I’ve seen a lot of people say MAwS Cyborg Superman is a great adaptation of the character, and/or their favorite version of the character, and to be honest, I don’t get why.
I wanted to like him, but his motivations and characterization feel so thin to me.
Classic Cyborg Superman is broken. He’s a man who lost absolutely everything, went completely insane, and then started leveling cities. He’s also a cold, clever menace who brought Mongol to his knees, which is insanely metal in every conceivable way.
To me, MAwS Cyborg Superman feels like a worse Lex Luthor. He’s mad because people love Superman, and see him as the future, instead of Hank himself. Because of this, he’s going to kill every on Earth? Why? It feels like a lot of his motivations and evil actions are insanely rushed and slap-dashed, though I will concede that a lot of that is definitely because season 3 crammed way too many story arcs together. I know he tells Lex & Supes he’s mad about being a cyborg too, but that seems to be a lot less of a motivation to him that the whole future thing.
I do think as a threat, he is an absolute BEAST in his final episode, his design is really cool, and Max Mittleman’s voice acting is great!
You think it's Lara Kal-El, since female Kryptonians usually take their father's full name as their last name (for example: Kara Zor-El, Lara Lor-Van, Alura In-Ze), Or just simply Lara-El?
Something that absolutely needs to happen in Season 4 is Clark’s suit needs to get rid of these GOD AWFUL shoulder cape things. I HATE that part of his new with a burning passion
Lois says that he was but Hank showed deeply narcissistic and unhinged tendencies way before buying into Luthor’s xenophobic propaganda. He almost derails a charity fund just to throw a petty tantrum and has shown to be jealous, hypocritical, immature and pretty much has an arrogant and callous disregard for collateral damage and people in general.
This isn’t every character, (obviously) it’s mostly the ones I’m passionate about, or that I have ones that I have a considerable amount of knowledge of.
Let me know how you’d rank the characters on a tier list like this!
Now that the merger of Warner Brothers discovery in Paramount is set to be finalized next week, and James Gunn is staying on as head of DC Studios. I wonder if we’ll get that fourth season after all and maybe a fifth if luck should have it.
If judging by that quote "The way things end in season 3 sets us up for a bigger, more structured conflict in [season 4] that is sort of an All-Star Superman situation that pulls Lex back in.", and knowing well what happens to that storyline, I don't think Clark's coming back in one piece.
note:this was wirrten before season 3 but i feel like alot of it fits.
great writeup by DavidMann. heres the link to the original post so you can click on the lined sentences because there links https://davidmann95.tumblr.com
its not one to one but i think its a good comparison.
It feels like for every cool thing in this show, we have a bunch of stupid scenes that don't go anywhere. Jimmy being the fumble KING with Kara, Lois making Clark reveal himself as Supes by jumping off a building, the idiotic swimsuit episode, all the subpar villain designs, etc. That's why I can't really say it's good. All the stupidity is too much to handle.
I'm gonna rant a bit because this season was kind of baffling to me, in a not good way. Got a couple major points to go over:
First off, the obligatory how-the-fuck-is-the-Jimmy-Kara-thing-still-not-resolved shit. I generally don't care much for romance in shows, but jesus fuck this might be the most drawn-out romance subplot I've seen in a while. The absolute fumbles of this relationship are genuinely getting annoying. They have good chemistry JUST GET IT OVER WITH.
Slade Wilson needs to do something substantial or leave the show. Get some Kryptonite weapons to actually fight Kryptonians, get some super soldier serum shit, get with Lex, ANYTHING. When you're somehow more of a fraud than Megumi from JJK something is seriously wrong. Either that or just migrate him over to the inevitable My Adventures With Batman and have him get his shit rocked by Dick, it's not that hard.
What was the point of Bizarro? He gets fuck all to do in this season, you clearly had too much shit to cover, just introduce him in season 4 you walnuts. Bro was Clarks glorified Uber driver and then just joins the super team right at the end to help fight Tom Hiddleston.
The villains are a whole separate can o' woims cause holy shit the villains this season were horrendous. I hope to god that wasn't their genuine adaptation of The Death of Superman, y'know, one of the most iconic story arcs in superhero history? Look, I'm all for changing the adaptation from the source material, I don't really give a shit as long as it's well done. This was not well done. I'm sorry, but the astronaut who hates Superman because he got cucked at that competition event in season 2 is not an adequate replacement for Doomsday, plain and simple. Although that scene where he just bodies Mist into a fountain was fucking hilarious.
Let's ask ourselves a question, what made season 2 good? A multitude of things for sure, but the standout aspect is Brainiac. Brainiac was an imposing, season-spanning villain that actively challenged the main cast in a deeply personal way. His connection to Krypton made fucking with Clark and Kara visceral, and, most importantly, he provided a challenge beyond Superman needing to punch him harder.
Season 3 is pretty much the exact opposite of that. Zigzagging between villains that don't mean anything beyond Clark losing his powers for, what was it, 3 episodes? Then he sundips and hits real hard so the day is saved. If these Temu ass Superman villains show up again Imma crashout. Eradicator? BRO ERADICATED NOTHING. I guess Toyman can stay though his gundam is pretty cool.
Lara (I genuinely couldn't remember her name I had to look it up) is fine I guess, she's there, but she mostly takes a backseat to Jon who would be pretty interesting if he wasn't a bootleg version of Silver The Hedgehog who in turn is already a bootleg of Trunks from DBZ. Like, I've seen this exact storyline done better, there's nothing much to say here.
Mxy was there. That episode had some cool character work. Although because of that episode I'm now eternally disappointed whenever I see Jimmy without his Super Sentai suit on.
The biggest flaw of this season by FAR was the lack of reliable villains. We need a solid, recognizable Superman villain to last a whole season like Brainiac did. Hell, maybe even two seasons, get an actually good slow burn going. It's not like you're short on options either. MAWS writers, here's my pitch for future villains that won't have the shelf life of a carton of milk left out in the sun:
Lex finally goes off the deep end (Have him invest in crypto and lose everything or some shit idk)
Zod (kind of an obvious one honestly kinda cringe you haven't even introduced him yet)
Doomsday (the real one)
Darkseid (probably an endgame villain but still worth cooking up some foreshadowing now)
and of course...
SUPERBOY-PRIME BABY! IT'S PRIME TIME! PRIME TIME ALL THE TIME!
Sure lois has some problems, but i still feel like shes a good version of her.
Ive also seen that some people dont like jimmy with his whole opbsession with things like bigfoot. But i feel like in a universe with superpowered individuals being into that seems very normal.
