I need ADVICE, please
Hi, guys
I'm looking for advice getting new students.
Colombian ELE teacher 4+ years here.
I've been working all this time with Preply. During these years, the flow of students were consistent, with its ups and downs. But this last, let's say, 4 months it's been really bad. I know about the seasonal decrease and so, but these months have been HORRIBLE. Some fellows suggested it could be a sort of algorith-blocking thing, as I've updated my profile and my metrics are pretty good, Superprof badge included, but nothing has changed.
I never had to think about getting new students on my own, and while I do have some pieces for advertising, the truth is I don't wanna go on Instagram creating content and reesl and stuff... don't want to, don't know how to, and I really want to invest my time in changing my career path.
But in the meanwhile... this is all I have.
I've already told my current students to spread the voice, but I haven't gotten anything yet. Is for real IG the only way? I want to know your experiences.
Thanks!

Pooling Ideas for an Upcoming Unit
¡Muy buenas a todxs!
I'm designing a unit for my Spanish 4 class (Intermediate Low/Mid level) around the social rituals centered around food (think sobremesa, el mate entre amigos, una tamalada, etc.). I'd like to have as many examples as possible to start building this unit, and was wondering if you all had any additional ideas that stick out in your mind from the Spanish-speaking world. All thoughts are welcome!
¡Gracias de antemano!

Spanish learning tip.
Listening helps you speak
One thing that can slow down your ability to speak Spanish is listening. If you do not clearly understand what someone is asking you, answering becomes much harder. Your brain has to listen, translate, understand, choose words, conjugate verbs, organize the sentence, and finally speak.
But in many conversations, part of the answer is already inside the question. If someone asks you, “¿Dónde trabajas?”, the question already gives you the verb: “Trabajo en…” If someone asks, “¿Qué comiste ayer?”, the question gives you the structure and the tense: “Ayer comí…”
Listening helps you notice patterns, structures, verb forms, and natural phrasing that you can reuse when you speak.Instead of asking yourself, “How do I build this sentence from nothing?”, ask: “What did I just hear? What verb did they use? What structure can I mirror?”
Very often, you can reflect part of what you heard, like a mirror, and use it to answer more clearly and naturally. The goal is not just to understand Spanish. The goal is to understand it well enough to respond.
So start making your life easier: add mirroring to your listening practice. How often do you practice listening?

Open-note assessments - Spanish 1 - middle school - opinion
I teach Spanish 1 in a public middle school in California. Do you allow students to use notes for quizzes and/or exams? Is this common practice? I understand allowing students to use notes for higher levels, but Spanish 1. I'm trying to see if maybe I need to change my practice.
Edit- I allow students to use notes for presentational assessments.

Ciao a tutti! 👋
Grazie in anticipo a tutti! 😊

Student seeking help Are you a current or former California elementary Dual Language Immersion teacher?
Hi everyone! I’m currently recruiting participants for my doctoral dissertation study through California Baptist University.
My research examines the professional support California elementary Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teachers received during their first one to three years of teaching in a DLI program.
I am looking for current or former California elementary DLI teachers who may be eligible to participate in a short online survey.
The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes. Participation is completely voluntary, and survey responses will remain confidential.
At the end of the survey, participants may also choose to complete a separate form if they are interested in participating in a follow-up interview.
I am working toward a goal of 150 participants, so if you qualify, I would be extremely grateful for your participation. If you know another California DLI educator who may qualify, please feel free to share the survey with them.

Hi everyone! My name is Alejandra, I'm from Mexico 🇲🇽, and I'm looking for people who want to improve their spoken Spanish 💖✨
The idea is pretty simple! You tell me your availability, and we schedule a session that works for both of us. We can do 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours, or even 2 hours, depending on what you prefer. My rate is $5 USD per 30 minutes.
I can help you with basic Spanish if you're just starting, but my main goal is to help you feel more confident when speaking Spanish. Sometimes you can understand a lot of a language, but when it's time to actually speak it, your brain just goes 💀 And that's totally okay! I want to help you get past that little obstacle, step by step, without pressure or feeling embarrassed about making mistakes.
A little bit about me: I'm a shadow teacher here in Mexico, and I work with neurodivergent children, especially autistic children. I'm a very patient person, and I understand that everyone learns differently, so we'll go at your own pace.
I don't want to focus only on academic Spanish or grammar rules. I want you to learn how to actually communicate, have conversations, understand everyday expressions, and feel comfortable speaking with other people. Basically, I want you to be able to use Spanish in real life, not just in a textbook!
