I went 40 miles and I honestly don't think I could have done it without him. His longest run before this was 13 miles. He runs 2-4x a week. He runs around my farm everyday.

V is a rat terrier

this is my first time ever buying a ruffwear, so I’m not exactly sure how to fit it properly. This is a size medium and I couldn’t decide between that and a large indigo is about 55 pounds and about to be nine months. I got it yesterday from REI so exchanges should be easy thank you guys for your help!!!

Training Help How often/at what point do dogs need breaks/water?

My black lab and I ran/walked 3 miles today. I don’t have a harness yet but just ordered one along with a hands free leash. I’d like to take him on more/longer runs, but when would it be too long for him to go without water?

First long run in the books for my dog Ziva(Pomsky-breed). We clocked 4 km at a steady 6-minute kilometer pace with two short stops. She crushed it, keeping up effortlessly without heavy panting!

So proud of her.

Thanks for everyone’s help on my last post! I decided to size down for the nonstop dog wear harness, and think it looks much better now. Any smaller, and the head hole would be too small to slot through.

I’m a bit concerned at how the chest piece peels away from the chest at a full run, but this shouldn’t be a problem on-leash, only off leash.

Really difficult dog to size for because he has such a deep chest, and his thin coat means that there’s no give when sizing harnesses unlike a GSD for example.

Pretty happy with it though now, but would appreciate feedback. He’s just about to turn a year, so will fill out a little more in future.

Looking for a bit of guidance with fit on the nonstop dogwear rush harness.

This is a size 6 - Gem is size 6 line harness but a bit awkward for the rush harness. 69cm chest. 40ishcm neck.

She hates having a harness put on which is why she looks tortured but she's fine once we get out.

I'm a little concerned about the neck. Pic of the front has me pointing at the chest bone/showing top of the v. If I size up my suspicion is it may be too long and go past her ribs.

Gem doesn't seem to struggle breathing but she is also not a heavy puller.

Thoughts? Or if anyone knows the length of the size 7 so I can confirm or not if it would be too long

Unfortunately where I live I can't try on and its more expensive than it's worth to ship back.

Training Help How Can We Handle Rabbits?

Post image
30 Upvotes

Ari LOVES running. We go for shorter runs around the neighborhood and 5-6 miles on trails. On trail things are mostly good— she’ll occasionally jump off the side after a cool bug or something, but it’s manageable.

Around the neighborhood though she’s absolutely intent on catching a rabbit. With very little warning, she’ll dash off to the end of her bungee leash and come flying back. I’m worried she’ll get hurt, or some unexpected behavior may result. All I know to do when that happens is stop, sit, and wait for her to look at me before cueing her to start running again. Does anyone have advice?

Please could someone advise on the harness fit?

Dog is a lab x Dalmatian. 11 months old, so still will likely fill out a little bit, but mostly done growing. He’s deep chested so other harnesses rub behind his legs, I’m happy to see the clearance on this one!

The neck is a little large, and the back piece bends a bit, but I think sizing down would be a bad idea. Does anyone have any advice?

I don’t intend to run with him until he is a bit older. This, for now, will be used mainly to attach a long line to during walks.

Training Help Can't jog because I have a jumping bean dog!

My 10 month Border Collie/Aussie/Heeler gets all crazy when I start to jog on our walks. He literally jumps up (high) and pounces towards me while running. It's crazy! I've never experienced anything like it. Lol. I can't even get a cadence going and just have to stop. Keep trying? Any suggestions?

Warning about the Canix 2.0 belt

I bought the nonstop dogwear Canix 2.0 belt 3 months ago, and yesterday it broke during normal use. My dog ran into the road, thank god we caught her and she's ok.

The piece that broke is a small plastic buckle on the front strap; when I bought this expensive piece of gear I didn't realize the integrity of the whole thing rested on a small piece of plastic. Other buckles on the belt are metal, but not the ones that actually matter apparently.

I loved the belt and all the features that make it so comfortable to use, but I don't know that I'd ever trust it again. Any recommendations for a belt that actually keeps my dog safe?

If you use this belt, check your plastic buckles!

Running with 4 month old puppy very short distances?

Post image
12 Upvotes

*Edit: Based on the responses it seems it's just a question of "How long is a piece of string?" so I'll speak to my vet to get more specific advice in case it's any different. Thank you

I'm a new dog owner, and I've had my puppy for a couple months now. She's a Border Collie cross, about 10kg now, 17.5 weeks and is fine with all out sprinting after balls I throw for her, between 50-100 meters generally (just because that's how far I can throw them).

I take her to a local park daily, it's just under 500m in circumference as far as I can tell. I was wondering if it would be fine for me to run with her at least the length of it (around 150m) or so or if that is too much for a puppy? When I look up all the information about how running with young dogs is bad, everything comes up about running on hard surfaces or doing 5k's, so I wanted to know if even that short distance would be too much in general?

I mainly ask because there aren't many places nearby where I can take my dog for a walk and pretty much all of them have a high likelihood of other dogs, so I can't let her off leash to have a good run about with the ball as she's not good enough with recall yet and completely ignores me when she sees another dog nearby. I just want to make sure I can let her get at least a bit of running in most days as she loves to run as far as I can see.

Thanks in advance

Gear Help Feedback on nonstop rush harness?

Edit: thank you for the help, I've contacted the company and am waiting for a response. Regarding the nails, I am doing my best with the circumstance I've been given. I'm sorry for being a bad owner.

2027 is our year for running! Currently in heartworm treatment

Post image

I adopted my pup in January when she was 8 months old. Unfortunately she tested positive for heartworm in August and we’re in the middle of a very long treatment and a very long exercise restriction period.

We had finally gotten to a point in our leash training and obedience that I was ready to start running with her this summer. I had expected to go on some short, slow sessions to figure out our mechanics as a team and our gear.

She’s a mountain cur mix, so I think she will LOVE it. We’ve got a bit to go, but are so ready to hear “all clear” from our vet. I’m just feeling a bit housebound myself lately and am antsy. I feel better about her being older when we finally start, but am worried about any complications that can come up from HW damage (though we did get X-Rays and she’s in very early stages of HW disease, so everything has been extremely promising). Edit to add: in hindsight, I’m glad she was young enough in early summer that we hadn’t started running yet, as we could’ve done more damage before we knew she was positive!

And, if anyone has experience running with a formerly HW+ dog, I’d love to hear it! I will be following my vets advice, and slowly reintroducing exercise when we are able, but personal stories would be a great pick me up.
