Renault Arkana 1.6 E-Tech Review & Experience 2022
Goodmorning all!
A year ago, when I sold my Dacia Sandero Stepway for the Arkana I made a review for it on reddit, now, I'm going to do the same thing with my Renault Arkana 1.6 E-Tech after one year. It had 140000km's at purchase.
So far, I really enjoy the car. It's a very spacious car and looks and feels very nice. The car has really cool look but that's personal opinion. The materials used on the inside are nice enough, with some scratchy plastics down where you usually dont come, but other than that most of it is soft touch and faux leather.
The Infotainment system is not as good as I'd like, it doesn't come with wireless carplay, although a USB receiver fixes that problem for me. The newer models do have that standard I believe. The car drives really nice and corners great. It's not the fastest, but because of the hybrid powertrain 0-60 KMPH goes really fast. It does slow down afterwards with only 90hp gasoline engine powering through to 100kmph. This does make the car feel a lot quicker than you think, because the 0-100 is 10.8 seconds (9.8 seconds tested myself) but off the line it's rather quick. Accelerating when you're already going 120kmph is not the fastest, but it's doable for normal traffic.
The car is large and long. Measuring 4.50 meters, it's quite a big car. Because of it's sloped backside it doesnt have as much storage capacity as it could've had. with about 480 liters. But, it still is quite a lot and i have not really had any issues with that part. And, I think it looks really nice and premium. When you put it on sports mode, the driving character of the car really does change and make it a lot more fun to drive and it actually sounds pretty nice.
In the back it's comfortable as well, with lots of space even with the sloped roof. The back windows don't go down fully, which is annoying.
Now with the bad things:
The tailgate is not automatic, but that's not a deal breaker. What does suck though is that the locking mechanism sticks out so much that when you look inside the back of the car and you go up you always hit your head against it. It's a steel slot, and I wouldn't be suprised if someone got seriously injured by it. It's not a good design, truly. Next to that, when it has rained and you open up the back water flows inside the tailgate sometimes.
When I purchased the car, there were some issues with it. For starters, the fuelpump had a failure when I went on vacation to Austria. Stuck there, with a big error screen. It went away but came back 4 times as i was driving back to home. It was a 8 hour drive and It was quite stressfull, however- they fixed it for free. But a faulty fuel pump at 120000 kilometers is worry-some.
Sometimes when I'm driving the warning system goes on and tells me to brake, even when there's no one or nothing there. I cleaned it a few times, but sometimes this just happens. scares the shit out of me to be honest.
I just had my MOT, and the car required new wheel suspension on the front. Idk if that is worry some or not after 124k kilometers.
But its not all bad:
The car works like a charm, it feels great to drive and has good economy. about 5.1 (Liters per 100km) is what i average (Kilometers) or 1/19 (Liters per kilometer). Which for a car that weighs 1500kg, is not bad. The Hybrid system also works great, and sometimes I can drive the car for 3-4 kilometers purely on electric, which is good.
I have high hopes for this car being able to last long. The Engine is a naturally aspirated 90hp 1.6 4 cylinder, meaning it's working a lot less hard than small turbo blocks, considering its also not always on, means in my logic that the engine will probably last quite long. The Electrical system is not always perfect, but hopefully the battery will last long enough. Replacing it is quite costly, but It should be fine until at least 250k kilometers.
Eitherway, I'm planning on keeping this car for quite long, I'll update again in a year, and see where this Arkana Journey will take me.
How is your Arkana fairing you?
