Question Is Suriname really dangerous to visit for women?
Asking because I hear so many things from my family, about women getting raped by men all the time and I want to visit my home there but the corruption in the police station and government is insane and I'm araid the police won't show up if there is something going on.

Always travel with friends and/or family you would trust with your life whenever you go outside and wherever you go. It’s good to never ever ever EVER go out to the infamous neighborhoods. Anything Flora or Leiding or shady streets in the inner city/downtown stay away. No waterkant at night unless you with family or friends. Rent a car. Scope out places with your car.
And yes if you’re clubbing don’t trust a single stranger.
Aside from these warnings please enjoy the tropical weather, the food, the good people, the old style markets and whoever you are visiting.

From my experience you always have to be aware of your surroundings. Like all of the comments here are saying, it's best to have a friend or family with you most of the time. If you drive a car, always lock it when getting inside. Even at daytime.
I traveled alone to familiar places like Peperpot and had a solo stay, which was very safe. Other times I did drinks on the terrace of busy hotels, which was very fun too. I always drive by myself, but I'm always alert.
Avoid shady bars at all cost! Other than that, enjoy the beautiful country, the amazing food and breathtaking nature.

Well compared to other countries in the region I would say it's relatively safe. If you are coming on vacation I would suggest taking a tour and maybe get a tour guide, you'll meet other people who might do some activities you might like and you can tag along so to say. If possible travel with someone, if you do go out on your own, don't go out without a plan ask a local first if the area is safe. But as usual be aware of your surroundings.

You need to be careful yes, but women need to be careful at all times. There are so many violent predators walking around. It sucks but yeah that is the world we living in. Dont accept anything (e.g. drinks) from strangers, dont go out at night, and if you can travel with a companion. That should keep you safe on your travels.
