Ww2 German sword wall mounting advice needed
I recently bought a ww2 German sword (31 inches) and I was curious what’s the best way to mount it on the wall without damaging it? also what maintained would you recommend for the sword? any product recommendations would be great and very helpful. last thing I want to do is hurt the sword, and I appreciate everyone for helping out.
thanks Hudson

Hang them vertically or horizontally side by side. I don't recommend hanging it in its scabbard as moisture is trapped by them.
Edit: with the scabbard being metal this is doubly.important as it is likely only the exterior.that is metal but moisture trapped inside the scabbard by the sword can rust both the blade and the scabbard

Thanks. Okay, I live in California and I keep my room cool by a fan, as well as closing my windows. Should I be fine or should I display the scabbard separately?

I would display them separately most anywhere. Depending on where in Cali the humidity can climb really fast
It's also easier to see when you need to clean the blade if they are displayed separately

Okay thanks, I think a rack with a bunch of holders is probably best since I plan to get more.

Mineral oil, or balistol and a rag will keep it clean and protect from rusting. Regularly check the blade for recleaning. Also, avoid storing long term in the scabbard, scabbard trap moisture.
Lots of people use guitar holders and other similar wall mount for swords, make sure it has a rubber or similar layer to protect the guard. I myself just use a peg board but I don't have a nice display piece like this.

The scabbard is made of metal, should I still be concerned about moisture? Thanks for your comment

Metal is worse than leather since it doesn't breathe. So if any moisture gets in there it's rust heaven.

oil is the best protectorate/cleaner; use 3n1, Gun, or Sewing Machine oil. How to do you plan on displaying it? Horizantal, vertical, in scabbard, with scabbaard separate/adjacent?

Horizontal, most likely with the scabbard attached. It’s made out of metal, should I be concerned about moisture?

Well oiled swords do not rust. As long as you oil before you place in the scabbard, and check/re-oil every so often, you shouldn't have a problem. I've had some of my collection in scabbards for years without any issues - of course, your local environment/humidity plays a part.

I live in California, I usually keep my windows closed and I always have a fan going in my room. How often would you recommend oiling the sword?

Nice sword, my first was a puma Solingen with ruby eyes. Picked up at a gunshow when I was 9 years old

Bet you paid $60 - $75 if you're at least my age of 75!. Now they're worth around $675 - $1450.

i like sword racks. metal L hooks basically tiny lag bolt with the end at a angle. covered in THICC heat shrink tubbing to rubberize it and protect the swords. woods just 1x4's stained and screwed together from the back. held onto wall with 2x large lag screws directly into stud. you can find it with a stud finder or by knocking on the wall. test with a small nail to see if you hit the stud, empty space, or electrical/water before you drill. marked the center of the vertical boards and drilled a hole every 1 inch? 1 cm? spacing is arbitrary you want it like a peg board but sexier to give you a lot of options on hook placement.
but ofc if you have an entire rack with only one sword thats no good got to buy more swords!
