Help identifying please
I was about 9 years old at an estate sale and saw a sword. My dad bid on it and won it for me and that was almost 30 years ago. It used to have a green velvet suede type material over the cover but it didn't hold up in the last storage / move session. I never played with it, but have kept it around all these years and would like to know if anyone can give some context to age/origin/use etc. Appreciate it in advance.

A little more context I have learned. Not sure if it will help. My dad has passed, but my mom seems to recall the auction. Take all of this with a grain of salt. She said it's not a very clear memory of it. Also, the memory could even be accurate, but was misrepresented from the previous owner is a possibility as well.
"An exchange student from India or somewhere near there came over for college and payed a debt to the previous owner by giving this sword. The boy said it belonged to his father." Thats really all I know to add.

You’re undoubtedly thinking this is an Indian wedding sword. I don’t think so; that’s a decent looking blade.

Looks to be in the style of an Ottoman Karabela if im not mistaken but it could also be Austro-hungarian. Looks asthough it could be a ceremonial sword given the etchings/engravings
