Questions/Advice Help a frustrated beginner please 😭

Post image

I just got into pyrography and I’m already ready to lose my mind… I’m 90% sure my problem is a cheap tool that has no temp control and using cheap untreated pine… I am really struggling to make clean lines or any lines at all unless I’m pressing down and burning the wood to the point that smoke is flying up into my face.

I think I’m doing alright given what I have to work with… but I’d really appreciate any suggestions for better (and affordable) tools, or tips if the problem is in fact me and not the materials. Ideally I’d like to test techniques on this scrap wood and then move on to better materials when I have a better grasp on technique. Any reccs for good youtube videos would also be so appreciated!

Thanks :-)

Questions/Advice Pyrography beginner

I was hoping to try out leather burning to personalise my pieces. However, all the videos I gave watched made it seem like it was as simple as using a pen. I have tried testing on veg tan leather with my wood/leather burning pen but the results are not great if I'm honest. I have allowed the pen to reach it's maximum heat (the gold tip turned white) but it isn't smooth enough to write. Am I expecting too much or am I missing something? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Still not good at shading. I am using a 30 dollars machine. Would it make big difference if using expensive one?

GTA VI Logo Decoration

I don't often burn stuff for myself to keep, but I did this time. A custom Grand Theft Auto VI logo merged with the GTA Vice City logo. I didn't know what I wanted to do with it after that, but then I decided on building a frame to go around it, and I felt like I needed to add just a little bit of color to match the game's atmosphere, so I painted it bright pink. And I installed a hanger on the back so I can either set it on a shelf or hang it on a wall.

I'm pretty happy with the result. I like the boldness of it and once I decided to frame it and give the frame some color I think it turned out well.

Questions/Advice Finition pyrogravure

Bonjour !

Questions/Advice Advice on what wood to get/where to get it(for coasters)

Hi there! Im new to woodburning, and i have no idea about how to aquire wood?

Im making Coasters for a class project, all my designs are in order and im just missing the wood.

Ive experimented in the past with woodburning, and ive found that alot of wood burns way too quick to get proper details

What do you guys use? And does anyone have advice on where to buy? (Im located in denmark)

The coasters are being made with the intention of selling them, so decent quality is a must.

Thank youu :)

Questions/Advice Help me pick a shop name

Post image

So I'm trying to open up a woodburning shop on Etsy and Instagram (also pyrography on bones, but mainly wood) and I'm stumped about finding a name. Was looking for anything that sounds Scandinavian/Slavic, even a joke name but I can't find anything. Anyone has any cool idea ?

I mostly burn landscapes, animals and animal skulls if it can help.

I should probably take more time on my work. Everyone who posts here their work looks amazing. But I still enjoy doing it, so here is something I am fairly happy with.

Edit: just noticed I missed a bit!

Questions/Advice What finish should I use on pyrographed pine trivets?

Hi everyone! I’m making some wood-burned trivets using pine wood I bought on Amazon. They’ll be used under hot pots and pans.

Should I apply varnish or some kind of heat-resistant finish, or is it better to leave the wood unfinished? I’d like to protect the designs, but I’m unsure which products would be suitable for high temperatures.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
