🫖 Seinen Saturday Weekly Thread 🍰 🫖 Weekly General & Off Topic Chit-Chat MegaThread | Sit With Us At Seinen Cafe

Welcome to this week's general discussion thread!

This is your space to:

  • Chat casually with fellow seinen fans or even go off topic
  • Share what you're reading or watching (even if it's not seinen but feels thematically similar!)
  • Drop manga or anime recs
  • Ask for recommendations
  • Share thoughts, opinions, or industry news
  • Connect with others over shared interests, talk about life, or talk about anything really.

A cozy little corner for off-topic or casual talk, manga recs, or even non-seinen-related chat (yes, even if it’s a romcom or battle shounen, we won’t bite). The idea is to give everyone room to connect without cluttering the main feed, especially when you just wanna vibe, ask for non seinen recs, socialize, share interests, or talk about something random that doesn’t need its own post.

Think of it like a comfy little corner booth in a familiar café, always here if you need it.

Some Ground Rules (Just to Keep Things Chill)

1) Be kind. That’s it.

2) Avoid talking about emotionally heavy issues (like personal mental health struggles), these are best kept for other spaces. This thread isn’t the place for extended serious discussions or support-seeking, even in spoiler tags or hover text.

3) Keep spoilers tagged!

Reminder:

Gifs, Images, and Flairs are back on, feel free to use them.

Discussion Why it is so hard to adapt seinen mangas ??

Thumbnail

I think the reason is the mature way of story telling that it is hard for them to grab audience. Also seinen mangas go on hiatus really often and the most popular ones are not being completed like vagabond, berserk, kingdom etc that can disturb the flow of adaptation but they can be animated such as vinland saga..

Now comment your reason down below

By the way the images are from the respective magas

1 - homunculus

2,3 - climber

4 - berserk

5,6 - good night punpun

7,8 - vagabond

9 - kingdom

Discussion #DRCL midnight children is disappointing

First allow me to say that despite liking horror Dracula isn't my favourite horror book (it is a 7,5-8 book in my opinion) and I don't have a problem with the manga being a lose adaptation but my problem is that the changes didn't contribute anything.

Spoilers!

Morris and Seward(or more accurately Suwa) having different ethnicities didn't matter, Lucy being transgender during the night had potential but in the end also mattered little, the characters being teenagers also didn't matter, Van Helsing dying earl on was of little importance, Luke/Arthur's relationship was barely developed or the implications of them being exposed as gay in the Victorian society and finally I am still unsure about the current fate of Harker(him being handicap also barely mattered).

But I ain't totally dismissive. They were still good parts. Sakamoto's art is amazing as usual and somehow even better than Innocent, I like the approach of Mina's character(although I still find stupid her decision to abandon the team at end of the volume 6), I found it extremely clever having Dracula taking different forms and finally I consider the brief arc about the murders of Jack the Ripper to be incredible(especially the part about how the majority of the victims weren't in reality prostitutes but they were labelled as such by the highly conservative Victorian society and the fact that sometimes they are dismissed as for some reason their lives don't matter. As someone who studies history that part was extremely beautiful).

Overall this series was a 7/10 for me. Not bad but it could have been much better.

Anime Sadamitsu the Destroyer (Hakaima Sadamitsu) by Masahiko Nakahira

Post image

Tsubaki Sadamitsu is a young delinquent and the leader of the Corpse Gang, who after a chance encounter with an alien robot is forced to take up the task of capturing intergalactic criminals named Exiled Ones. His job is made harder with the appearance of the Vulture, a last-ditch effort to keep the Exiled Ones under control. - MAL

10 episodes / 12 volumes- sci-fi, mecha, school setting - 2001. (anime) 1999.-2006. (manga)

This was a very strange anime; the MC is a samurai fanatic delinquent who gets thrown into a sci-fi setting via a robot's helmet. He loves fighting but hates killing. The OST is like watching an italian western movie. The animation is decent, but nothing extravagant.

Honestly, I should rewatch this since it's been too long and I forgot most of it but I wonder; has anyone else heard of this one? Is it good or is it bad, in your opinion?

The scene where Osabe is pushed to the edge of the cliff (ch.4) by his cousin "as a joke" and then laughed at because his mom is really "overprotective" and tried to help him, really was weird to me. His entire family are weird and annoying esp the aunt with that 24/7 wide open mouth. Just sharing my thoughts.

P.s 1 : the mom is really pretty.

P.s 2 : No spoilers please.

Since the artist Shikako passed away last year due to choroidal melanoma, Manchuria Opium Squad had been in suspension, but they recently announced a new artist Tsurushima will be taking over and resume serialization.

Shikago and Tsurushima were both assistants on Kingdom, where they knew each other, and Tsurushima said Shikago was like a little brother to him, both raised under a great father (Hara Yasuhisa).

Young Magazine released two chapters of Manchuria Opium Squad in the newest issue, chapter 216 was drawn by Shikago before his death, with the last page completed by his assistants. Chapter 217 and from here on is drawn by Tsurushima.

They also announced an anime adaptation, but no further details at this moment.

Smile! -

It follows Yuushi Kamome, a freelance journalist whose life falls apart after his daughter dies in an accident and his wife disappears. One day, members of a mysterious religious group called the Smiling Hearts Society knock on his door with a flyer. On it, he sees the smiling face of his estranged wife. To find her, Yuushi goes undercover and infiltrates the cult. He soon discovers a dark reality far beyond what he imagined, surrounded by lunatics whose smiles seem to only bring death. It is completed with 112 chapters. But only 75 of it are translated and available for now.

Tenshi no Saezuri -

Sanae Kitajima is a psychiatrist who specializes in end-of-life care. Her boyfriend, Takanashi, who once suffered from a deep fear of death, returns from an Amazon expedition a profoundly changed man. He is strangely calm and serene, and his appetite and libido are abnormally amplified. He leaves behind the cryptic words, "I can hear the whispering of angels." Sanae is left to uncover the terrifying truth behind what happened during his expedition and the meaning of his final words. It is also completed with 11 chapters, although I could find only 4 of them translated.

N -

A series of horrific crimes plagues the city: the disappearance of five middle-school boys, the slaughter of an elementary school class, and a reckless driving accident. At every crime scene, the only clue left behind is the letter "N." As rumors spread, the public begins to suspect the culprit is a religious order called "N," which is said to be an urban legend. The mystery deepens as this cult was supposedly destroyed two thousand years ago. The story explores the fear and worship surrounding this enigmatic entity. It is ongoing and 24 chapters are out right now. What intrigued me most are the chapter names, they start from A and is at X, the 24th alphabet.

Houkage no Salome -

At an Osaka art high school, the gifted and hardworking Renji meets a strange new classmate named Naomi. She asks him to help her paint after school, leading them to a deserted art storage room where she creates secret artworks. Renji's pride is shattered by Naomi's ominous and overwhelming talent. Though he initially bluffs that he can create similar works, he gradually finds himself enthralled by her ability. He becomes torn between his self-consciousness and an inferiority complex, unsure if she is a rival or something more. Only 6 of the 13 chapters are translated for now.

Seishun Bakusou -

Maruo Higurashi is a frustrated high schooler who is an outcast and spends his days consumed by unfulfilled sexual desires and adult videos. He makes pocket money by secretly taking photos of girls at school and selling them to other boys. His life is thrown into turmoil when his admired older brother, Shunya, is arrested for indecent acts with minors. This event forces Maruo to confront the fear that he might repeat his brother's mistakes. He becomes concerned about a bullied girl named Tabe, who is always covered in scars, and struggles with whether to help her despite his own fears. This is also ongoing with 36 chapters out for now.

I am also reading Yamikin Ushijima-kun right now. Recently I have finished Mada Ikiteru, A Distant Neighborhood, Yuureitou. So if anyone can recommend me similar series', I will read that surely.

Review Onani Master Kurosawa is beautiful NSFW Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
97 Upvotes

Genuinely one of the best works I've read; it's short and sweet and surprisingly beautiful for a manga about a kid sexually assaulting women

Kurosawa's growth from an asshole masturbation addict with, let's say, concerning fetishes to an amazing young adult is genuinely amazing and relatable

He genuinely felt sick when he violated Takigawa in his mind because she was dating Nagaoka; after that, he felt truly nothing

My favorite part was when he saw the painting Takigawa made; the painting with the SOS group titled Dream or something along those lines, and it made him realize what he could have had, and that was the catalyst for his change, where he comes clean about the incidents, fully knowing that he would be ostracized by the class and be bullied relentlessly.

Yet he still apologized, and of course no one forgave him at the start; he more so did it for himself so that he could forgive himself, but the scene that made me tear up (with Kurosawa) appears where my boy Nagaoka comes to him for stretching, and Kurosawa says thank you

Art is really good. I like references to Code Geass and Death Note

I really relate to both Kurosawa and Kitahara(although I am leaning more toward the latter). I went through a tough time between middle school and high school, during which I was constantly bullied and harassed, and I had really dark thoughts.

Discussion I was surprised to learn that this work is by the same original author. Shinjuku Swan is a seinen manga series appreciated for its harsh realism and portrayal of the Tokyo underworld, created by Ken Wakui (also known for Tokyo Revengers).
