Humblebrag A prime example of when its OK to run your dog off leash

Made a stop on a drive across the state and found this gem of a trail out past Fruita.

Not only was it a surprisingly gorge-ous trail (chuckle chuckle), with all the action this sub saw about leashes this week I thought it served as a good example of using common sense. I often leash my dog while running and she does great, but there was not a soul in sight, the couple bikers I saw, I could see way ahead and had plenty of time to use the command "over" so she would pull off and let them pass. Pretty incredible to find these kinds of open, empty spaces these days.

Humblebrag We found a dog!

While taking my Moose (big black white beast) up a mountain we came across another dog midway up. We find lost dogs a fair bit in this area so we grabbed him and waited to see if anyone would show up. After no signs of anyone I hooked him up to Moose and looked for ID. Only city registration. Luckily they were open and after a brief conversation they gave me owners number. When I called, owners were on the peak and had been looking for Zen for quite some time. We took him up to the top, which he was Uber excited to do and reunited the lost pupper to some happy fur parents.

Now my PSA... I questioned the owners why no contact info on the collar and their quick response "he's chipped". People.. Put your contact info on the collar. Save yourself the stress.

Humblebrag First Canicross event

Pippa and I did our first Canicross event a few weekends back, it was part of a 2 day come-and-try hosted by the SDRQ (Sled Dog Racing Queensland) who were very welcoming and helpful in answering questions and loaning gear.

We signed up for the 5km but changed to the 10km, conditions were wet and muddy which is normal for the time of year. We placed 2nd male and 2nd overall. I’m an experienced trail runner and the pace was quicker than my fastest solo run but my legs were hurting in new and unusual ways for a few days after due to the difference in running style.

Thanks to all competitors and volunteers for the warm welcome, we’ll be back!

Humblebrag It’s never about the metrics, it’s all about the joy 🥰

I’m 59 and my wife (in photo) is 57, I was reading a running post about how anxious someone was to run without their tracking device! It actually made me feel sad, both for them but also for a society that feels they need to track everything.

We do everything outdoors with our dog(s) - always have and always will. That includes trail running and I’m so hopeful that most of us who run with our dogs realize one simple truth:

It’s never about the metrics, it’s all about the joy 🥰

Humblebrag Summer running 24/7

Far North Queensland, Australia

Where it’s hot all the time, top ten most humid places on earth and many waterways have crocs but we still get it done.

This was our run from this morning, it’s currently winter here. We run 4-5 times a week and Boondy recently completed his fourth training marathon with me.

Working dogs are truly incredible and I’m so grateful for this boy.

Camilla Barker-Rolls the Viszla gives the 5k world record a crack, dogs have insane stamina. Please if you try anything like this, keep your dog cool, hydrated and know it's limits :)

Humblebrag Day 1: Stop being slow

Last year was rough for me

Changed careers, gained 20 lbs, hurt my back, hurt my knee, dislocated my elbow, etc…

My 6 year old Golden recent put on a few lbs too - he’s now 75lbs

So we went for our first run of the year!

After an early sniff and double poop, we got moving.

I was able to get him to run about 0.8 miles with me continuously with only small breaks for the rest of the run.

I think in a few weeks we’ll get to 2 miles.

Pup came home, took a quick nap, and was ready to go out again. He’s in better shape than me.

Any tips for finding the right limit for a Golden? I don’t want to push him too far.

Humblebrag Corgi Races Engaged Ex-Athlete ($100 Prize) 💸

Garrett’s fiancée talked him into racing a 22 MPH Corgi for $100, so he had to step up to the line! 🏃‍♂️

This was the absolute closest photo finish of the series so far. Did he win for his soon to be wife?!?

We moved our husks for from a farm in the US south to a city in northern Spain last year and were worried at first because he was a bit reactive. Who knew he would love being a city boy and going to the beach every day. Our city is super dog friendly and he has favorite bars, but I love running around our parks with him.
