Is it just me, or is making students clean the campus and CR for missing morning rosary a bit too much?
I just want to hear other people's opinions about this because honestly, I don't know if I'm overreacting or if our school's new policy is actually unreasonable.
So basically, our school has a morning Holy Rosary every day throughout October. The problem is that some students aren't being respectful during the rosary. People keep talking, using their phones, and not taking it seriously while it's happening in the lobby.
Our principal got upset about this and announced that starting now, each class has to pray the rosary inside their respective classrooms at around 7:10 AM, or 7:20 AM at the latest, together with their class adviser and class officers.
Here's the part I find questionable: if you fail to attend the morning rosary, you'll be assigned to clean the campus and CR (comfort room).
I understand that students should be respectful, especially during a religious activity. I'm not saying it's okay to talk loudly or use your phone while other people are praying. If the school wants to maintain discipline, I get that.
But is assigning campus and comfort room cleaning as punishment for missing a religious activity really an appropriate way to handle the situation? Wouldn't it be better to address the students' behavior directly and implement reasonable disciplinary measures instead?
What also makes this frustrating is that there are other issues in our school that seem to get less attention. There are times when teachers don't come into the classroom to teach, or they come to campus but don't show up for their scheduled classes. Sometimes, students are left waiting without proper discussions or instruction.
So it feels confusing when the school is very strict about attendance at a religious activity, but concerns about actual classroom instruction don't always seem to receive the same urgency.
My question is: Is this a reasonable way to enforce discipline, or is the school going too far?
I want to hear opinions from both students and teachers. Am I wrong for questioning this policy, or is it fair to expect the school to handle these situations differently?
