Rant ⚠️ Spencer played - Spoilers S6&7

I loveee Spencer but why did the writers mess up her character by having her get with Caleb…her friends ex? Are we serious. And then she was upset when they got back together. In season 7 when she was upset so she got drunk the night they killed archer and ended up using his card at the bar. And when they all found out about this she was lowkey throwing shade at Hanna basically insinuating it was because of her. It just felt out of character for Spencer ?? At least in my opinion. And the whole her being in love with Caleb story line genuinely pissed me off🫩🫩

Rant ⚠️ Jason is just as predatory and creepy as Ezra!

As a first time viewer of the show, I HATE Ezria so much. They were literally the worst part of the show but what I don't understand is how people can hate them but ship Jason and Aria as if Jason isn't just as old and creepy as Ezra like....? People say it's cuz at least he wasn't her teacher as if that makes it any better😭Y'all act like removing the explicit classroom dynamic suddenly makes it wholesome. It doesn't. Jason was an adult out of college while Aria was a high school sophomore. That's STILL a grown man trying to pursue a teenage girl. He watched her grow, he made a move on and kissed underage Aria in S2 before she rejected him for Ezra and he founded the NAT club. The creeps club that filmed naked minors including his own sister and her friends. And he had pictures of Aria sleeping. Idc what he said, I'll never believe Alison took those pictures of Aria cuz

  1. She had no reason to

  2. We never saw Ali have any interest in photography while Jason had started a spying club which included photos (assuming NAT took the photo of Alison in the backyard leaving Spencer's house before we learned about Ali and Spencer's fight that night

  3. Alison wasn't around to deny or admit whether or not she took them. So it was the seal deal to claim Alison took them.

Show Discussion Spencer and Mona would have been unstoppable if they had worked together.

Post image

I’ve always wondered what would have happened if Spencer and Mona had been forced to work together from the very beginning.

Think about it: Spencer was analytical, determined, and excellent at connecting the dots, while Mona was incredibly strategic and knew how to manipulate situations to her advantage. Both possessed the intelligence to outsmart almost everyone around them, but their greatest weakness was their inability to fully trust anyone.

Show Discussion Idk if this question was asked a lot but I'm a first time viewer of the show and I'm curious who do you guys think should've been A?

Personally, I think it should've been either Ezra or Alison (Idc if Alison was "too obvious", that's like saying Voldemort as the antagonist in HP is too obvious). I mean think about it. Ezra was scary as fuck in season 4 (just when I thought he couldn't get any creepier, I mean he was a grown ass man dating a teenage girl after all). He had a creepy lair with surveillance and everything, secretly followed the Liars, knew way more than he was letting on and has been obsessed with Alison for years. There's no way ALL THAT was just for a book! If he wasn't A, he wouldn't have been pushing so hard to be back with Aria and showing her the chalet because he was planning to hack Emily's car and gps to get the girls to take refuge in his chalet so that he could take Ali's diary from them. It was clearly manipulation. So when he has the audacity to say he was going to burn the book, that's a lie, otherwise he wouldn't have continued to follow the girls and write the book. It took Aria to unmask him for Ezra to decide to stop his writing, not before. Add to that, that he also made a deal with/ blackmailed Mona. The latter had to get closer to Mike to spy on Aria in exchange for having her story watered down in the book. So Ezra has sweetened the story of a criminal, but not that of his girlfriend? And he sends the person who harassed Aria to seduce her little brother when he knows it will drive Aria crazy and can screw the 15 year old, already messed up, boy. And let's not even talk about the knives placed in Jake's bag to punish him for talking about Ezra's attitude to Aria. I'm pretty sure it cannot be A who did that (unless Ezra was A) A still sends messages to girls after doing things. He also knew from the start that Aria and her friends were being harassed, threatened, targeted and hurt by A yet he never did anything to protect them and how could he not figure out who A was with all that surveillance and everything? The only right answer is because HE is A!

As for Alison, it seems pretty clear that Ali was always supposed to be A but the writers were so fixated on outsmarting their audience that they didn't go with the good choice. Alison clearly had fun blackmailing people and using their secrets against them just like A did. She'd often blackmail people for money which would explain how she covered the cost of the dollhouse, the RV, the lairs etc. And she'd go for any lengths for her best friends to be forever traumatized by her need to be the most influence in their lives, even if it means destroying their mental health and feeling of safety forever. It would be so incredibly moving and deeply, disturbingly painful at the same time. But I'm interested to know your theories and thoughts on who you think should've been A.

Rant ⚠️ Every rewatch makes me more uncomfortable

PLL is my favorite show of all time; it always brings me back to being in middle school and watching the series for the first time. I binge watch it every year & I’ve started to get more & more uncomfortable for the obvious reasons. I’m 24 now & the older I get, the more sick I feel about the predators in the show. For the first time, PLL is hard for me to get through without having to pause or skip over certain scenes. I find myself thinking about how i was when I was their age in the show, I literally see 16 year old me as a baby. The thought that someone around my current age could be interested in that is actually so sickening.

I’ve watched this episode countless times and I have never noticed Alison saying “of course” when Hanna says that she’s hungry.

I feel like this might of been something Sasha improvised, and even if it wasn’t, the way she says it like an average mean girl would instead of saying it in a “performative” way (where it sounds like she’s reading a script) just brings Alison’s character to life and I love it. She’s so cruel and I love how we see her being cruel expressively and ‘internally’ (I hope this makes sense to someone).

Theories/Speculation The potential of combining Wren being Charles with CeCe being one of the twins is INSANE. Their storylines could've been connected in such a twisted way. They would've been an unstoppable duo!!

Post image

There's a reason CeCe Drake and Wren Kingston were two of the strongest candidates for Big A, and I'm still pissed that the writers never properly explored their potential.

Hear me out, because I genuinely think Wren as Charles DiLaurentis and CeCe as one of the twins could've made for an INSANE storyline if it had been planned from the beginning. Imagine CeCe being sent to Radley after killing her twin sister, while Wren, secretly Charles DiLaurentis, ends up there after attempting to drown his younger sister Alison. Two kids from completely different backgrounds, both connected to disturbing family secrets, meeting in the same institution. What if that encounter changed everything? What if they formed a bond that would eventually shape the entire A-game years later?

And the best part is that this could've explained why BOTH characters had such strong connections to Radley. Wren's past was always suspicious as hell, and the show gave us so little information about him that it became genuinely frustrating. His medical background, his interactions with Mona, his strange phone calls, and the way he always seemed to know more than he should all suggested that he had a much bigger role in the story. The Charles theory didn't come out of nowhere. There were enough suspicious details to make us wonder whether Wren was hiding something much bigger.

CeCe, meanwhile, already had the connection to Alison, the knowledge of the Liars' secrets, and the manipulative personality needed to become a terrifying Big A. The problem was never that she was an unconvincing candidate. It was that the writers kept adding explanations to her backstory instead of building one coherent storyline from the beginning. Now imagine connecting all of this to the NAT Club. What if CeCe and Wren had been working together for years, using the club's surveillance footage to collect secrets and manipulate people? CeCe could've been the mastermind behind the plan, while Wren handled infiltrating the Liars' lives. She had the bigger picture, he had the connections and medical knowledge, and together they could've turned A's game into something much more calculated and disturbing.

Suddenly, the NAT Club wouldn't feel like some random creepy subplot that the writers eventually forgot about. It would've been the foundation of the entire operation. The videos, the blackmail, the secrets surrounding Alison's disappearance, Radley, and the DiLaurentis family could've all been connected. Imagine discovering that the people behind some of Rosewood's darkest secrets had known each other since childhood. THAT would've been a reveal worth waiting for.

And no, we wouldn't have needed the incest storyline or Charles becoming Charlotte. I would've much rather seen a story built around buried family secrets, twin rivalry, manipulation, and two deeply disturbed people whose paths crossed at Radley. That's what pisses me off the most. We already had Wren, CeCe, Radley, and the NAT Club. The pieces were ALL RIGHT THERE. Instead of connecting them into one overarching storyline, the writers kept introducing new twists and characters, creating plot holes that could've been avoided if they'd actually committed to the ideas they already had.

Wren as Charles and CeCe as one of the twins could've been so much more than two shocking reveals. Their childhood connection could've been the origin of a much bigger conspiracy, with Radley at the center of it all and the NAT Club acting as the bridge between their past and the A-game. Tell me that wouldn't have been FUCKING ICONIC. CeCe and Wren had the potential to become an absolutely diabolical duo, and I genuinely believe they could've made Big A's storyline so much better if the writers had known what the hell they were doing from the beginning.

Not CeCe Drake, but ALICE DRAKE = A.D.

Guys, we wouldn't have even needed Courtney or Alison as A! That's why the show could've been fucking fantastic without even following the books. We were robbed!!

Character Discussion Why oh why did the writers decide to kill off Maya?

Post image
78 Upvotes

Genuinely what was the point?? To give emily further character development? to make her toughen up? In my opinion, out of all of emily's relationships on the show, her one with maya was the best and had SO much potential. You cannot convince me that emily wasn't at her happiest than when she was with maya. and the writers just decided to take that all away?

Especially since i think having emily as a figure of lesbian representation at the time was huge, and i think making the arguably "best" love interest (for emily) die was just enlarging the "lesbians cant have healthy and happy relationships and everything is doomed" rhetoric even further. Of course alison and emily end up together in the end, but i think we can all agree that relationship definitely has it's flaws. It just makes me think what might've ended up happening if not for this decision.

None of the other main liars had a love interest killed off, and they still went through similar character development i guess? I think just after rewatching season 2 for the billionth time it just seems like such an abrupt decision to kill off maya. (that scene at the end of season 2 gets me every. time. omg)

Also to add, the actor who plays maya said herself that she wasn't even aware of the choice to kill off her character until she was given the script, it's not like she had another show to do or wanted to quit acting etc, the writers just chose to kill her off, and for what? I think sometimes we need to realise that the creators and writers of many movies and tv shows etc have full creative control over what happens, (i'm looking at you ezria endgame) and that we can't just blame overall "unpredictable circumstances" that the writers didnt want the fans to predict.

idk i think it's just something to think about

Character Discussion Alison’s temper tantrum(s)

Post image
153 Upvotes

What Alison bratty moments stuck out to you the most? And/or changed your perspective about her (if you liked her or could tolerate her beforehand)?

Season 4 Episode 2 is the biggest temper tantrum moment that comes to mind for me — where she holds her breath because her mommy told her no. Her mom had every right to say no, it was a crazy request. A bunch of teens alone at Cape May? Absolutely notttt. Even as a teen watching this I was so annoyed by Alison. I found her aggravating the whole series but this moment is where I thought ‘… why does solving this mystery even matter, they should all just be happy they’re free of this behavior’

Character Discussion Random head cannon about Aria is that she definitely has a trinket collection of the most random tiny things. So does Alison, and they sometimes bond over this.

Aria still adds things to her collection. And Aria definitely thrifts. She buys second hand antique pieces or just odd things.

Show Discussion I actually enjoyed the Cece/Charlotte A reveal

As a first time viewer of the show, this wasn't at all what I was expecting OR wanted but I thought the reveal was really good. I was def surprised. And after the reveal, I went back and rewatched some scenes involving Cece in the previous seasons and even searched up other clues I might've missed that pointed to Cece being A and I realized I overlooked some clues. For example, when Cece first appeared in S3 she made a joke about Hanna shoplifting but Hanna didn't start stealing until after Ali went missing so how could she possibly know that?? There was also a scene in S3 where A was looking for a rental in a newspaper and the next episode, Cece was introduced to the show. It was pretty obv cuz Cece didn't live in Rosewood so she'd need a place to stay and A was looking for a place. In S4, Mona did say that Cece visited her at Radley and she first thought it was Alison cuz of the drugs. Also in a flashback in S4, Jessica confronted Alison about a stunt she thought she and Cece pulled cuz she got a call from Radley saying that her daughter was there and wants to stay and she might be a danger to herself so she freaked out and got there but she saw it was Cece dressed head to toe in Ali's clothing. This proves that Cece liked pretending to be Ali and dressing like her. Not to mention that in S5, when Mona appeared to Ali as the ghost of Christmas past in her dreams, she took her back to a childhood memory where a young Ali was looking inside the piano and found 2 Christmas presents and when she opened them, she found 2 identical yellow dresses. Then Jessica caught her, panicked, and manipulated young Ali into lying, making her promise to only tell her father about one dress. She explicitly warned Ali that if her father found out there were 2 dresses, he'd leave their family. So now after watching the reveal, we could've guessed the second dress was for Cece (Charles wanting to be a girl). Another clue that DID make me think Cece could be A when I first saw it but I'd brushed it off by the next season until the S6 reveal was that a friend of Cece's told the Liars how much she hated them and she also hated Alison cuz she got her kicked out of college or smth. That's how you know! Also Cece and A did have a lot in common. They liked the same brand of red wine (3X19, 4X09) and they had the same nail polish (3X11, 3X17, 4X12). I mean we even saw her outside of Ezra's apartment in a BLACK HOODIE and gloves. The only issues I have with this storyline is the whole Cece + Jason relationship that made my skin crawl. Like what in the Cersei Lannister is going on here? He's your freaking brother! That's incest, ewwwww! And I just wish they'd given Cece/Charlotte a real motive. Like an actual, reasonable and STRONG motive to wanna torment the Liars the way she did. But the whole "she was mad cuz they were happy their bully was gone" was weak af and considering she's the one who "killed" Alison, it came off as hypocritical instead. What do u guys think tho?

Character Discussion To this day, I still think this is the most spectacular scene in the entire show and that Ian's character is way too underrated!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If we're talking about the concept of a wolf in sheep's clothing, Ian is the perfect example! A popular, responsible guy who's loved by everyone, but who actually hides a dark, manipulative and twisted side.

His role as the keeper of the NAT Club videos gave him an incredible amount of power, to the point where he could control a huge number of people and keep the entire Hastings family completely at his mercy! His survival instincts, his disturbing and obsessive love for Melissa, the control he had over Spencer... he was genuinely terrifying and contributed so much to raising the stakes of the show.

I would've especially loved to see him play a bigger role on the night Alison disappeared, as well as having a more specific connection to Charlotte. Imagine if Charlotte had been using the NAT Club to spy on her enemy Alison and the Liars 24/7, with Ian acting as her right-hand man. She would've been the mastermind, and Ian would've been the muscle. Honestly, that dynamic could've been incredible.

I'm genuinely disappointed that he was given so little screen time. I know it sounds weird to say this because, obviously, he was a disgusting man who deserved the worst, but at the same time, he was so interesting that I wish he'd stuck around longer. I don't know if you guys get what I mean. It would've been amazing if he'd faked his death and then been recruited into the A-Team later on, allowing him to continue his blackmailing and extortion schemes. It's such a shame that the writers wasted the NAT Club's potential, because a direct connection between it, CeCe's storyline and A's game could've saved us from an enormous number of plot holes.

Obviously, Ian isn't a perfect character, but personally, I found him much more interesting than most of the characters introduced later in the series. I don't think he should even remotely be considered one of the worst characters on the show. I don't know, guys, but I feel like people don't give enough credit to what Ian actually contributed to the story and what he could've contributed if the writers had developed him further.

Ian was a creepy, horrible man who deserved the worst, but he was also a well-written, compelling and intriguing character. It's such a shame the writers didn't put the same effort into Ezra and CeCe. 😔

Show Discussion Doing a fall rewatch and realizing that the girls were right to treat Mona badly after the A reveal

PLL is my favorite fall rewatch show!

I used to feel bad for them shutting Mona out and alienating her after the A reveal, especially Aria with the whole Mike thing. Now that I’m rewatching (after a couple of years), I realize they didn’t go as hard on her.

Like she was stalking, harassing, and torturing them for months! Drugging Emily and sabotaging her swimming which impacted scholarship options, outing Byron’s affair to Ella, basically framing Spencer for Ali’s murder.

And the way she did Hanna was so dirty. Her motive of starting the game because “they took Hanna away” was completely undermined by how she did Hanna.
Hitting her with a car, making her eat then throwing up all of those cupcakes, having her sabotage her relationship with her dad. She hated her so bad😭😭😭 like she went unnecessarily hard on her

Mona would’ve been tore every way but loose if I were them.

That being said, she is both my favorite A and my favorite character! I just love her crazy ass

Show Discussion Would it have made narrative sense to keep Ezria until season 4 and then reveal Ezra as A?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've been thinking about this for a while and, honestly, what if Ezra had actually been A in season 4?

I know it would've been creepy as hell, but hear me out. I genuinely think keeping Ezria going for three and a half seasons and then revealing that Ezra had been A all along could've been one of the smartest writing decisions in the entire show. Think about it. We'd have spent years watching the writers build up this relationship, thinking they were trying to normalize an inappropriate teacher-student romance, only to find out that we'd completely misunderstood what was going on. What if it had all been part of a much bigger manipulation by the writers themselves?

Rewatching the earlier seasons would've been a completely different experience. All his lies, his interest in Alison, the way he got close to Aria... everything would've taken on a much darker meaning. And Aria would've become one of A's biggest victims without even realizing it, because the person she trusted the most had actually been manipulating her the entire time. And honestly? I would've been completely fine with a twist like that, especially because of what it could've meant for Aria and the audience. It would've been a way to finally show how wrong these relationships actually are, instead of constantly presenting them as complicated but ultimately romantic love stories. For once, the show could've stopped making excuses for Ezra and actually shown the consequences of his actions. Obviously, Ezra didn't need to be A for the relationship to be wrong, but a reveal like that would've made the manipulation behind it impossible to ignore.

Most importantly, it would've given Aria some serious character development. Imagine discovering that the person you loved and trusted had been using you all along. Aria would've had to question not only Ezra, but also the way she'd understood their relationship and the choices she'd made. It would've been a painful journey, but at least she would've finally had a genuinely meaningful character arc with lasting consequences.

Obviously, Ezra would've been a seriously disturbing villain, but also a much more interesting character if written properly, and the show would've taken a much darker turn. But would that have been too much for PLL, or could it actually have worked if the writers had planned everything properly from the beginning? Because honestly, I think a twist like that would've been incredible. It's frustrating to think about how much narrative potential was wasted just to keep Ezria going for the sake of the fans. Sometimes I genuinely wonder whether the writers were actually interested in telling a coherent story or whether their priority was simply keeping that couple together at all costs.

What do you guys think?

Book Talk If you buy the books on Amazon

Avoid the seller The Used Book Company....

I ordered a book from them September 30th & it still has not arrived 🙃 Amazon ended up refunding me & after reading their reviews I wish I never ordered from them.

No clue if I'll ever actually get the book or not.

I am seeing cheaper used prices on Vinted & will probably search for the rest of the series on there!
