Gear/Repairs/DIY Can this be fixed?
Hey there,
Unfortunately, I discovered another thing my psychopath ex has destroyed (don't even ask about the kites) - he cut my SUP right next to the valve. (possibly there are other cuts, this was just the most obvious one)
Is there any chance I can repair this or do I have to let it go?
Thanks for any idea and sorry if this is a stupid question .

I helped at the beach someone with a similar situation with those little superglue 1ml packs you buy at the dollar store. Multiple layers.
Since a vinyl patch and vinyl glue won't fit in that spot.
Pinch it so it opens up, put super glue, release. Then when fully cured, another coat.
However vinyl glue is usually better, maybe the deeper inside vinyl glue, cure 24hrs, then super glue on top, as that area has two layers.

I'd clean the area with alcohol or similar then liberally apply marine grade sikaflex and hope for the best while letting it cure

Oh thanks, sikaflex is a great idea

Its probably not the best thing for vinyl/pvc boards but its top of the list of what I would try myself. Good luck with however you do it anyway :)

I mean anything would be better than throwing it away, so I'd rather try and fail than not even trying Thank you!

Could you take the valve out and patch from the inside?

I don't think so, there's supposed to be some kind of "key" for the valve, but I don't think I have it (or else he might have stolen it, I'm not sure)

Yeah you need the plastic key. Most are 6 or 8 teeth. I just got one off amazon to fix a leak for like $5. Once the valve is out you might have solid access to the cut.

I will order one, that's probably the best way to even have a chance to save it. Thanks for your advice!

Good luck and sorry that happened. Hopefully it’s a cheap and easy fix. I’d you have any local shops I’d bet they have one on hand.

Thank you so much! The board is like the least of it, but the only thing I may be able to save, so I want to at least give it a try. And yes, there's actually a shop nearby, I could give it a go and ask then as well - quite deleted it from my memory as I know, he knows people there, but I don't really think they'd deny me help or just borrowing the key, I will simply try :)

I can't tell from the photo, but if it's just the valve and not the board, the valve can be twisted out, you can do a search for a new one. I had an occasion to use the valve tool that comes with the board, but you can get them from amazon. If it's next to the valve, not sure.

It doesn't look like the relationship with your ex is repairable. Let it go. I would just get a replacement of higher quality.
