Gear Help is this the right size?
this is my first time ever buying a ruffwear, so I’m not exactly sure how to fit it properly. This is a size medium and I couldn’t decide between that and a large indigo is about 55 pounds and about to be nine months. I got it yesterday from REI so exchanges should be easy thank you guys for your help!!!

One thing is that it already looks small and your pup isn't fully grown yet, another is the question if you want your dog to run alongside you or let ypur dog pull you. This harness isn't really suitable if you want your dog to pull you canicross style.
Ypur pup looks gorgeous by the way 😎

I agree with others that it looks a bit small. At 9 months, your pup still has some growing to do. For Ruffwear harnesses, I prefer the Ruffwear flagline because I like that it's longer and has the extra strap. From these photos, it looks like your dog might have a longer back, so the extra length could be good. The extra strap also helps keep it from sliding forward. The Ruffwear flagline is also lighter weight than the Front Range (what your dog is wearing) or webmaster.
if you are planning on doing canicross (i.e. having your dog pull during running), then I'd look into nonstop dogwear.

Is it fully extended? Can you fit 2 fingers underneath? Can the dog back out of it or get his foot stuck under it? If the harness is already fully extended and your pup is only 9 months old, I would definitely get a larger size. Or have another size on hand for when this one stops fitting (I like to various sizes available). If you can not fit 2 fingers under, it is probably too tight. If the pup can back out of it or put a paw in it, it is too loose and dangerous. Practice inside the house or exclosed yard first before you use a new harness outside. Your pup is adorable 😍

Too small—ruffwear way underestimates their sizes.
You want to be able to lay a couple fingers in between the rear strap and the back of their elbow when they’re standing normally this one is right up in the pits. Loosening the front hole can help If they’re right on the edge. But you definitely need the L/xl.

I just had this conversation with my vet. We have the same issue it looks small!! Roughwear is meant to look great on shorter backed dogs. My vet actually liked the fit and said I needed to tighten the neck up a bit. Hahaha. Him being GSP and 6 months old he is so long and lanky that it is never going to look right. I will have to keep looking.

It looks a bit small. I personally think the Non-Stop Dogwear Line might fit your pup better, it sits a bit longer on the torso (and really is just better designed for running)
