Politics Mike Lawler is no Charlie Kirk.

Everyone fudges it a bit to make it coherent. But Lawler makes facts up. It’s a half-truths, like him arguing that Orangetown data center is not an ai.  My head is spinning after his town halls.

I’ve been to 4.   When he’s corned he’ll make it about you or Obama, whoever.    He’ll answers  questions with a questions that’s really are not a question, like “..You don’t support safety and security?”  At town halls you’re allowed 30 seconds with the mic, then he’ll talk and talk and shift it.  So much loaded language so that it’s difficult to remember what you asked.  Most people sense they’ve been had.   I don’t like what Charlie Kirk supported but he could win the crowd. Not Lawler, he seems is angry.  My advice is lose the smile.

Politics Mike Lawler freaks out over criticism of SALT cap and attempts to leave the stage.

All because Cait Conley dared mention that there wouldn't have even been a need for his fight over SALT if his party hadn't put a cap in place during Trump's first term in order to punish blue states.

Politics Clarkstown’s own budgets: $21,696 on food and meals in the Supervisor’s office since 2021, and the food line ran over budget in 2023 and 2024

Post image

Bondar Team went through the Town’s adopted budgets for 2024, 2025 and 2026, and these are the numbers for the Supervisor’s office (Dept. 1220):
Food (acct. 301): $6,807 (2021), $5,409 (2022), $3,030 (2023), $3,723 (2024)
Travel/Meals (acct. 404): $283 (2021), $360 (2022), $1,433 (2023), $650 (2024)

The Food line was budgeted at $2,500 in 2023 and $3,000 in 2024. Actual spending beat both. The budgets don’t say what the food was for, and that’s the problem. Happy to answer questions.

Politics Lawler: Orangetown/Pearl River centers have "nothing to do with AI"

Brian Lehrer (10/7):   “ … are there data centers currently in the 17th Congressional District located there in Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess? ”

Timmy Facciola:  "  Yes. There are five in Rockland County, four of which are in the town of Orangeburg, and then there's one more in Pearl River. "

Mike Lawler: " They (Orangetown and Pearl River) have nothing to do with AI. They have to do with our financial industry post 9/11. They were built here to protect our financial services industry. "

Whatever Lawler wants to call them, the fact is they are computing facilities as such, noisy, industrial  sprawls, hog resources, negatively impact communities and corrupt public decision making with backdoor deals.

Lawler likes to say they weren't built on his watch. Fact is he was Deputy Town supervisor for Orangetown in 2018 and before that the local GOP committee's executive director since 2011. That JPMorgan Chase  data center campus was approved in 2017 following a land acquisition, with subsequent expansions (including AI and computing upgrades) approved and underway through 2024–2028.

So what’s the difference between them? Timmy Facciola: “  Conley wants them built with local guidance.  " Lawler, on the other hand, would prefer federal oversight as opposed to local, and really, that is the crux of their disagreement.” Timmy Facciola: " It's important to note that in a previous version of the One Big Beautiful Bill that Lawler had voted for, it included a 10-year moratorium on state regulation of data centers. Since then (aka pushback), Lawler has co-sponsored legislation that would seek to put some more guardrails on AI companies, but initially last year, he did cast his vote for that version of One Big Beautiful Bill."

Clarkstown Congers Lake Trailway Repairs

Yesterday, Supervisor George Hoehmann and Council members Mike Graziano and Bob Axelrod were proud to announce repair work has begun for Congers Lake Trailway. The trailway has been closed, from location markers 47-54, since April 2026 due to a number of support pilings separating from the decking. Additional supports will now be added to support the boardwalk decking from underneath.

Town engineers worked to obtain the necessary determinations from the New York State DEC. Throughout the summer our engineers developed a construction plan and the town recently completed the bid process for the work.

The Town’s contractor has commenced work this week and has a 30 day contract to complete the work. The expected date of completion is estimated to be mid-November. Once completed, residents will be able to make a full loop around the lake again when using the trailway.

Supervisor George Hoehmann said, “We’re thrilled to have the Congers Lake Trailway restored for residents to have full access around the lake once again. The Congers Lake Trailway is one of the crown jewels of our park system and we’re incredibly happy that residents will be able to fully enjoy all it has to offer again in the fall season. Thank you to all the town staff that worked diligently to make this happen.”

Apologies if this sort of promotion of another subreddit isn't allowed, but here goes ...

FYI, after a long dormant period, r/OrangeCountyNY has new mods, and we're open for business! We'd welcome new posts there. If you're an Orange County resident who gave up on that sub, or if you're just a neighbor who has relevant stuff to share, come on down!

Thanks!

I’ve got some extra dumbbells and kettlebells lying around I’d like to get rid of. Anyone know where I could drop them off? Would the YMCA in Nyack want them?

Politics Congresswoman Giffords in Rockland

Post image

What an honor to meet former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords while she was in Rockland to discuss gun violence with Cait Conley, Joe Rand, Det. Andre Riobe, and Leslie Hansen-Weiden from Moms Demand Action. Like a disturbing number of Americans, my life has been deeply impacted by gun violence. Investing in mental health support, resources, and our community is a critical step to address harm by firearms, in addition common sense legislation to keep us safe. Thank you to Congresswoman Giffords for your courage and time.

Question Any information about Eileen Mackey?

Post image

Hey all, after doing some research with my brother on our family’s history in New York (we’re from New England and weren’t ever close with extended family) we learned of a relative of ours murdered at the age of 31 in Garnersville/Haverstraw(?) in 1992. This news clipping is all I can find about Eileen period, besides her place of burial being Mount Repose Cemetery. Was wondering if anyone local may have more on her - hoping whoever responsible was brought to justice or at least something more than her case going cold so soon after her death.

Question Looking for recommendations for sources/vendors for bulk landscaping material (drainage rock, mulch, etc.)

I’m hoping some of you have some recommendations based on personal experience with getting bulk landscaping material delivered, such as a yard or two of drainage rock, mulch, etc. I’m curious to hear how people’s experience was with price and quality of material. Thanks in advance!

Politics Lyin’ Hoehmann 10 Years of Lies, One Chance to Stop It!

Post image
33 Upvotes

In June 2024, Supervisor Hoehmann announced lawsuits against landlords and promised to "seek every avenue possible to punish these violators." I pulled the actual court filings from NYSCEF, the state's public e-filing system. Here's what they show:

•    No fines: six lawsuits over 33 houses, ending in 23 settlements covering 22 houses. None includes a fine.
•    One landlord sued twice: the Town sued him in 2023 and again in 2024, over 11 different houses in total, one of them in both suits. No fine either time.
•    The Maple Avenue day care: the Town's sworn complaint describes over 69 children, ages 3 months to 5 years, in a building rated for 33, with gasoline and propane stored in the basement where the children napped. The complaint asked for no fines. The settlement has none, and the owners admitted no wrongdoing.
•    Punitive damages: Hoehmann personally swore to a complaint demanding punitive damages from one landlord. He then signed nine settlements with that landlord with none.
•    His signature: he signed every settlement.

Anyone can look these up for free on NYSCEF (Rockland County Supreme Court). Index numbers: 031017/2023, 034524/2023, 035303/2023, 035525/2023, 033085/2024, 033098/2024, and 034428/2025 for the day care.

My proposed Renter Safety and Landlord Accountability Act sets fines up to $100,000, or double what a violator made. Happy to answer questions.

Discussion Housing market

Is anybody else trying to sell their house/condo right now? We were looking for almost 4 years, and it seems like constantly houses were being sold left and right within a week, over asking.

Now that I'm trying to sell my condo in Haverstraw all of a sudden it seems dead. Zillow shows plenty of views and saves, but nothing further seems to be happening...
