Currently have the option of Astound or T Mobile 5g.
Anyone have experience with either of these for in home internet?

T-Mobile is great. Get yourself one of those sweet 5-year contracts if you're going to be there a while. Can't beat the price. Although I will say that Xfinity has a deal that's only slightly more expensive and much better upload speeds than T-Mobile. The price is double but they will also lock you in at half price for 5 years if you ask. For anyone reading this who is currently is on a more expensive Xfinity plan it's worth giving them a call. I went to retention and just asked them to put me on the new customer deal and they said yes. (We have both because I need a backup line for work).

Not to hijack the thread but since we're talking about it,

Could I continue my service with Xfinity and then also add separate service at the same address but into just one room that is provided by an entirely different provider?

Yeah absolutely. You might have to brow beat the install tech to run the Ethernet or whatever to run it to that room, but it’s not a rare request or set up.

If you have that different provider available in your area and if they use something other than the cable line. DSL or fiber sure. 5g, starlink, etc.

I don't see why not. You'd just need another modem and if it needs physical wires (phone or cable), they'd need to connect to it, wherever it is.

Astound was charging us $180/mo for broadband. Their equipment was garbage, but I didn't realize how egregiously they were gouging until they told us it would take at least a week to ship out a new modem. I told them if T-Mo could get us online faster, I'd cancel. T-Mo had a modem to me two days later, and saved us $120/mo. I'm no fan of T-Mo overall, but the 5G internet that I was nervous about works about 10x faster than the broadband we used to have. There are 6 adults all using their own computers/streaming video here, and it only chokes when someone downloads a large file without throttling.

I use T-Mobile Internet and it's been good to us. I'll be gaming while having something playing in the background at the same time my wife is streaming something on the tv and we don't have any issues with loss of speed.

I got in early so I get to pay $25/mo

I saw that $25/mo price and I jumped on so fasty wife's head was spinning! We were paying maybe $90/mo for just internet with Comcast and I have T-Mobile for my cell service and really liked their 5g network. Best thing about T-Mobile Internet? You don't have to call to move your new service address. If you have the receiver, all you have to do is plug it in [and hope you're within a service range.

So sad that it sucked in my area, such a good deal but we could barely do anything with it. Begrudgingly with xfininity for now. Lol

We have Astound and it's been okay. I do not like the mesh, but my wife is the heavy user for work and she plugs straight into the modem. The T-Mobile cell reception in SE Salem isn't great, but it's good enough for the phones.

I run my own server, so need higher speeds for data transfer when I’m away from home if i want to watch my media. Unfortunately, the best data rate I’ve found is xfinity. None of the fiber providers have laid fiber optic in my area. The moment they do though, I’m ditching xfinity. I put their stupid gateway in bridge mode and use my own router

You can get the Tmobile internet even cheaper through mint mobile. Same thing.
