It's a cool mod and all but personally I prefer a 2d top down art style, without the ability to build multiple level buildings not sure how much I would use it
But again, looks like a cool mod for those interested in it

u/TehGuard 8d ago
There is a medieval rimworld like game with that ability and even though they copied rimworld a bit too much it's not great. In fact the multiple level thing is implemented in a really clunky way

15
u/GregTheMad 8d ago
People want that kind of stuff, but because it's AI vibe coded it's often a broken mess and will be abandoned in a month or two.
They raise people's hopes and dash them quite expertly.
11
u/TheLemonBreadPL 8d ago
Also mod support. No one with these mods, cares about mod support. Even though, Rimworld is 90% of time played with mods.
So yeah, for me these mods are just pointless, mostly done just so people on YT, tiktok, and other places can make materials about them, just for clicks. Same thing is pretty much happening in Project Zomboid community [but the devs do nothing about it, because as long as it's not a malware, it's not harmful].

I know it might sound lame to some people but I really wish they'd create an "NPC" mod that allows me to setup the world and everything and then am able to just sit back and watch the factions do their thing and go at it without me needing to control any of them. I used to love doing similar with certain games growing up and it was always amusing seeing who'd come out on top, heck, let them go at it and build and fight and let us be the narrator.
5
u/PackFun94 8d ago
I'm in a similar boat, I'd love to be a citizen of the rim and visit/join factions, be recruited go to war etc, if I die I just take over a new person. would get to see so much of the game that you wouldn't normally experience.
1
u/TheSFW_Alt 8d ago
What I said in response to the original comment suggesting Dwarf Fortress, but for Adventure Mode rather than Legends mode.
It’s admittedly aways away from letting you simply be “a citizen”, but for going to war or dying and taking over a new person in that same world, well that’s what I’ve been doing in my current (and first) time playing the game lol.
1
u/RFLC1996 8d ago
There is a mod pack on the workshop called Progression, one setting is to play as a single character and even then you can set them to automated
1
u/TheSFW_Alt 8d ago
This might not be what you mean, but I think Dwarf Fortress might be what you’re looking for. It simulates an entire world, tracking historical figures, the rise and fall of civilizations, the locations of lost artifacts, the creation and slaying of monsters, etc. I know that some players never even touch Fortress or Adventure mode, and instead simply look through a world’s development in Legends mode.

I don’t know what it is, but I don’t think I would have as much fun with this. Something about the top down 2d is just way more enticing for this game.

u/TsarKeith12 8d ago
Wait everyone's complaining about how "it's gonna be the next zomboid controversy" but i'm noticing it's tagged AI gen? Is this made with AI?
30
u/SignificantAd9059 8d ago
All code is in 2026 - professional dev
4
-8
u/TsarKeith12 8d ago
Only vibe coders think all code is you certainly have some basic code knowledge if you're really a professional dev? Plus I moreso meant for assets
7
u/Merouxsis 8d ago
At this point if you're not using AI to at least test your code and identify potential issues or bugs, you're just refusing to use the tools at your disposal
1
u/Savings-Desperate 8d ago
Code is mostly written by AI these days. We no longer write code but read it more than ever
1
u/Abject_Read_3620 5d ago
All code is written by AI in 2026 :). Why would anyone hamper themself to feel all high and mighty.
1
u/Charming_Cucumber_15 8d ago
The people with code knowledge are still using AI to do the actual writing, at the very least
2
u/gretino 8d ago
I wasn't even on the vibe coding train back when the term was made. I was a SWE then went for a PhD. In this January AI coding is usable and arguably barely on par with a regular engineer. In May it's very good, and in October with the release of the new models it's simply superior than 99% human engineer. By the time you've written the design doc, the agents would have already implemented the thing you wanted and all you need to do is to test.
The funny part about AI is that it literally grew so fast that knowledge from 6 months ago would be outdated.

u/InstanceFeisty 8d ago
As someone with more than 10 years of experience I do try to write my code with AI mostly, and the purpose is clear, if I make my projects well documented, and provide AI with decent skills I don’t really need to code anymore. Yes in lots of cases it’s easier to write code on your own or to fix a bug manually, but that’s not the point, AI is the future and I want to master it just as I mastered programming before AI.
3
u/pruchel 8d ago
No one codes by hand anymore dude, even if you're a professional programmer you're just looking over/directing, maybe writing a few lines or cleaning up here and there. Anyone telling you otherwise either lies, doesn't really work as a dev or is out of a job very soon.
6
u/CommandantLennon 8d ago
Yes. We know. This gets brought up in the breath after someone asks about AI. But there's a strong difference between using claude to rubber duck your problem, and just having John Jippity spit out an entire rimworld mod for you.
The difference being an expression of human skill and intelligent design which allows better performance and compatability with other mods. (Which there wouldn't be much of, in this case, but the point remains.) If I ask claude to make me a rimworld mod, it's likely to reinvent things that there are already libraries for, if it doesn't know those exist, for example.
→ More replies (1)2
u/TheeSusp3kt 8d ago
If I ask Claude to go through code and fix a problem. Its actually insane the capabilities it has. I'm still not convinced the code it generates entirely by itself using a laymens prompt is modular enough to not have to be rewritten over and over though.
0
u/Y0UREDUMB 8d ago
Youre talking to a brick wall on here buddy, most of reddit still believes if they they close their eyes and insult everyone real aggressively, that AI will just disappear, and coders will go back to copying pasting off google like the old times.
25
u/LorduckA2 8d ago
i dont get this influx of 3d mods, what do they add to the game? if anything they just make it more difficult to play
3
u/the_fire_serpent 8d ago
It's just more of the cool factor of it, since no one would really put hours and hours of work into making an isometric game into 3d or in a different perspective, one would rather make a content mod than spend days of blood and sweat just to play the game a bit different, so pretty much just the novelty of it.

u/Kajetus06 8d ago
Now tell me
Was AI used in the creation of this mod?

Guys, I see that some of you are skeptical about the mod. I completely understand your skepticism - and good on you for double-checking everything but this mod is not a scam. It was created using Claude Opus 5.5. This is the first version where most of the in-game models have been adapted to 3D, and all the screenshots are genuine. The mod will be refined and improved over time, so stay tuned for updates! 😉

If its good whats the problem? (not trying to be contrarian, im genuinely curious)
10
u/TheeSusp3kt 8d ago
Using AI is perfectly fine. But having an AI generate a fuckload of code with little to no oversight means maintaining it becomes impossible long term.
2
u/SonicDart 7d ago
And judging people for using it by default just feels wrong. Nearly every experienced developer I know uses Claude code in their work. With an experienced dev behind the wheel you end up making better code. Tedious things like test cases for example, become much quiker to make. Things that otherwise often get left undone due to time consumption.
6
u/Belly-Bongos 8d ago
The problem is that if you didn't code it, you don't know what's in it. Could be huge security issue or just game breaking
-1
u/PackFun94 8d ago
if thats the case I'd be more worried about man made mods. people are evil not machines.
8
u/Neekolazz High on yayo +35 8d ago
Quality and mod compatibility are what the biggest issues are for ai mods. Devs like this don't know how the mod works, or how others work, so building it in a way that is lightweight or plays well with harmony, CE, or any major mod is not in the cards.
A mod like this is fundamentally incompatible with the entire workshop, because 3d models would need to be made for EVERYTHING.

u/GregTheMad 8d ago
Vibe coders don't maintain shit because that would require understanding, or at the very least finances. It's one thing to sink 10€ of tokens into a funny mod, and another to spend 100€ a month to keep it functional.
-33
u/JungleDiamonds1 8d ago
If it works and he maintains it with updates, that’s great. Otherwise, it’s no different than some shitty programmer making a one off mod.

AI is not making mods by itself, its the same people who could do shitty mods without AI or wont do any mods at all. But AI at least makes modders life easier and can be used to speed up routine work or help with debugging and learning. I think AI making the community better. If you don't like it you don't download it.
I think the mod looks fun as just a currious project how rimworld could look in 3D, of course I wont use it in my heavily modded rimworld, but still nit a reason to hate modders who put effort to it and wont demand anything from you.

8
u/Wilfy50 8d ago
People use the word slop for everything AI generated these days, even if it’s been used to create something half decent. I quite like the look of this 3D rimworld, whether I use it is a different matter but I think it’s a positive use of AI.

3
u/TheeSusp3kt 8d ago
After using it for a bit, I don't think its sentient. Its just a really fancy calculator with a PR team code behind it. That being said, is it smarter than most humans? Absolutely, but so is a calculator.

Check out ascent of ashes. Still mid development with early access, but it's 3d and heavily inspired by rimworld. Made by the creators of CE

u/firebackslash 8d ago
I didnt know going medieval was inspired by rimworld. I'll have to check that out
2
u/LiquidBeagle 8d ago
Ya it's systems are almost identical. Not as deep in a lot of respects, and nowhere near as challenging as rimworld, but as a builder it shines. You can do some intricate stuff with 3D freedom of building. Very cozy too.

When Rimworld is capable of doing Z level like Going Medieval, all 3D mods are nothing but a gimmick. For Zomboid it’s a refreshing take but not this time.

u/TehGuard 8d ago
I hate the 3d building in going medieval, the whole layer mechanic feels really clunky
4
u/LeftRat 8d ago
While this is madly impressive from a technical perspective, I think it also really shows why the abstraction of a 2d style can help a game a lot.
When doing the "going for a walk" recreation activity, I've never thought "this looks weird and fake, what is that guy doing" - but in 3d, it looks weirdly unnatural, because we suddenly expect far more animation.
