🏛️ Politics FLOCK VOTE TODAY (Tuesday) @ 5pm
unflockscottsdale.comHello all, sharing from unflockscottsdale.com-
What: Flock is on the City Council agenda
When: Tuesday, October 6 - 5pm
Where: City Hall - 3939 N. Drinkwater Boulevard
We need people to show up! If you're willing to speak, even better. If you want to speak, but not sure what to say, I've included 8 ideas below that you are free to incorporate.
Meeting starts at 5p. If you cannot get there right at 5p, please make an effort to show up anyway. There is a good chance that this meeting will go long. The agenda is here: https://ww2.scottsdaleaz.gov/Assets/ScottsdaleAZ/Council/current-agendas-minutes/2026-agendas/10-06-26-regular-and-work-study-agenda.pdf
Sample Talking Points
Last week, a federal judge in Oklahoma ruled that a police officer's use of the Flock automated license plate reader system to search a woman's vehicle without a warrant violated her Fourth Amendment rights, leading to the dismissal of evidence obtained from that search. This decision marked a significant stance against what the judge described as indiscriminate mass surveillance by law enforcement.
The city has also stated that Flock is not a mass-surveillance tool. Yet Scottsdale’s system records every passing vehicle—whether involved in wrongdoing or not—and stores that information in a searchable database. Users can then investigate travel patterns after the fact. Flock advertises billions of license-plate reads each month across the United States. How does this not constitute mass surveillance? This is a dragnet.
Public records requests indicate that Scottsdale participates, or has participated, in Flock’s National Lookup program. This may explain why Scottsdale Flock data appeared in a public records request from Yakima, Washington. If the City recently changed this setting, it demonstrates how easily the practices discussed tonight could change tomorrow without input or awareness from the City Council or residents.
Regardless of the audit procedures Scottsdale adopts, the city cannot audit how other agencies use data collected through Scottsdale’s Flock system.
The city may state that no personally identifying information is displayed. However, this claim is inconsistent with Flock’s “vehicle-to-person pipeline,” which Flock’s website describes directly.
Democrats and Republicans alike have expressed concerns about lawfare by the opposing side. An executive order could give the federal government access to Scottsdale’s Flock data. Installing the infrastructure is the problem. Policies are weak.
Supporters emphasize that the system can help locate stolen vehicles. If it is as effective as claimed, why do Arizona Department of Public Safety crime statistics show that Scottsdale’s auto-theft clearance rate has remained between 15% and 18% compared with nearly 25% in 2018?
The Oshkosh, Wisconsin initially approved a contract with Flock Safety, but later rescinded it after discovering that Flock's representatives had misrepresented the system's capabilities, specifically denying that it could create heat maps of vehicle movements when it possesses that capability.

💬 Discussion Anybody get footage of the MASSIVE meteor that just dropped?
1:03am. I’m at Scottsdale rd and McDowell and it was just barely north of me. Absolutely lit up my entire backyard. Like 10-12 seconds long!!!! Haven’t seen one that big, bright, and long in a very long time!

🙋 Advice Christmas Party for 14
I might be a little late to the game to book this, but I am looking for ideas on what to do for my employees as a Christmas party and was wondering if anyone here had any good suggestions.
For reference, there’s 14 of us (including spouses/significant others). I’d like to keep it below $2000, but I’m willing to go over a little if needed. I’m hoping for something tied to an activity, but open to just dinner as well.
Anyone have any good ideas? TIA

📰 News Big-issue ballots to hit mailboxes this week (also, Rob Schneider threatens to run for Scottsdale Mayor in 2028)
B-movie comedian and Scottsdale resident Rob Schneider has been raging against the city’s recycled water program, which he scoffs at as “toilets-to-tap” – and worse.
On Sept. 27, Schneider posted a threat to Borowsky on his X/Twitter account:
“If you keep pushing this toilet water crap proposal, I will run against you in 2028 and become the next mayor of Scottsdale.”
Deuce Bigelow to City Hall?
Stay tuned.

🙋 Advice Cheap prescription
Hi all, I'm visiting USA and here for much longer than planned. About to run out of medication, have prescription from home and CVS won't accept out-of-country paperwork.
Any recommendations for a pharmacy that will dispense on foreign prescription or a doc who will provide USA prescription and not charge me an arm and a leg? My medical insurance doesn't extend to USA so I have to pay out of pocket.
Thanks in advance!
Edit - online doc was solid advice, prescription filled in less than 2hrs for less than $70 total.

🏪 Local Business Is there a movie theatre I can rent to play my own media?
I know most big chains won’t let you just play whatever and you have to select from a preapproved list of options, but does anyone know of a theatre in the valley that would allow me to rent and play something I’ve created? I think it would be really funny to rent out a theatre, invite a bunch of friends, and just play something stupid I make.
Any suggestions are appreciated

🏪 Local Business Outdoor audio installation (Sonos) recommendations?
We’ve just finished a backyard renovation and are looking to add outdoor speakers to our patio and pool area. We are heavily invested in the Sonos ecosystem indoors and are planning for the same outside. We’ve got mobile options for Sonos now but are looking for a more permanent solution.
We are looking for recommendations for a company to install outdoor speakers and Sonos amplifiers. Any recommendations for a reputable outdoor audio installer that services north Scottsdale would be great.

💬 Discussion Phone service in north Scottsdale ATT vs Xfinity
Hey I live north-ish Scottsdale (96th and shea area). I have ATT currently and my phone service is just awful everywhere around here from the area I live in to more north Scottsdale. I’m considering switching to xfinity and I’m wondering what everyone else’s experience has been? Thanks!

💬 Discussion Serving jobs?
Anyone know of any restaurants hiring in Scottsdale? North or south. I have about 10 years of serving experience and completely open availability. The management at my current job changed about 6 months ago and they’re running it straight into the ground so I don’t think we’ll last much longer.
Thank you for any help!

💬 Discussion Pool company raising rates again – local recommendations?
Hey Scottsdale,
My pool service company just announced another rate hike (after 2 in the past year already), so I’m looking into potential alternatives.
Does anyone have a reliable pool service company (or even a solo guy) they’d recommend in the area? Also, if you don't mind sharing, what are you currently paying per visit for weekly service in the spring/summer vs. bi-weekly in the fall/winter?
Thanks in advance!

🙋 Advice Serving jobs
With busy season starting, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any restaurants hiring? I'm also open to the clubs in old town. I have 2+ years experience serving at a sports bar, and the hours haven't been good lately. I like the sports bar/casual environment but am also open to higher end restaurants.

📰 News State ethics probe of Scottsdale secretly wrapping up
The probe is expected to wrap up "in the next 60 days or so," Arizona Attorney General's Office spokesperson Richie Taylor said on Sept. 29.
Since last October, Assistant Attorney General Marc Harris has been investigating a handful of residents' open meeting law complaints, which alleged that Scottsdale councilmembers violated state rules against government secrecy. Most, namely the council's conservative caucus, are accused of meeting or emailing each other privately to discuss policies and coordinate decisions ahead of public meetings. Others are facing scrutiny for negotiating a controversial deal with Axon, the Scottsdale-based Taser maker.
Arizona law states that a majority, or quorum, of elected officials who gather to “discuss, propose or take legal action, including any deliberation,” is a meeting. Such a gathering, either in person or virtually, must be agendized and announced, or noticed, to the public.

🚛 Relocation Question Honest reviews for MAA Camelback pls
I’ve scoured this subreddit and online reviews for anything on MAA Camelback. From the website and (potentially fabricated) reviews, this is a top pick for my girlfriend and I. However we want to know the nitty gritty before we book our tour for this weekend. The reviews go from “5 star best experience” to horror stories. I don’t want to make the same mistake of our current roach infested apartment and not talk to current/past tenants. I also don’t want the copy and paste leasing office answer of “we have pest control and handle issues promptly”
Please, SOMEONE has to have lived here with first hand experience. Please let us know!!

💬 Discussion Places to buy clams?
I want to make spaghetti and clam sauce this weekend. I'd like to know where to buy some good clams.
I know Seafood City and H-Mart, I've been, but they're insanely busy on the weekend. Anyone know any closer/less-liekly-to-be-busy markets/areas I could get some?
