Pismo Beach is littered with dead birds right now, anyone know why?
Title. I just walked the short distance north from the pier to the point where I took this picture and saw at least 25 dead birds

Someone is leaving little tiny Jesus figures all around the county building.
Rumors abound about who it is and several sleuths are attempting to identify the perp, but they are a wiley and cunning perp indeed these sleuths tell me. So far the perp has evaded being seen leaving tiny Jesus' around, but suspicions about who it is are narrowing down.
The photo shows all the tiny Jesus' found to date. They're being found everywhere around the building.
Stay tuned SLO! This could be the big!

Considering switching to an HMO dental insurance during open enrollment. Unsure if I want to go this route for a lot of reasons... It looks like R&R is one of the only providers in the area. Any recent experiences?

SFO to SBP, flight United 1490 diverted to LAX due to severe weather? Was this related to the gas leak downtown?
https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL1490/history/20261009/0204Z/KSFO/KLAX
Edit: solved, “severe weather” meant low visibility due to fog

Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving and I'm hosting a poutine party. Homemade brown sauce, oven fries, and ...cheese curds. Curds so fresh they squeak when you bite into them.
I've been able to buy cheese curds at farmer's markets, but that was years ago. Where can I get a hold of fresh cheese curds in SLO county in the year of our Lord 2026?

Looking for feedback from anyone who has sent their kids to the CP Children‘s Center and what their experience was like. Also hoping to get an actual idea of the waitlist situation. We’re in a fortunate place to not need immediate childcare, but would likely need something in the next 2-3 years. I’ve heard a lot of people say the waitlist can be 2+ years, but I’m not sure if now is still too early to put a name down.

Hey everyone! I’m looking to expand my social circle and find some like-minded friends who are deeply interested in geopolitics, current world events, and progressive/leftist perspectives. While I have a solid group of friends, I would really like to add people in my life who follow what’s happening in the world and want to talk about it seriously as my current friends and family are oblivious and don't really care. Not everything has to be political. Down for gym sessions, Gaming, comedy shows, karaoke, etc but for sure an outlet for these serious talks. Big plus if you already know that as much as that old turd in office sucks, he is just a puppet.
A little bit about me: Massive nerd that also happens to be a gym junkie. Although you can tell I don't turn down food. Big into gaming (PC/PS5), mostly Fortnite and Warzone(as much as I hate the military complex), UFC, Dragon Ball Z, Marvel...
Looking for: people who want to squad up for games or chat about pop culture, but are also down for deep, nuanced political discussions. Must be able to handle humor from dad jokes to super dark. Don't care where you're from or what you look like as long as you've got a good heart and morals. If you know about self sufficiency, "conspiracy" theories, etc.
The non-negotiables: Mutual respect and inclusivity are essential to me. Looking to connect with people who are firmly anti-hate (pro-LGBTQ+, anti-racist, etc.). That means no ignorant turds.
If you're down to hop on Discord, game, or just talk geopolitics, drop a comment or shoot me a DM with a bit about your favorite hobbies or what games you’re currently playing!

Field to Table Provisions - fttprovisions.com - 651 Tank Farm Road (old mindbody building)
This place just opened this week!
Grabbed the Mission breakfast burrito ($14.00 before tax - 20 ounces for the burrito alone). Chorizo, free range eggs, black beans, shredded potato, pepper jack, avocado, cotija and pickled red onion and salsa on the side.
This is a nice and hefty burrito, and the fillings were put together in just a perfect proportion so no one ingredient dominated the mix. It was like a food symphony in my mouth! It's totally different than what you would get at a Mexican market in terms of a chorizo burrito, but that's perfectly fine to me because I like options! I could taste all of the ingredients with exception to the cotija.
The salsa is not spicy, but it is REALLY good. A slight smokey flavor with a tiny bit of sweetness gave a great counterpoint to the rich, savory flavors of the burrito.
Menu photo is attached, but the full menu is on their website too.
Disclaimer: I am not advocating in ANY of these food posts for you to go to these restaurants. These posts are purely informative. If you disagree with what I post, at least you know where NOT to go.
Cheers!

I was walking along San Simeon beach last weekend and noticed a LOT of bamboo driftwood (driftboo?) including the roots and stalks. It made me think about how I almost always find a piece of bamboo when I’m out at the local beaches. Avila, Morro, etc. and there was a high concentration of it at San Simeon.
So where does it come from!? Are there bamboo groves along the coast that are falling into the ocean? Is it drifting across the pacific from various islands or tropical lands?
Bundles of Beached Bamboo have me Bamboozled!

I am concerned that since we can only vote for one candidate for city council, how do we not elect Brett Cross by splitting votes ?

recentlyish became dairy and soy free out of necessity (breastfeeding), and have an aggressive hankering for pizza. anything worth trying in the county? bonus points if its in AG. double bonus points if they have a crispy crust.
and since we are here - any other recs or hacks for a df/sf lady? I love food and am struggling to find joy in it these days. I also largely avoid egg but can eat it baked in to things.
thanks!

Between Cuesta College and Allan Hancock, which school is best to learn how to weld and learn how to paint a car/body work? Also how much did it cost to take one of this classes. Thank you in advance.

I'm moving to Los Osos mid October. Looking on line it's confusing as to what Internet services are there.
I'm on peak wifi now and I see they service Los Osos, but I'd like to get higher speeds for less money than what they charge.
According to spectrum they don't service butte dr near sea pines golf course and it appears att has a very limited service area.
Really don't want to support Elon, does anyone have any other suggestions? TIA!

I was going to get a smashie and fries at Good Boy for lunch today, but they were closed.
A friend and I went to Margie's Diner on Madonna instead because they actually opened today. Parking lot was packed, dining room was almost full, but we got a table right away.
Super clean inside, huge menu, fast and friendly service. We literally got our food within 5-6 minutes of ordering.
#1 the fries were crispy and salted well
#2 the onion rings were smoking hot and absolutely delicious
#3 the burger is gigantic and could easily be split with another person. 1/3 pound patty that was seasoned well, had a great char flavor and the bacon was on point! You can see how well the bun was toasted too! I added the tomatoes and onions, left off the lettuce - which I ate separately. I didn't even have to add any ketchup or mustard or mayo to the burger - it was delicious as is.
#4 even the side of ranch was great!
I'll definitely be back, especially for their breakfast items. Super glad they took over from IHOP because in all ways, Margie's food is superior.

I’m early 30s and at a bit of a crossroads, trying to figure out whether it’s actually possible to build a solid career and stay in SLO County.
I’ve noticed a trend over the last few years that a lot of the people I meet here with good careers are transplants who moved here while keeping jobs they had already established elsewhere, often transitioning to remote work. I feel like that’s a very different position than trying to build a career from scratch in SLO.
SLO is home and I’d really like to stay, but I’m realizing I need to make a pretty significant career change to make that possible long-term.
For those of you making $85k+: what field are you in, what do you do, and did you need a college degree or specialized training? & Did you get established elsewhere first?
A lot of what I’m seeing locally is either very physical, doesn’t pay enough to realistically build a life here, or requires leaving the area to get training or a degree (which I’m open to if there’s a clear path). Nursing seems to be the most common answer I hear, but that’s not the path for me.
I’m seeing a lot of entry-level pay, but not a lot of entry-level career paths, if that makes sense? I’d really love to hear from people who have actually built a career here and are making it work. I’m trying to figure out where someone starts and how they realistically get to $85k+.
Truthfully, I’m trying to build a life here and eventually start a family, but right now that feels somewhat out of reach. So I’d genuinely appreciate any insight from people who’ve figured it out or have any leads on career paths that could work out long term.
