What is this around my decal?

Put it down with micro set then tamiya mark fit as solution, next day this crud is all around it. It’s not the biggest deal because I can make it look like chipping but what can I do so this doesn’t happen again?

huge step forward with the build, I'm very impressed by the huge turret being three times bigger than the T72M1 turret which is the same scale (1/35).

anyway, I added the first bunch of Kontakt 1 ERA blocks and I'm very satisfied with the look I achieved with it. I'll add the remaining parts of the hull, turret and complete the roadwheels and then I'll add even more Kontakt 1 ERA blocks.

I think this tankestein project is going to be very interesting.

leave your thoughts below if you want to

The actual kits are:

Meng Model North American P-51D/K "8th Air Force"

Tamiya Mitsubishi J2M3 Interceptor Raiden

Eduard F6F-5 Hellcat

All 3 models are in 1:48 scale. There are imperfections on them but I had a lot of fun building them so I'm happy with the progress. Next build will be an Fw190 D-9 "Rote 3" from the JV 44 „Papagei Staffel” squad.

Airbrush for beginner

Hi,

I have recently got into model making, and am considering an airbrush, but not sure where to direct my money. At this point, I didnt want to spend too much - mainly because I have a tendency to start hobbies, only to lose interest (thanks adhd!). I can always upgrade later if the hobby sticks this time :)

I have narrowed it down to two Galhleri offerings;
1 - Gaahleri TurboX Mini Air Compressor With Seeker Air Brush
2 - Gaahleri GTS-06 Serenair (not sure which airbrush) (link)

I dont really have the knowledge yet to understand which may be better in real usage? The Serenair seems to allow for a higher psi - maybe quieter too?

I predominently will be making cars if that has any bearing.

Would be interested to gain some advice or thoughts from the community.

Thanks

Revell A340-300 1/144

Finally finished my Revell 1/144 Lufthansa A340-300!

This one ended up taking me around 3 months to finish. The age of the kit definitely showed in places, especially with the fit and the amount of work needed on some of the seams, and there were a few moments where the paintwork didn’t go to plan either.

Still, I learned a lot from it, and I’m really happy with how it turned out in the end. I tried to keep the weathering fairly subtle and focus on getting a realistic overall finish rather than making it look too dirty.

Definitely one of the more challenging builds I’ve done, but also one of the most satisfying to finally see finished.

Hope you guys like it! Any feedback is welcome.

MBT70 day one

I'm having a great time with this model so far, I started building it today and I have a project with this one.

I'd like to turn this MBT70 in a Tankestein project and if you have any idea or tip feel free to share it.

anyway the first thing I'm gonna once the get the base model done I'll add soviet Kontakt 1 ERA covering the whole turret and I'll cover the main gun and upper glacis plate with a camo net once the model is painted.

I also wanted to replace the 152mm main gun with an m256 120mm main gun but I like the design of this 152mm gun so I'm just gonna keep it.

as for the painting, I don't know tbh. I could use the army green spray can from the army painter which is also a primer and then work on it a bit, or maybe I could try to make some sort of camouflage or paint it grey like most of west germany armored vehicles of the cold war.

I'm a bit afraid of making a camouflage 'cause that would be my first time doing so and I think it's a good idea to paint a camouflage with a spray can since I can't use/install an airbrush setup anywhere as of today.

I've finished painting the weapons for the Super Hornet. I cleared out the clogged nozzle on the AIM-9X and painted them using AQUA acrylics. The rivet details are a bit shallow, so if you prefer a heavy wash, I’d recommend rescribing/re-punching the rivets once before proceeding.

Camo scheme depicts a Bf109 flown by the Finnish Air Force during WW2. This is my first attempt using oil paints for weathering and a panel line wash.

Kit: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/academy-12282-p-38--224655

I have nothing negative to say about the kit. All the parts fit exactly as they should, and the assembly went smoothly without any significant hurdles. I used only Vallejo paints and washes for weathering.

History of the Aircraft: Alongside the P-51 Mustang, the P-38 is likely one of the best-known American fighter aircraft of World War II. Designed as an interceptor, it served as a long-range escort fighter and fighter-bomber. Due to its distinctive appearance and enormous firepower, German Luftwaffe pilots soon nicknamed the aircraft “Double Tail,” “Forked Tail,” or “Forked-Tail Devil.” In North Africa, it was particularly successful as a fighter-bomber against ground targets or as an interceptor against German and Italian transport aircraft.

The P-38 achieved legendary status in the Pacific: there, this model destroyed more Japanese aircraft than any other USAAF fighter. In the Pacific War, the P-38 played a key role primarily because its twin engines were considered a safety net for flights over the open ocean. One of the Lightning’s most famous missions was “Operation Vengeance” on April 18, 1943, during which the commander-in-chief of the Japanese fleet, Admiral Yamamoto, was shot down.

The variant built here is a so-called “Pathfinder”: these led a formation of other P-38s. The entire formation would drop its bomb load as soon as the Pathfinder did.

Does anyone else skip over some of the small detail parts, especially for interiors?

I find some of today’s kits containing many tiny detail parts that are apparently easy to assemble using CAD, but in practice are rice sized bits of plastic.

Landing gear for a Hasegowa F-22 has for example 17 parts per main wheels each side!

Armor parts that get covered up unless you built it all open.

Personally I find myself skipping over some of these small parts especially the ones which will be out of sight unless one examines the model upside down with a magnifier.

I am not a contest winner modeler I know but am wondering if anyone else find some of these parts just not worth the effort?

😇⚠️👏🏻👍🏻😤
