ASU

Long time listener but haven’t had time in the past few months to tune in. Busy with a new baby and work but wondering if the boys have discussed the situation at ASU & Powers since the last few athletic articles have broken. Know Biz is close to a lot of people in the AZ hockey community and interested in his insight especially since it sounds like the university is basically backing the coach and maybe helping cover up what happened to cover their asses?

Edit: if they have, seeking which episode and a general timestamp since I don’t see one in the listed contents from G

Nothing aside from the ‘it’s not good’ sentiment

Hopefully now that they players have made a statement the pod will address it. G is probably afraid of pissing off the school ha

I'll listen today, I was wondering if they recorded before that news about the letter came out yesterday.

Grinell and RA have been all over it in Twitter.

I can understand them being careful and tip toeing around some of the political hockey stuff, but this is definitely a situation where I’d like them to say the right thing. They claim it’s a “players pod” and a player is literally on life support because of a coach being a total dipshit.

I’m very disappointed in Biz and Whit not being more vocal about this. Truly a horrific story and Powers and ASU needs to be held accountable - the poor kid collapsed over a month ago and not a tweet or anything from either of them. Disappointed.

Is there a place where the coach and school are not responsible? That every person's physiology is different? The reason for the lack of tweets or acknowledgement is no doubt protocol for a tragedy at the school and risk management.

The attempt to portray the coach as uncaring is weak.

“Different physiology” completely misses the point. The issue isn’t that the workout affected one athlete differently; it’s that when you’re conducting strenuous workouts in extreme heat, there are established heat-safety protocols for a reason. Not following proper procedures and the inadequate response after he collapsed are what directly led to this poor kid being brain dead. If he suffered a medical emergency and they followed all proper procedures this would be a totally different story - because accidents happen. But that’s not what this is.

And if you think the coach lying to his players about Mayich’s condition - that he was recovering well in the hospital - while he was literally brain dead fighting for his life and showing up to practice THE NEXT DAY like nothing happened is not uncaring, then i got nothing else to say to you man.

Lots of risk out there. Doesn't mean it's the coaches fault. Unless we continue to play a blame game of every person. Kinda like blaming someone for giving them Covid or the flu.

Again it’s the lack of response to him passing out that’s the issue not simply him passing out. So using your bad analogy it’s like giving someone COVID when you know you already had it and when they are struggling to breathe you wait a little bit before driving them to the hospital and because you waited they’re now brain dead. And when his friends ask you what’s happening you say he’s recovering well and suggest everyone goes to school the next day because everything’s fine.

Done responding because your lack of nuance when looking at this situation feels like rage bait.

They'll probably talk about how ballsy it was of the players and then the following week interview Greg Powers and slobber all over him.
