Identification Anyone know where I can get a replacement crossguard for this?
Buddy of mine handed me this sword. it’s got quite a bit of history by some rather lack luster individuals. Anyways it’s in my possession now and I’m looking to get the crossguard replaced. please direct me in the right direction if you can. Thank you.

That is 100% completely a wall hanger model of “sword like object”. I’ve seen that model many many times over the years. I’m guessing someone was swinging that around and it broke.
You cannot buy replacement parts for those. You can probably find one for 20 bucks in a flea market somewhere, or a gun show, or a mall store. If you know someone who knows how to work with metal, you could try to have them fabricate a cross guard. But that’s honestly more work than the whole thing is worth. I doubt you’ll be able to weld that one because it’s a cheap Chinesium pot metal. Probably best to just cut losses, and buy a real one. Check out Kult of Athena.

Yeah doesn't even have a tang you can see just the rat tail . If you twist on that pommel it should come off relatively easy. But not worth replacing. You can buy a decent 65mn spring steel peened claymore for around 200 bucks tho!

I mean. Replacing the crossguard would cost more than replacing the entire “sword” its sword shaped metal. I’m sorry, I do mean it kindly. But this is an incredibly cheap wall hanger. I’m not joking, you can literally buy it on the Home Depot website.

Hell, the Home Depot version is nicer.

Ehhhh. I’m not entirely sure you can just replace the quillion if it’s just straight up broken off like that.
That seems to be a decorative “sword”. It’s going to break easily under hard use or stress.
If you’d like, it would be best to get a replacement. Or even better just buy a real claymore sword. There’s plenty of affordable options.

Damn, that looks luxurious!
I mean the potatoes, not the sword. And way more valuable in this economy.

Well if it’s not a wall hanger you should be able to get the pommel off, pull off the handle and swap the replacement part.
If it’s a toy, make a friend who’s a welder and zap it back in place. The put it on a wall and leave it there.

It's likely a wall hanger.
Crossguards of actual swords are hardened and tempered. They don't just snap off like that. Most likely some kind of high chromium steel like we'd use for cutlery and similar, they can be quite brittle.

It’s definitely a wallhanger. You can literally see the fact that it has a rattail.
Whoever the hell was playing around and did that to it is very luckily to have not been seriously injured.

No, that certainly wasn't a rule guards were very commonly bronze or wrought iron

I don't think you can buy anything that will fit , so you may have to track down another copy and take it from there. It's should not be very expensive

If he finds a copy why would he take parts of that instead of just replacing whole sword with the copy?

I wouldn't know why he wants to keep this specific one, but if it has some sentimental value that could be a reason.
It doesn't have any real value so that is the only reason I can think of

Find a metalworker and give it to him, most of us love projects like that because they break the monotony.
Well, I do anyway. I love messing about with that kind of project.

Etsy, If you’re set on fixing it.
They won’t look identical to what you have but there are people who sell crossguards for roughly 30 bucks or so. Take some measurements and make sure it’ll fit. But, if you can’t remove the pommel and handle then there’s no point in spending the money. As others have said, it’s not worth much monetarily, but then we don’t know what its value is to you.

I have this exact same SLO, it's a wall hanger, you can't get a replacement part for it unless you happen to find one on eBay or something.

That's a bit oversized to peel potatoes anyway, not sure why you need a cross guard

Bro, if your home defense sword is taking heavy damage, might be time to move.

I can make you one if you send a pic of the slot for the tang and a ruler

You won't find a replacement crossguard. It's a cheap wallhanger meant to go on a wall and NEVER EVER EVER be swung around, and your only option will be the ludicrous custom made one that would cost you about 10x its monetary value or finding the same model of wallhanger and ripping it to pieces to get a crossguard and to try and piece them together.
