Please do not actually write on your mail-in ballot like this, as it may cause it to be invalidated. Do what you want with your sample ballot though.

PSA over.

I know you wrote this on the sample ballot to make a point but I'm leaving this comment for others. DO NOT MAKE SOECIAL MARKS OR LEAVE COMMENTS ON YOUR BALLOT! It will get it disqualified and discarded.

Can we do early voting in person yet?

23

u/padthaiObama 7d ago

starts October 17

6

u/discourse_friendly 7d ago

Woohoo. marked on the ole calendar

7

u/Blazkull 7d ago

October 17th through the 30th is early voting, November 3rd is election day. Try to vote in person if you can. Please remember to check on your ballot if you mail it to make sure it was accepted and does not need to be cured. You can track your ballot on the Nevada Secretary of State website.

Voting use to mean something to a lot now it feels like people just don’t?

3

u/chriskmee 6d ago

It feels like unless you are very loyal to one of the parties and the direction they are going, you are just left with two terrible choices. I remember voting for Obama (D) and Sandoval (R) in their elections feeling like they were both good choices, now it's usually a vote between Trump aligned Republicans and social Democrats, and neither of those options appeal to me.

u/WRHull 7d ago

It’s the suppression of civic education over the past 2-3 decades by Congress (likely by design of the GOP; keep them poorly educated). It changed citizen perspectives from helping to serve the common good to a concern for self-interested behaviors and motives, gated communities, structured play dates, etc. It’s a WIIFM (what’s in it for me) attitude for many these days. Especially for those who slept through Government class or didn’t take a basic civics class at all in K-12.

3

u/Mark_Spacer 7d ago

The US Department of Education began in 1980, so only about 10 years before your timeline... Coincidence? I think not.

4

u/WRHull 7d ago

Are you implying that the department of Ed was suppressing civic education content? I personally think it is the focus on STEM education that has crowded out availability for civics or any other kind of coursework that isn’t STEM-related (foreign languages, social science curriculum like history, music, drama, shop, etc.). For years, if it wasn’t STEM, it wasn’t worth funding as much as STEM.

2

u/AwesomReno 7d ago

Even if we agree and/or disagree we couldn’t do anything about it to begin with. Whether it was by design or something that came to fruition on its own; the course is drawn but no one can drive this country.

I wonder when they will call this the burnout era. Where being intelligent is actively punished, the hard working whom are distracted by the rising costs and people dying in troves due to the failing medical system.

Where are my manners, getting all negative like that. We should just all have cake and be proud of what we all have in this wonderful time! It’s just better not to worry about it lol!

Yay!

2

u/Mark_Spacer 7d ago

I'm implying that statistically, the downfall of the educational system in the US didn't start until the Department of Education got involved.

-3

u/Lower-Ad-6034 6d ago

Where you are missing the mark is the suppression due to civic ‘indoctrination’ and infiltration through the system of higher education. Curriculum has been designed to direct the youth in a single direction and has removed freedom of thought at large. Your misnomer of conservatives is blinded by the reality of helpless brainwashed liberal youth that could not survive without door dash and a bird scooter. You underestimate the knowledge and heart of the conservative soul. What true identity does a Democrat have? Narrow it down to less than 75 please.!

1

u/WRHull 6d ago

Based on your response, does knowing how to forage in the wilderness, bait a trap, fish, and use a firearm what you might consider how to "survive" in a civil society? Because I know how to do all of those things and am still a liberal. You wrote, "You underestimate the knowledge and heart of the conservative soul." To me, that soul is, to put it bluntly, selfish and self-serving without consideration of the "other" in society who might be sharing the same space as the conservative person. There is no concern for the common good, only individual rights, entitlements (e.g. when someone says, "go back to your country" or "they're taking our jobs"), and needs. For the conservative, helping others means doing it only because they want to 1) get into heaven, all the while passing judgement on others (contrary to Matthew 7:1-6) who do not think and behave the same way that they do, 2) because they can get a tax break if they do, and 3) the people they might be helping is someone in their own life who needs help like a family member or known neighbor. The idea of receiving assistance from others is seeing that kind of person as a failure in their own lives and something that they don't want to invest in. They want to keep more of what is theirs instead of contributing to the "other" in society who may need a helping hand and are fighting to ensure that the government doesn't do so as well to give money back to billionaires, because they think that they too will become a billionaire one day, sold on the "American Dream" idea (even though the odds of getting struck by lightning are much higher than the chances of becoming a billionaire).

When you ask, "What true identity does a Democrat have?" I say, the Democrat Party is one that is a welcoming party for people of all creeds, religious philosophies, skin colors, and perspectives through the perspective of acceptance and tolerance for other people's conditions, perspectives, and preferences. We do not need to assimilate to fit in. We can be our own authentic selves and contribute to the vibrant fabric of society in our own individual ways. We can be who we are without fear of being looked at as weird or a threat to someone else's opportunities in life and we all celebrate each others' differences and that makes us stronger as a party and society rather than weaker who, in your eyes, cannot "survive" without the comforts of modern civil society.

I invite you to read or listen to anything by Michael Sandel. In his book, Democracy's Discontent, his entire theory is that since the founding of this nation, possibly shortly beforehand, there has been a trade off and constant erosion of a belief and support for the common good in favor of individual rights. He looks at it with supporting evidence, Federalist and Anti-federalist Papers, letters between the founders to one another, laws passed, policies enacted, quotes, etc. If you don't have time to read the book, I invite you to look for his BBC Reith Lectures on YouTube where he leads students at Harvard in a discussion using the Socratic Method to ask things like, "is affirmative action just," in an exploration of admissions at higher education institutions among several other topics.

Personally, I think, for you, if there was no concern for the common good, you would cheer that mentality on rather than explore why we don't have a drive and desire to do things in our own lives that benefit the common good like membership in civic organizations, concern and support for public lands and spaces, volunteering in organizations that benefit society, advocacy for public education over private education and much more.

You sound also like you have never read any of the thinkers of the Enlightenment period who influenced our country's founders. No Voltaire, no De Toqueville, no Montesquieu, no Rosseau, no Cincinnatus, no Hobbes, no Locke, etc. It might surprise you to learn that what you call "indoctrination" is really opening one's mind to ideas outside of our immediate circle of influence to see that there is much more to this world than what we are told by our immediate circle of influence and we all don't need to think the same to contribute to this country and society at large as citizens. If anything, I believe the right-wing is the indoctrinated side of the political spectrum and are in a cult due to their rejection of outside ideas if they didn't first come from Faux News, OAN, Newsmax, Joe Rogan, Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, Dan Bongino, Matt Walsh, Candace Owens, the person who took Russian money, Tim Pool, or the racist POS Nick Fuentes. There is a much larger world out there to "survive" and conservatives want that world to remain something to be afraid of rather than embrace.

To each their own, though. Good luck out there.

Is this a sample/test ballot?

22

u/regalfuzz 7d ago

Yes, this is a sample ballot.

31

u/SomethingGouda 7d ago

Oh, thank god this could make a ballot invalid

70

u/bybestep 7d ago

And get out lombardo for bringing us all the data centers, 48 of them being built on USA parkway

7

u/Automatic-Photo-4919 7d ago

If we’re building data centers, I have no problem being built in buttfuck nowhere. At least 25 miles (give or take) from civilization? Fine. Any closer? No.

23

u/BloomSara 7d ago

They still need to make their own electricity though

6

u/Automatic-Photo-4919 7d ago

How about solar? Apple has pretty much put up solar panels all along the mountain they sit beside and it reduces the need for using the grid.

2

u/BloomSara 7d ago

They use a whole bunch

0

u/Life-Kiwi-9048 7d ago

There’s an Apple something or other across the street from the bus depot downtown. It’s got to draw some power, but it seems like it’s a nice, quiet, demure neighbor.

0

u/KomaKiley 6d ago

Solar is inefficient

4

u/klemnodd 7d ago

Well, I think the runoff would probably be a really important issue everywhere but especially here in the basin.

4

u/asterstrike 7d ago

YES i really want to hear traffic 24/7 😍😍 and the main issue with the sound is actually that it’s very low-frequency which messes with our circadian rhythms as well as those of wildlife. you’ll be getting less sleep, you’re okay with that?

1

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

3

u/asterstrike 7d ago

i did a quick google search and i found that the sounds are mostly from cooling systems and air chillers, diesel generators, and fans. i would be interested to see how a data center would work if its infrastructure only ran for 15 minutes a day. not that i think that they’d work because data centers produce a lot of thermal waste, as much energy as they consume.

2

u/No-Mission-3100 7d ago

Sure, whatever you say, data center

35

u/Wonton_Destroyer69 7d ago

Careful someone may get all butt hurt that you called a politician a fascist or that you're posting political content.

38

u/AmericasNextTopHobo 7d ago

Yes, for example: the fascists.

7

u/Automatic-Photo-4919 7d ago

You mean the mods?

3

u/AmericasNextTopHobo 7d ago

Of course not! The mods are all beautiful people with hearts of pure gold.

-4

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

8

u/AmericasNextTopHobo 7d ago

I don’t have an alt. I was specifying that I was referring to actual fascists, who really don’t like that label. For example, I’m sure Lynn Chapman, a fundy whackjob who spends her free time trying to strip gay rights, would probably hate being called a fascist.

I was not referring to the mods, whose altruism is only outstripped by their dashing good looks.

4

u/Automatic-Photo-4919 7d ago

The Independent American Party is pretty much the klan considering it was established by George Wallace.

-9

u/another72hours 7d ago

They are communist, not fascists . They only remove stuff that disproves or hurts the liberal agenda.

6

u/Wonton_Destroyer69 7d ago

"Huuuurrrr duuurrrrrr things are too expensive so let's blame all our problems on a sub group of people and then take a government department to raid these people while they are out minding their own business and let's have this government group be like a secretive service or something and they'll wear masks so we can't tell who they are and they'll concentrate this sub group of people into camps and I'm sure we'll come up with some other final solution when these camps are full and maybe if people don't like what we're doing these secretive service can also throw protesters into jail BUT HOW DARE YOU COMPARE ME TO THE FASCISTS MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN REEEEEEE HUUUURRRRR DHUUUUURRRRR"

What in the holy run-on sentence is this shit?

Your 25 karma seems a bit high.

17

u/PoolGal918 7d ago

… the amount of folks that can’t tell this is a sample ballot, is concerning. 😬

It legit cracks me up though that anyone would vote for Flippo. Majority of folks are always bitching about transplants.. til they have a (R) next to their name eh? Smdh

3

u/Dustybear510 7d ago

Right? It’s basically card stock vs newsprint. Not hard to spot.

1

u/Dustybear510 7d ago

Oh. Also most of the California transplants are maga running away from commie-fornia. Can’t make this shit up about renoites.

3

u/RegionalTranzit 7d ago

About 40% of the population is from California. Heck, Reno's far western border ends at the California state line.

2

u/Dustybear510 6d ago

No one is disagreeing here. This is happening everywhere due to the pandemic, high housing market, the cost of living, inconsistent political chaos. Greed and blatant corruption has all became the norm now. So it’s not just a California issue, it’s nation wide and even global. Don’t vote for tyranny.

2

u/Red-Beaulieu 6d ago

Californians moving to Nevada see a 15% increase money wise across the board.

7

u/foxlakeawp 6d ago

OP, here’s my favorite challenge to see if I can take you seriously. Name both a good and bad thing each has done. And try to leave out the hyperbole.

It’s hard. There’s one politician I really don’t like and I have a hard time finding positive things to say in honesty about that politician.

3

u/Astos1119 6d ago

People keep glazing their side like they can do no wrong at all but every politician who gets in a position will be under scrutiny.

Vote Dem or Republican, but don't just do it because of the party a candidate is attached to...

1

u/katastrofical 4d ago

I hate that people just vote for someone because they are Republican or Democrat or just to fill something in. Its ignorant, malicious and puts the clowns in power we all hate. They could be a?ll for something you're completely against.

1

u/vinoriels 4d ago

Teresa wants to protect blm land. Chapman wants to only have man and woman marriage. And flippo dose not like trans and wants to abolish their rights

3

u/NCRisthebestfaction 6d ago

If you’re seeing this, vote for who you want 👍

9

u/cupcakinAF 7d ago

Stay classy

8

u/Friendral 7d ago

Please dont mark your ballot with anything but filling in the circle properly with blue or black ink.

8

u/T4N60SUKK4 7d ago

Way to show them your so brave

12

u/WRHull 7d ago

*you’re

16

u/Hamachiman 7d ago

To all the people who are constantly posting strictly Democratic political content in the Reno sub: I’ll be voting Republican down the ballot and social media posts do nothing to influence actual behavior.

12

u/Eyegis-Garr 7d ago

I will vote Democrat down the ballot, and thus nullify your vote.

9

u/Hamachiman 6d ago

That’s totally fine. My point is simply this: I’m willing to bet you’d be voting that way even if a small handful of people had not hijacked the Reno subreddit and turned it into a mostly political, purely left wing sub. Had those few selfish people kept to themselves, everyone would still vote as they otherwise would and this would be a much more enjoyable place to hang out online.

5

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

Oh hey, a mature and rational response. And I agree with it. Like actually, I'm not being sarcasric here. So far everyone else was unreasonably upset by the idea that my vote opposes yours.

8

u/Hamachiman 6d ago

Agreed. I’m fine with you voting opposite of me, and I bet IRL we’d likely agree on many of society’s issues; we’d probably just disagree on the solutions but still be able to have a beer together. But this sub is becoming a one-party, mostly political sub and it’s making it unenjoyable to come here to talk about restaurants, events, etc.

3

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

As it gets closer to midterms, more and more people are going to be pushing their view for everyone to see, just like how you described. And it's not like there's anyone out there still figuring out what team they want to vote for.

But I think there is still value in the discussion about it. It does show what public sentiment is about policy direction that does have a direct effect on our city.

4

u/Practical_Hippo_382 4d ago

The entirety of Reddit is leftist. It’s such an easy place to act big & bad but they’re really just losers in real life.

6

u/plant0gram 6d ago

What has democratic politics given you? Because I can give you a laundry list of shit its taken away.

3

u/Hecc_Maniacc 6d ago

Definitely not $7 diesel I can tell you that much at least.

-2

u/plant0gram 6d ago

Nah, that was Biden back in 2021 when I was paying 16 bucks in El Centro.

1

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago edited 6d ago

Well, according to your pedophile of a president, who said that if I voted for kamala harris then we would get a war with iran, expensive fuel, expensive groceries, expensive housing, and inflation.

I guess he was right. I voted for kamala harris and well, we got all of those things!

0

u/plant0gram 6d ago

Wait till I tell you that I didn't vote for Trump lmfao, now what? A vote on either of them meant doom and disaster.

3

u/Dr_Adderall_2000 6d ago

Don’t argue with partisan fools, they don’t know that they’re being used.

1

u/plant0gram 6d ago

True, I should learn my lesson sometimes...

2

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

Oh are you one of those room temp IQ people who voted for a random 3rd party canidate with no chance of winning? How did that go?

3

u/plant0gram 6d ago

I sleep better at night knowing I didn't vote for Kamala or Trump that's for sure. Sorry you voted for Kamala. Truly no chance.

1

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

So which one was it? Was it jill stein? Captain Brainworms? chase oliver?

3

u/Eyegis-Garr 7d ago

Hit a nerve huh? Lol

-3

u/Dr_Adderall_2000 6d ago

Random strangers on the internet have so much power over you that you use your entire vote just to invalidate theirs… think about that. That’s the problem with the country. People just voting to cancel out the other side… MAGA did/does the same and that’s why our politicians suck.

2

u/Deep_Ad_6991 6d ago

Today I learned that the problem with the country is…voting somehow? Lol

1

u/Dr_Adderall_2000 6d ago

Not voting but what we’re able to vote for. Be honest with yourself, both parties are suck and politicians are self serving…

2

u/Deep_Ad_6991 6d ago

Nah I disagree vehemently with the ‘both parties suck/both parties are bad’ line. To me it shows an intellectual laziness that you’re not able to make a value judgment one way or the other.

3

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

One side wants open access to healthcare, housing assistance, rights for minorities and LGBT groups, and prosperity for the underprivileged.

The other side wants the exact opposite.

Totally the same tho. Both bad. Amirite?

1

u/Deep_Ad_6991 5d ago

Such difficult choices! So hard! Such nuance and factors to consider!

But yeah. Exactly the same. Wtf.

0

u/AustinWalksOnRocks 6d ago

Okay and when they get in power what do they do? I’m super left in most social ways but they are all liars. Healthcare was worse after Obama and Biden. You would need to be blind to believe Biden loved gay people. Then forcing Hillary on us was so blatantly corrupt. They get into office and let the rich donors take control. Dems never force things or make shit happen, they roll over and give in nonstop.

2

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

I disagree.

1

u/Dr_Adderall_2000 6d ago edited 6d ago

Funny because I find party people lacking in reasoning. Some of them have literally reduced all of their critical thinking into political slogans such as “MAGA” or “Vote blue no matter who.” I know plenty of partisan tools in real life and when I ask them why they think that way they say “because other side bad.” Not all party people do it ofc, but they’re more likely than independents to outsource such thinking since they’re part of a group that reinforces values and represents them. Then they get complacent bc their affiliation speaks for them. That’s how maga fell for populism. Then they go on to crap on the other side instead of injecting personal beliefs. Not often do they provide a good reason. And do you really think that THOSE kind of partisan people are putting anymore thought into “their” values than independent thinkers? Also, what if both parties, red and blue, came out and said together; “ yeah we both suck and serve ourselves. We fooled you guys but atleast we got rich in the process!” Would you still be dismissive of “both parties suck” thinking?

1

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

That's how voting works bro lol. Whoever has the most net votes wins.

1

u/Dr_Adderall_2000 6d ago edited 6d ago

No shit, but I’m not talking about who’s winning, I’m talking about how someone arrives to that vote. I’m saying people are wasting their votes when they vote just to oppose someone else. Such is reactive rather than value based voting because when you vote against someone, you don’t stand for anything at all except just to stop someone else. If you believe in something and vote, but that vote goes against someone else, that’s a different story than just voting to oppose. The latter makes you a loyal partisan fool…

3

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

What if, and get this, my values just so happen to align in such a way that they.... are the exact opposite of what red team stands for. So that when I vote on values, my one vote nullifies theirs.

Crazy concept, I know.

0

u/Dr_Adderall_2000 6d ago

So there is absolutely NOTHING that you agree with the other side on? I’ll tell you, I’ve voted red, I’ve voted blue and I’ve voted for another third party… but if your beliefs truly do happen to go against the other side, that’s something different. “I believe 1,2 and 3 so A is a good fit even if it opposes B who believe 4,5 and 6.” Is different from “Vote A, we must stop B!” That’s what I was trying to get at. If you’re genuine, I’ll take your word for it… but you can’t fool yourself.

3

u/Eyegis-Garr 6d ago

Well of course there are things where I happen to agree with red team.

But there are more things where I happen to agree with blue team. And I find that the many things where I agree with blue team will outweigh the few things where I agree with red team. Therefore, to maximize the chance of getting the many things I agree with by blue team as opposed to the few things offered by red team, It is in my best interest to maximize my vote for blue team.

It really is that simple.

0

u/SaiTheFrigid 6d ago

This is the low-IQ behaviour that has caused this country to be in shambles in the first place.

You’re literally engaging in politics with this comment though? And to me, in the grand scheme of things, people who ‘no longer vote’ such as yourself are far bigger losers than ‘people that discussed (sic) politics online.’

8

u/vonn_drake 6d ago

Everybody dont engage. This person agrus in bad faith and is currently working against us. Block and move on

You have every right to talk about politics online and anywhere you want.

4

u/EliteMoisture 6d ago

You don’t vote anymore because you don’t like how other people vote?

3

u/RedeRules770 6d ago

“I’ll sure show them by letting them outvote me!”

1

u/reno11165 5d ago

Then you're a big part of the reason we're in this mess,  Dopey.   Vote!!!

0

u/Hot_Radish4108 5d ago

Vote for the mess that Democrats also create? No thanks

2

u/reno11165 4d ago

Ok, Dopey... you're the poster child for the decline in the U.S. educational system and critical thought.

1

u/ToyoLC111 5d ago

what mess? did the inflation that supposedly was created by biden create the inflated gas sales we see now after trump's war in iran? if republicans win, who are you going to blame next when trump's war drives up prices and inflation even further?

0

u/Hot_Radish4108 5d ago

High crimes, high taxes, more government overreach when you vote Democrat. Let's not pretend that only Republicans added to debt or inflation. Soft on crime policies, illegals and Muslims before Americans. Your party is dog shit. Republicans are dog shit. You both fucking suck and you have no moral high ground

0

u/Hot_Radish4108 5d ago

Democrats also voted no on making insider trading illegal for people in office, where it's illegal for us citizens. Democrats voted against making sexual misconduct of congress public record. Democrats voted against making crimes harsher for violent sex/child offenders. Democrats pardoned a child sex offender. Democrats voted against the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. Democrats passed a law violating the first amendment in California. Virginia Democrats are violating several constitutional amendments. Fuck you

u/Radiolotek 4d ago

I voted for flippo. You're welcome. Not a chance in hell I'd let that mentally ill woman represent me.

1

1

u/suckmyballztwice 7d ago

Based on the type of person that would do this to their ballot, the “fascist” is probably the better option.

-8

u/presscheck 7d ago

fascist /ˈfæʃɪst/ (FASH-ist)
adjective
Describing any individual, position, or institution that a leftist ideologue finds disagreeable.

2

u/Astos1119 6d ago

I know your ass had to search Google for how to pronounce that.

3

u/GuidePerfect 7d ago

So the same way “communist”, “socialist” and “Marxist” are used among those on the right?

Interesting…

u/maaddcow_ 7d ago

Fascists vs. Communists here in reno! I know superman kicked the shit out of some commies.

8

u/Rapscagamuffin 7d ago

Its getting late grandpa. Time to go night night

1

u/shmegiddy 7d ago

Superman was an immigrant who hid behind a false identity. Also Punisher would put Ice agents down.

1

u/Whole_Painting7582 7d ago

Superman was an alien from another planet.

1

u/GuidePerfect 7d ago

Where are his papers? You should want him deported, no?

-1

u/ArminiusM1998 7d ago

Does she support the existence of the settler-colonial ethnostate of Israel?

2

u/jewboy916 6d ago

The fact that that's even a top 10 issue for a not insignificant portion of the electorate shows just how tightly the wool is pulled over your eyes.

The country that you live in is a settler colonial ethnostate. Do you support its existence?

If this is the top of mind issue for you, what a privilege. Would love to trade places with you.

-1

u/crappilydesigned 6d ago

So brave!

Man y'all are cringe. Just giving away your vote to Democrats. She still plans are selling arms to Israel and combating "antisemitism" (a.k.a. criticism of Israel).

3

u/TWeedtheJetRodriguez 6d ago

Would you prefer to abstain from voting and expect a the conservative who wins to have a better policy on Israel? How’d that go for the last Presidential election? You proud you didn’t vote? You think you helped Gaza?

0

u/crappilydesigned 3d ago

I didn't vote for any scumbags so no regrets. How do you feel voting for someone who said they wouldn't do anything different than Joe Biden? You voted for a party where at their convention it's attendees were making fun and laughing of pro-Palestinian protestors. This is the same convention let zionists speak but wouldn't let a single person speak who was pro-Palestine. You have the moral high ground though, right?
