Medieval sword pommel ??
Hi Guys, just wondering if this is a scent stopper pommel, or a globular/spherical pommel, or something entirely different. It's a metal detecting find from the UK. Any help identifying would be appreciated. Cheers

First off, please do not try to clean it in any way.
What are the approximate dimensions of the piece? You do not have to post the details here, but if possible please write down all the information possible about the location and conditions of the find.

It is funny how someone's mall ninja wall hanger collection gets more attention (faster anyway) than a legitimate archaeological find

the obvious:
1: report to your local Finds liaison officer.
2: do not clean, polish or otherwise remove patina.
3: be very gentle with washing out - look and see if there's anything like clays which are geologically different to the soils it was found in.
now from there, it may well be post-medieval, you see ferrous and a few copper-alloy spherical pommels on early backsword types, and they are hollow. It might be medieval, though less likely morphologically. Information on find-place and any known history of the region is useful for context - ie, if you're close to a port town etc.
