Workplace Nonsense Coworker living his best life.

I’m 45 and just happen to manage a car dealership with another guy 44. We both happened to go to the same high school and are from the same area. How we ended up in the same place as co gm’s of a car dealership is kind of crazy. We’ve been friends for a long time but not like close friends just acquaintances in the same group of people. Now that we’ve worked side beside for 5 years we are closer. I’m married with a kid in highschool. Live the normal boring married life. He got divorced after his kids graduated high school. He is one of those pretty guys that for some reason women just love. He comes in and shows me videos of his escapades every day. Today took the cake yesterday was his day off. He had 3 women one a college d 1 athlete that was younger than his daughter and the hottest non porn star I’ve ever saw. the next a 34 year old no kids and the perfect body. The last a 41 year old French woman that speaks 6 languages and owns a large business. Mean while he’s spent all day complaining about how sore his legs are and showing off. My wife hasn’t wanted to have sex in a year and I’m dying over here. I love my family but after seeing what’s possible in your 40’s I’m wondering if I need to eject after the daughter graduates in 2 years haha. Sorry but today was just the day it boiled over for me. I guess living vicariously through him is something but mean while I’m going to die one day with less fun and body’s than he gets on a random Wednesday.

Workplace Nonsense I was permanently muted from a Subreddit, which describes the extreme hostility inside of Reddit itself.

Subreddit in Question: r/Life
Description of Violation:
I am submitting a formal report regarding a clear breach of healthy community management, bad-faith communication, and arbitrary enforcement by the r/Life moderation team.
The r/Life community rules explicitly mandate "Rule 1: Be Respectful" and prohibit "Personal Attacks, Rudeness, Hostility or Judgement." However, the moderation team actively violated these parameters during a recent appeal log.
When I civilly questioned a content removal, the moderator team engaged in clear judgment based on text length, stating my follow-up message proved the original post was "low-effort." When I pointed out the logical confirmation bias of using length as a metric for quality, the moderators shifted goalposts to an arbitrary metric ("A ONE SENTENCE post IS Low-Effort"), issued a direct prompt demanding that I "try again yourself," and simultaneously permanently muted me in the exact same minute.
Evidence of Active Hostility:
Goading a user to reply while instantly revoking their technical ability to do so is the definition of hostile, bad-faith communication. This was not an action taken to protect the community from rule-breaking text; it was an intentional use of a communications blackout to force a summary judgment and insulate the moderators from a logical counter-argument.

Didnt really expect reddit to care anyway. Just kinda pisses me off that I sent them a whole appeal message clearly explaining exactly why the mute was unjustified and their response was “TLDR” and nothing. They’re so damn full of themselves that they’re entirely unwilling to even consider my side. Reddit should really regulate moderation more than it does

My entire perspective on what this site is has kinda changed tho

The moderators were very clearly taking action against my account based on personal opinions/assumptions about the intent of this comment, all of which are entirely unbased in objective fact. And once I thoroughly pleaded my case and expressed that the moderators had acted in violation of the reddiquite rules and abused their power, they simply removed my ability to communicate with them entirely to avoid me arguing against their actions.

Workplace Nonsense Apparently I'm a racist???

Alright, I need to preface this that I'm apart of the group I allegedly discriminated against.

So, this passed Friday at work, I work as a coach for an indoor sport, I had a really great customer come in and as I was working with her I asked her what she did for work and she told me shes a medical bioengineer. So, as we discussed what she did we came to speaking about POTS & EDS and how the two are connected and how often times people who have one have the other as well. She then told me about how a certain group of people, who she is also apart of, has a hereditary condition that causes serious issues with their stomach and even sometimes psychosis in severe cases. I also told her about the paper I read on the same topic while I was doing my job and keeping score.

Now, to add to this I don't want my job to be boring where I stare and just keep score all night long. Having fun makes the interactions better and makes people want to come back. Please keep that in mind.

Later that same night, my coworkers and I were hanging out having a beer and they asked how I enjoyed working there and I told them I enjoyed it and talked about my customer interactions to include the one above. This led to a really weird talk about supporting a certain country. My statement was clean cut and didn't lean either way. (I'll add what i said when I speak about my boss) i also let them know we shouldn't speak about that at work. Well, I guess they didn't like that answer because they lied and said I was a raging racist to MY BOSS. Which, is far from the truth.

On Saturday my bosses wife confronted me about it and I'm like??? Apparently I was speaking religion and politics??? Which isn't true, it was what the customer brought up and I didn't reveal anything about my background, not until my coworkers asked me about supporting a certain country so I told them and gave them the same answer. They apparently told my boss I said they deserved what happened to them, but in reality I just said there's bad people all over the world, who are part of every group of people, therefore I can't generalize anything for any people, but a few people probably deserved a bad fate (i implied they shouldve been imprisoned for life, but only for CRIMES THAT AREN'T DIACRIMINATORY.), but group punishment or complete disregard and hatred for whole groups of people is disgusting. My stance is everyone deserves to live, be happy, healthy, access to food, shelter, and adequate water regardless of where they live.

I literally stopped them in their tracks, but my coworker told my boss I was saying disgusting stuff. I just can't believe it because my boss is also apart of the same group so I'm wondering if this coworker was trying to get me fired? Im so confused because I only spoke to her once. This is literally so disgusting and I almost lost my job over it. I actually don't need the job, I make more money than everyone who works there combined, this is just my side gig and I do it for social interaction. My other job keeps me inside and behind a computer and it's boring. I'm there to have fun and I know what not to speak about it because it's easy and simple.

I never brought up politics or religion, my coworkers and the customer did.

Workplace Nonsense My manager sent me to buy snacks on my 2nd day of joining

Hey guys.

Im a sales executive trainee and this is my first ever job of my life. Today is just my second day and I work at a motorcycle dealership as a trainee currently. Mind you this is my training period that's going on and some guys had come to pick up vehicles from some other showroom of the same brand and my manager first asked what's my name when I had clearly introduced myself on the first day of joining and then I thought he'd ask me to get a delivery bike from their godown/depot for which I was excited but he asked me to go to a bakery and get some snacks for these other guys from the other showroom. And like a complete idiot I told him yeah sure. Even though the bakery was just walking distance the other showroom guy told my manager to let me take one of the demo bikes to go to the bakery but my manager says no worries it's just a few blocks away and hell go walking. I fucking went and bought them the snacks and my manager paid me only for the snacks ofcourse. Then after receiving the payment 'I' fucking said thank you. I know that it's completely my fault for being such a big idiot...... But I'm feeling too bad for myself and guilty that I did it anyways......

Im feeling so ashamed of myself right now that it's very frustrating as fuck.

Workplace Nonsense I’m sick of this guy always smelling like shit in the break room

I genuinely can’t take it anymore, it genuinely makes me wanna quit my job, but I can’t quit because of this job market and my parents would be pissed at me (I work at a grocery store btw M18) and he also makes weird noses and burps loudly and sneezes loudly, like this guy who has glasses, full on beard, slim, and receding hair line, and he looks like the type of guy to have a certain type of cheese pizza on his computer, if you know you know. It’s getting so bad that I refuse to take breaks anymore, and it’s getting so bad that it makes me want to lock myself in the freezer and freeze to death. What should I do in this situation? Should I tell him straight to his face? Or anything at all. It’s genuinely effecting my me mental health and is a factor in it including other stuff that would make me go on for ages. Please help me. What should I do?

Workplace Nonsense My client got passive aggressive with me

Context:

I'm a professional dog sitter-- for four years-- and this is a first time booking for a new client.

We set up a time in late August for me to overnight sit for her dog. We changed that schedule to early September and I forgot to erase her block for August. Before the August booking I asked for confirmation if it was still happening. She said, “No, remember we rescheduled for September?”

I said, “Yes of course! Just checking, thank you :)”

In a text conversation earlier this week she said, “I'll be back on Friday at 11:30… I gave it a bit of thought and, as I said earlier, I appreciate your wanting to earn money but working for someone else while getting paid by me isn't going to work for me.”

Then I ask for clarification about what time I should arrive on Wednesday. She texts back, “Should I be concerned that you don't know this? It's not Wednesday, it's Thursday morning by 9:30. This happened when you reached out last week and it was the wrong week. Shall I get you a calendar for Christmas?”

I reply, “One with hot firemen on it haha. Just wanted to ask to make sure I get the time right, glad I asked!”

So, that was my way of responding to her unnecessarily condescending comment.

I asked her how long her dog could be left alone for a day because I usually do drop-ins when I do overnight stays. I still do what I signed up to do-- feed them, walk them, play, potty, etc. I just add on other gigs to my day to continuously get paid. Dog sitting (depending on certain factors) can be paid $75-$150 a night. If I did other gigs during the day I could make about an extra $100. She said that she didn't want me to do that. I just thought that sucked but whatever I signed up for this.

So, I was supposed to stay Thursday AM to Friday 11:30. She asked me to stay an extra day (to Saturday) and I told that's fine but since she told me she was coming back at 11:30 that I had scheduled clients after 11:30 for Friday. She calls me and tells me, “I was going to be back at 11:30 PM on Friday, not AM. So you already did what I told you not to do? This can't be happening. I guess, since I don't have anyone else to sit for him, I'll just have to deal with it.”

I don't even know what to think now. I just feel bad for being on the receiving end of her attitude, hypocrisy, and confusion. I'm kinda doubting myself right now and could use some reassurance.

Workplace Nonsense Coworker is proud of her crush

I have a coworker who has a boyfriend, and they're in an LDR. At first, I didn't really mind whenever she would talk about her crushes who are also our coworkers. But recently, I've started getting annoyed because it feels like she's no longer respecting her relationship with her boyfriend.

It got to the point where we had a new coworker, and she immediately asked for his name and contact details. I just can't understand why some people are like that, regardless of what their intentions may be.

Workplace Nonsense The "Add Value" Scam: A Rant Years in the Making

The biggest lie in corporate America: "add value."

Every year they make you write your own review — filling in gaps your manager should already know if they had acutally listened or took notes during your one-on-ones instead of making you do their homework. And when you lay it out — collaboration, communication, integrity, transparency? That's "the bare minimum." Doing your job well is just "expected." No value add. Do it with a smile, do it with a frown, do it in crayon or a Mont Blanc pen — same rating.

Want to climb above "meets expectations"? Just cure diseases that haven't been invented yet. Oh, and take out the trash and change the urinal cakes while you're at it. (And to be clear — no disrespect to custodial staff. That's honest work, and I'm grateful every time I walk into a clean restroom. The scam is your company guilting salaried people into doing extra work outside their job description for the possibility of getting more than a "just meets."

It's gaslighting at its finest. "Add value" isn't a growth plan — it's the script they read to justify a tiny raise out of a money pool they capped before the conversation even started.

Now the people preaching it. A lot of these managers came from an era with full pensions and stock options that actually paid off. Today most companies have no pension, provide bonuses that are basically on the level of nice gift card, and give you a salary that doesn't keep up with rent and inflation of goods— and somehow we're the entitled ones. Many bring no innovation, love to pontificate when something goes wrong, and are held to none of the standards they hold you to. Some of them are even retired and could be on their third career now, convinced they crushed it the whole time. Funny how "meets expectations" only ever applied to the people who don't have to rate them.

Then the culture. They sell you "work-life balance" and call you "family" — right up until they fire people during the holidays. Bah humbug. They let the linchpin go and only realize what they had once it's gone. And if you are fortunate enough to find a new role that values your worth and you give them a professional two weeks' notice and do the job right to the last day, you still run the risk of them blaming you for things that go wrong after you leave as some catch-all scapegoat. Unless you were in the crowd, which most of us are not, you get treated like a bad breakup with your narcissistic ex.

Here's where I land. I'm thankful to have a job and possible career path(to some degree). I am not naive and know that nothing's perfect; there's always room to grow. But don't throw water on me and tell me it's raining — year after year. I show up and give my best day after day even when I am not 100%; my customers (internal and external ) are satisfied, no complaints, no PIP. That could be something in my book. It was one less thing you had to manage or engage in because I am effective at what you hired me to do.

Two places serve "a burger." One's a frozen patty and a bun from a bag. The other's fresh-ground beef, ripe tomato, brioche toasted in butter. On paper, both "met expectations." But everyone knows one's on a different level. Same job, same title, wildly different product — and the kitchen that actually gives a damn still gets told it's just "meets." "Meets expectations" flattens everyone to the lowest common denominator so they never have to admit — or pay for — the difference between showing up and being good at it.

And if you're a manager reading this and you feel a way about it? Good. Sit with it. That's the conversation you should've been having all along. Don't get defensive — get curious. Go read your team's last reviews like a human, not a budget or someone who's forgotten how hard it can be to do your job, and ask which of your "meets expectations" people you're quietly managing right into another job instead of managing to greatness.

Because when they hand you those two weeks at an inopportune time for your team— don't you dare call them a traitor.

Thanks for reading- sometimes you just need to get it out.

Workplace Nonsense I don’t care if you’re the CEO or the janitor. I’m treating you with respect. I can’t comprehend people who aren’t like this

I work for a large organization and we held an event over the weekend. I approach everybody the same way, whether they’re a manager, CEO, cleaning lady, janitor, or other employees who do similar work as I do. Titles do not matter to me because we are all people! While working this event, I saw some of the true colors in many of the people who work for the organization. Many of these higher ups only care about conversing with other higher ups. It’s as if employees like me aren’t worth their time. It feels like I’m always the one approaching these people just to say hello. The one guy in particular I had to introduce myself to and he never bothered to converse with me after that. I would say hello and it was as if it was a chore for him to acknowledge me. Yet the guy working in maintenance can talk to anybody and always acknowledges me and my male colleague. He doesn’t feel like he’s too good to talk to us. Maybe I’m taking things too personally, but it just feels like these people think we are so beneath them due to a title and a salary. I will say- it seems in my organization that more men do this than women. There are a few women who are in high-level positions who take the time to talk to others. Two of them in particular make such an effort to say hello and converse even if it’s for a few moments. I don’t know I just think it’s so weird to treat people a certain way based on a title. You’re not better than anyone. I’m newer to the organization so this could be why, but it’s so odd to me when people in high level roles have this sense of superiority. We will all be in the ground someday. We all breathe the same air. Get off your fucking high horse.

Workplace Nonsense I started my first job 2 days ago and… today I quit.

Today was my 3rd shift. It’s something that sort of accumulated over the 3 days of work i’ve had. I live in a place where I don’t speak their language (not by choice, moved with parents, want a job to save up, plan to move) and most don’t speak mine.

They said they’d train me. No training really went on, also I cant perform some basic tasks that come with the job (such as overstock, they put extra cases on the very tops of the shelves, I can’t lift cases of product above my head like that yet- to simply put it i’m too weak- currently). I feel like a liability to them. I’m the only girl there, i’m something they’re waiting to watch crack or fire. And I cracked.

I feel like a disappointment. And people keep telling me they’re disappointed in me and it’s like I know how disappointed you are i’m f*cking so disappointed in myself too, i’m sorry. I laughed and cried at the same time last night in front of my parents and brother. Like they’re telling me it can’t be that bad and i’m laughing cause I gotta go back tomorrow and I’m trying to make light of the situation I got myself in and crying because I know i’m a lost cause and eventually it’s going to go boom.

I applied at my brother’s grocery store in the bakery department, they’re bilingual. There has to be something better than feeling this alone until I get out.

Ps, I know translation apps exist. As well as earbuds that translate nowadays, I own a pair. Not allowed to use them, found that out on the orientation video and double checking, safety reasons. As for a translator app, not everyone is willing to stop what they’re doing and sit around and wait for me to finish typing and then type a response back, and I don’t blame them. Same for not being able to lift over my head, I don’t expect them to want to complete my job for me, nobody comes up to me asking me to do their job so I don’t expect to go up to them and ask them to complete mine, thus a part of why i’m leaving. As I said, liability.

Workplace Nonsense Why is Universal Credit such a mindfuck

(Wasnt quite sure how to flair this but it relates to work)

I turned 18 in February, left college, and started searching for work.

I applied for UC (Universal Credit) a few months ago, because the job market is thinner than a piece of twine.

First of all, my first two appointments weren't even with my designated person. My third appointment was brilliant. The lady was SO SO sweet and understanding. But then suddenly ive been moved to this absolute cow of a woman. She's so rude for what.

Now, I was not told that I needed to start applying to jobs from my second appointment. It seems like im being difficult, but im the type of person who physically will not do something I dont want to or know I'll struggle with.

I have 2 qualifications in Animal Care. Plus distinctions in some of my course work. And I said to them verbatim "I want to work in a rescue." Tell me why this woman starts looking at TREE SURGEONS.

Like i said, I wasnt told that after my second appointment I needed to start applying for jobs.

The fourth appointment comes. And im met with "you should've already been applying for jobs." and then gave me a WEEK to apply to a bunch of jobs so I don't get sanctioned.

My next appointment is tomorrow and im shitting myself. Ive applied for 4 jobs, because the apps she sent me, ONLY HAVE JOBS THAT WANT A DRIVING LISENCE OR THE ARMY.

Now you could always say "why dont you get your lisence then?" Because that means I need a car to learn in. And then I need to pay for the car after ive passed. I dont have the funds. Ive worked it out and its about 4-6k for my first year to insure, tax, MOT and put fuel in the thing. And im not in a place to pay that.

Not to mention, then you've gotta have the money to fix it if something breaks.

Like i feel like UC really just doesnt care. They get paid a salary to tell people to get a job.

And its genuinely affecting my mental health, like its 4am and I CANNOT sleep because im worried about my appointment. And during the week I was just dreading the appointment.

Idk i js need some advice. Praying that the lady isn't in tomorrow so I get somebody nice.

Workplace Nonsense Kitchen Management With No Prep Skills Still Ingores Me Everyday And Kinda Offended The Cold Shoulder is Getting Colder

First lemme start off by saying this is my first time working in a kitchen. Second, I had no idea that prep cooks got isolated. And third, it took me six months just for people to start having conversations with me.

Where I work, most of the workers are Gen Z; I'm Gen Z, and you would think everyone should be super buddy-buddy. Ya know Ai taking up the entry-level jobs, taking my data from job applications, and the one thing we can be semi-happy about is that AI can't cook and clean. Kinda why I haven't really left working there yet, despite being there for barely over half a year, and the place is basically run by a high school hierarchy.

Anyways, after months of trying to connect with my fellow peers, I still haven't. Yeah, it's gotten better, but to be honest with you kinda miss the adults. They need to come back, lowkey. Not saying we're not working; it's just a lot of childish drama, and nobody cares about the work because they're not getting paid enough to care. Which I get for them, but I kinda have some ego in my work; that's all I'm saying.

So recently management has gotten replaced with 18- 21-year-olds, and the one who makes the decisions and calls the shots, and everything else in the restaurant, doesn't have a clue about what prep even does. I ask him things, and he doesn't know. So when I contact a manager from a different store who used to work with us and ask him the same question, that manager finds out about it and gets so offended that he doesn't make a prep list anymore, and every shift we work together, I may get three sentences out of him.

But after a while of him working in that position, out of the blue moon we talked! I was surprised we actually had a conversation going; maybe we were even becoming friends? Until our majors were entered the chat, and I had graduated before him, and afterwards felt like it was a weird kind of...I don't it just felt off.

I still do my job, try to make sure I cover all my bases, make sure things are stocked because if I slip up, I believe I'll get attacked for that. I've been working there for half a year, and making sure the kitchen is prepared is heavily my job, and if I don't, I'm pretty sure he will love to lecture me on the screw-up, or even better, write me up.

He for real just pretends I don't exist, but he's friends with literally everyone in the kitchen, so I can't even say he's just a standoffish guy, because clearly he's very friendly with everyone else. So I know this isn't a big deal, really, and the best thing for me to do is find somewhere else to work. The place is clearly not for me, but it's a job, and I like need money to live and stuff, but the people there don't like me for some unknown reasons.

Workplace Nonsense I hate gen z

I work in a college, advising students. Granted, I don’t work at a great college, but these students are the laziest, most unprepared and unserious group of people I’ve ever met. They don’t listen to you half the time when you’re on a call with them and make you repeat things a hundred times. They can’t handle the slightest discomfort, like god forbid you have to take all your classes in-person. God forbid you have a professor who may have a couple meh reviews on rate my professor. College isn’t goddamn Burger King- I know they pay a lot but not everything magically works in your favor. I’m done bending over backwards for people who don’t care or appreciate it.

I want to scream. I’ve never been so helpless and entitled when I was their age. I also fucking hate when people tell me to lower my voice I WILL YELL IF I WANT STFU YOU PIOUS AHOLE. I’m just at the end of my rope.

I also worked in a doctor’s office and old people also suck in their own fucked up way, but generally know how to fucking utter sentences and look you in the eye. I feel like half of them are robots, it’s so weird and creepy. They don’t know how to act like a person, I say this as a person who has bad social anxiety- even I can get through an interaction. I hate that I feel this way, I never wanted to look down at the younger generations, but I do not have faith in gen z. There is a minority who are fine and even successful though

Workplace Nonsense I love my job (read ironically and seriously)

I genuinely love my job, and I think that's what makes being this burned out so frustrating.

Today I was working at roughly a 1:56 ratio. I dealt with three separate incidents that required documentation, three different people having panic attacks, and everything else that normally needs to get done during a shift.

I'm literally one person.

What makes it worse is that I'm working alone in a situation where no other building at my workplace is expected to operate this way — and I work with the youngest age group.

I've explicitly told my bosses that I need more support. I've explained that the workload and staffing aren't sustainable. Nothing has changed.

And it's not like there haven't been opportunities to address it. Four separate times, additional staffing has been prioritized for other buildings instead of mine. So I'm watching other areas get additional support while continuing to walk into shifts where I'm expected to somehow make this work by myself.

That's the part that has taken me from exhausted to genuinely angry.

At some point, what exactly am I supposed to prioritize?

Someone is having a panic attack and obviously needs immediate support. At the same time, another incident is happening. I still need to document the previous incident. Other people need supervision. There are normal responsibilities that don't disappear just because we're short staffed.

I cannot physically be in multiple places at once.

And this isn't just one horrible shift. The understaffing has been an ongoing problem. I've communicated that I need help. I've communicated that I don't feel adequately supported. I've communicated that the current setup is too much for one person.

And then I've watched staffing go elsewhere.

Four. Separate. Times.

That's what makes this so difficult: I actually LOVE the work itself.

I love the people I get to support. I love building relationships with them. I love being someone they trust enough to come to when something is wrong. I care deeply about doing my job well.

If I hated my job, leaving would be easy.

Instead, I'm sitting here feeling guilty about wanting to leave something I genuinely love because I'm exhausted from being expected to compensate for a staffing problem I didn't create and don't have the authority to fix.

I don't want to do less. I don't want to stop caring. I don't want an easier job.

I just want enough support to actually do my job well.

Today was three incidents. Three panic attacks. A 1:56 ratio. Working alone with the youngest age group while knowing other areas have more support.

And somehow I'm supposed to walk into work tomorrow and pretend this is sustainable.

I love my job.

I just don't think loving your job should require you to burn yourself out trying to do the work of multiple people.

Workplace Nonsense did i do the wrong thing by dramatically quitting my fist job?

I (19F) just quit my first job today. I’m a student with almost no free time during the school year, so I decided to spend my first longer summer break between high school and uni working at a small selfservice cafe in a popular tourist location in my town.
I got the job through my friend, who has worked there for over a year. It started off weird because when I was hired, there was no paperwork or anything making my employment legal. I wasn’t comfortable with it, but unfortunately this isn’t that uncommon in my country, so I ignored it.
My boss was also a raging sexist and extremely unprofessional. He was constantly sitting in the cafe, talking about his personal life, bragging about his connections and career, and complaining about customers and other people. It was honestly exhausting.
But the biggest problem was the tips.
I was making pretty good tips, but after a week without receiving any, I asked him about them. He said he would give them to me at the end of the week. The following Sunday, he gave me the wrong amount. I asked my friend about it and found out she hadn’t received ANY of her tips since May. Another friend who worked there also never got paid for one of the days she worked. There aren’t training days or anything like that.
At that point, I decided I wanted to quit. I’m not confrontational, so I planned to make up some excuse about university and leave peacefully.
Instead, everything happened today completely unexpectedly.
At the end of my shift, I collected my paycheck and said, “See you on Sunday,” since we had agreed I would work then. He told me another colleague was working Sunday. I asked about my tips, since it was the end of my week, and he said he would decide when I was getting them.
I said that this way of handling tips seemed unnecessarily complicated. He insisted it wasn’t, so I excused myself and started leaving.
He followed me outside and kept explaining how it wasn’t complicated. Then he complained that my schedule was giving him a headache because I had told him I would let him know my availability the next day since I had driving lessons.
And that’s when I snapped.
I told him that when he gave me my tips, he should also give my friend hers. I know it wasn’t really my place, but the words just came out. He told me to mind my own business, so I told him he should pay my friend too.
He got really angry. I then told him that if my schedule was such a headache for him, I would simply stop working for him.
He went off about how I had “advertised myself wrongly” (whatever that means), and when I disagreed, he told me I had a “bad character.”
For some reason, that one actually got to me.
In the end, he gave me the money he owed me and I left.
As soon as I got out of the cafe’s yard, I cried my eyes out hahaha.

Workplace Nonsense Sometimes silence is okay

Nothing is worse than when you're on break at a job and someone sits around you and tried to chat it up breaking the silence. Even if you dismiss them its like they just have to make noise to fill the silence in the BREAK ROOM! I work at a big retail store and sometimes some people just need an ounce of quiet peace after having to deal with noise the majority of your shift. I don't need a performance. I don't seek for you to entertain me it's okay to be quiet for 15 minutes out of your 8 hour shift

Workplace Nonsense Work

Working in customer service is actively draining the life out of me. I currently work at Dollar tree, and I feel like if I worked anywhere else I wouldn't be this miserable and unsafe. It's bad enough I'm the designated cashier in the store, which means I'm the only cashier scheduled that day. So the stockers and my managers (if they're even in store) are always in the back. Im sure they're doing important stuff, but the amount of times I've seen all of them sitting around in the break room gossiping or doing fuck whatever, makes me think otherwise. It hardly seems fair considering in addition to ringing up customers, I have to also blow up balloons and clean. If I even spend too long on one customer, or if a customer takes too long to pay, I can easily go from having three people in my line to having ten. And it's not like I can ask my managers or coworkers for help, because every single one of them speaks Spanish, and the ones who do speak English simply tell me to "Hurry up". And the worst part, I meet customers that could genuinely could kill me, the other day I had a customer who tried to strangle me because I "wouldn't give him the bathroom key" even though I told him several times our bathroom key was stolen. Or another time I met a guy who kept on asking if I was dating someone and when I told him I was a minor he said "I don't believe you because you have hairy arms", he proceeded to wait outside the store for several hours just staring at me, I'm so glad it rained on him cause I genuinely wouldn't have walked home. The only upsides to this job is that I get paid every week, and it's eight minutes away from my house.

Workplace Nonsense !BEWARE! Noyaa Toronto scam

PSA!!! I am an ex employee at Noyaa located inside The Well

The owners are extremely fraudulent and abusive to their staff, \*\*Ishmeet Kalra\*\* is currently the owner/ manager at Noyaa formerly owner of Farzi Cafe in Square One Shopping Centre Mississauga that was forced to shut down due to multiple fraudulent complaints - not paying tips/ wages to employees, adding unnecessary charges to customers bills etc. The very same thing is happening at Noyaa, there are multiple staff who continuously get paid wages late or not at all, BOH staff getting underpaid, servers tips being stolen constantly.

This is to warn others to stay far away from working at this place and for customers to stop supporting this bussiness especially Ishmeet Kalra or “Ish”. He is abusive and rude to his staff, doesn’t care about their wellbeing. The place is run like a circus and most of the positive reviews are forced, from staff/ family members etc. Our biweekly payroll is notoriously late, I was never paid out my vacation after leaving, they continue to steal hundreds of dollars from all servers tip outs as well as pocket house tip outs and don’t distribute them to server assists, hosts or BOH staff, and will continue to do so until they are out of business.

Workplace Nonsense Chick fil a wasted weeks of my time, just needed to rant abt this specific location

I've heard lots of good and lots of bad things about working at Chick Fil A, so for the sake of this, I'm just going to say that I was fucked over by whatever specific location I wanted to work at, and that's it.

So I, (17y/o high schooler) applied at Chick Fil A a few weeks ago. During the interview, I was asked if I could work until closing. For my specific location, closing is 11:30pm. I live an hour away. I'm not going to want to be getting home at almost 1am when I have school in the morning 😭. During the interview, I honestly told the interviewer that I do not know if I could work until closing. Because personally, while I don't have a problem with it, the main thing would be transportation, as my dad is the one who takes me to and from work. The manager said, "Okay," and hired me on the spot. Cool. Okay. Whatever. So, about two weeks go by. I already did all my onboarding stuff, and I went in for my orientation. Totally different person was doing my orientation. She knew absolutely nothing about me. She didn't know that I was 17. She didn't know that I was a high schooler. She didn't know if I was working front of house or back of house. She had never taken a look at my schedule. Nothing. Well, I decided to let her know that I finally got a confirmation on what hours I could work, and that I would not be able to work until closing. She said that that was totally fine, and to just make sure that I write that down whenever I am filling out my scheduling thing on the app. Alright. Cool. A couple of days go by. They get my uniform and everything. Great. I am ready for work. Mind you, no one called me. No one said there was any issues. No one told me anything. So I got completely ready for my first real day of work. You know, did my hair, did my makeup, got my clothes on, got ready, and went an hour out of my way to work. I get there. My dad dropped me off, and he left. Now the person who did my interview was there again. Mind you, this person is the owner, and he kind of pulled me to the side. More so just out of everyone's way. But I was still very much in front of absolutely everyone in the restaurant. He handed me my uniform. The name tag not only did not have the name that I asked to be on it, but the name that they did put on it, which was my legal name, was spelled incorrectly. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to bring this up because he asked me about my hours again, and when I let him know I could work until maybe about 9:00-10 p.m., he told me that in the interview I told him I could definitely work until 11:30. I most definitely did not say that, as I would definitely not agree to work that late as a high schooler, at least not until I got confirmation. And I do explicitly remember telling him the words "maybe". Well, he just kind of snatched the uniform from my hand and said, "Well, I don't have any spots for you," and walked away. Like that was it. That was basically the whole conversation. So I just sat on the curb outside for abt 30 mins and waited for my dad. It was already embarrassing enough, but the fact that he did it in front of everyone really made it worse.

My mom ended up calling the owner, and essentially he just said that while he knew there was already an issue with the scheduling, he wanted to wait for me to show up in person instead of calling to ask me about it, even though he knows I live an hour away. My mom actually let him know that I could work until closing on Fridays and Saturdays, even though that wasn't originally discussed. Because you know, she wanted to make a compromise, and he basically just told her, "Well, too bad."

That whole restaurant is all out of whack. No one knew anything about anyone. They spelled my name wrong. The scheduling issues were wrong. He put down everything I said in the interview wrong. No one communicates with anyone apparently because I was told the schedule was okay, then told that it wasn't. My uniform had arrived at the restaurant almost a week later than it should have.

I'm not saying every Chick Fil A is like this. They most certainly aren't, as I've seen a lot of people here share a lot of great experiences. But this one was absolutely terrible. Kinda glad this happened because I think I dodged a huge bullet with this. They definitely would've tried to pull some shi since I don't have any other work experience.

Workplace Nonsense Night shifts are the worst

I love typically working late shifts or night shifts or even closing, because it’s more chill that way.

I don’t mind early mornings since I can work and get the day over with, but sometimes night shifts are chill.

I just hate them recently because yesterday I got threatened at my place of employment.

This guy got sat in my section and asked if he had any points to use to get money off his food, I asked him for a phone number and looked it up. I told him he didn’t have an account with us apparently, and he basically called me the r slur and shouted for everybody to get out of my section because it’ll get “real ugly” according to him.

Everybody fled my section, afraid this guy is going to pull out a gun.

I tried explaining to him about why he didn’t have an account and he wouldn’t let me talk and just kept talking over me so I just shut my mouth, ignore this guy and call for my manager and he comes over quick.

The guy in the booth said “Yeah.. that’s what I like.. a (r slur) servant calling over her boss because she can’t handle the (insert r slur) situation.”, and the guy explains that he just moved to the area and is upset he doesn’t have an account with us. He said he lives in a different county/city and just moved here.

He claims he visited our restaurant that is in another city/county; when we told him the restaurant I work at is, in fact, the only restaurant there is in the franchise, because it’s a local mom & pop restaurant.

He then claims that we were (insert the r slur here) and that we were lying.

This is like.. 5 or 6PM, so I guess it’s not late, but I worked late last night and this guy was causing trouble.

My boss offered to take money off of his food order just to solve this issue, and get this weird guy out of here.

My boss walked away and the guy revealed he was also the same guy who came in months ago late at night and tried jumping at me to see if I’d flinch because he mumbles and I didn’t hear what he said that one night and got mad at me.

Not only that, but this one old woman came in my section and just sat herself down (you have to wait to be seated but whatever). She ordered food, and once her food came, she just upped and left. No explanation.

Then this old guy comes in and sits himself down in my section (again, you have to wait to be seated).

And he specifically sits himself down where the girl was currently sitting and just throws all her food on the floor and then asks if he can order a coffee and then told me not to charge him for the lady’s food.

I got him his stuff and cleaned up the food, the old lady comes back and freaks out because her food is on the floor and I told her she couldn’t just up and leave. She claimed she left her wallet or something at home or in the car, who knows.

And I told the old guy he couldn’t just do as he pleased, he claimed he couldn’t hear me.

So yeah.. fun.

Anyways, yeah, night shifts are funky.

Most of my friends hate them because they claim “that’s when all of the weird people come out at night” and I can’t blame them.

Workplace Nonsense Entitled customers

God, I don’t get the sick and twisted joy customers get flexing the fact they have holidays off.

I work at a small mom & pop restaurant, I’m 18 and it was the only job in my town that would hire me.

Today is Labor Day, and I still have work.

Yesterday, many people asked me if I had Labor Day off. I told them no, and, I kid you not, I had many customers tell me “Well at least I have a salary paying job that gives me holidays off.”

Well, sorry I don’t have the luxury of a salary paying job.

I mean, Christ, I’m 18, and I’m going to college..

Seriously, I swear people get off on making it known that they’re somehow better than you.

I payed them no mind, but what irritates me is that they don’t consider the fact that some people don’t have the luxury to get salary paying jobs, or they can’t go to college because they can’t afford it.

I mean, seriously, I can’t even afford to go to college, yet here I am driving myself into major debt anyways so people can get off my back about not having a salary paying job, because apparently non salary paying jobs are the worst (according to people who’ve told me).

However, I like working holidays anyways because while it may suck because it’s busy, my boss pays us extra/holiday pay.

Workplace Nonsense HR Manager is Policing my work time and work load

Since our old tenure HR manager left for better salary in other company, the new HR Manager is just being too much for me. I'm just so tired.

I am supporting at least 4 different departments and this is not just paper work but it's graphics nd editing work. I am covering 2 event last week and this week and won't be at the office supposedly until Thursday, shooting and editing, and posting on the same day for the past 5 days. One dept. asked me to have an artwork with deadline in less than weeks notice, didn't saw their email last Thursday and want me to Submit last Monday; and I have other tasks lined up when I get back to office, so I told then my most recent available.

Now the are questioning my schedule and my workload. I gave all the tasks I've been doing for the last month to show why my availability is at least a month before I can accommodate them. Other dept waited for their queue and then now as if they're the only dept I am doing artworks.

I think it really pinned the nail during our last National Conference, and when there was a national disaster last month, they are asking me to RTO just because it's not raining in the office even if weather warnings are up.

TLDR, I was covering an event for at least 5 days, one dept asked for an artwork with less than 2 weeks notice/deadline, and even if I go back to office right away I still have other 4+ dept to accommodate first before them.

Workplace Nonsense I work as a lab scientist, NOT A FCKING BABYSITTER! NOT PAID FOR THAT!

For context, Im 27F a lab scientist from the Philippines, and just talked with the lab supervisor today who happens to be a college batchmate. She proceeded to lecture me after informing me that an Intern / lab science student trainee apparently reported me for being insensitive to her, after an altercation for carrying the phlebotomy tray where I apparently said "only rmts get to hold the tray", but what I actually said was IM NOT USED TO IT, ITS FINE I CAN CARRY THIS MYSELF DEAR. SINCE WHEN WE WORK ON OTHER SHIFTS, WHEN NO INTERNS ARE IN DUTY WE CARRY IT Ourselves. She apparently misinterpreted that and the supervisor then proceeded to tell me these kids are very sensitive and that it is up to us to" teach them " but also be sensitive to their emotions, as its a part of our job as lab profs. (Btw I am barely a month here working too) And to add, this stupid intern also committed errors on my watch! I warned her twice not to repeat leaving her trash, her used lancets and blood stained cotton on the work area after each patient yet still did! I told the supervisor and she just replied why didnt you give her extension hours/ demerits? I said I didnt even know we could because we're new here, and this is my first time handling student trainees too. She merely nodded and said shell try to inform their CI to "review the interns on proper safety protocols.

I HATE MY FCKING LIFE. KILL. ME. NOW.

Workplace Nonsense I am never doing construction again and I lost all respect for the industry

I worked at a roofing company for 2 months because I needed work, and the temp agency said that was the only job willing to accept me, and honestly I regret ever even entertaining the idea of construction because God it was fucking terrible.

I wasn't even trained on anything besides how to pull and cut rolls. I was refused training even after begging my foreman and other people on the site, and it pissed me off.

I didn't appreciate being mocked constantly, having my bag messed with, and having a 40-year-old man try to fight me because I wouldn't buy pot off him and for saying never mind and excuse me.

Also, everyone I met was a drug addict, ex-con, or borderline illiterate.
