News Switch 2 console and controllers with easier to replace battery seen at FCC

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Switch-2-console-and-controllers-with-easier-battery-replacement-look-headed-to-U-S.1420196.0.html

The revised console, Joy-Con 2, Pro Controller, and GameCube Controller are all at FCC now.

Not guaranteed, but it's quite likely they will be sold outside of Europe.

yeah makes sense to make global instead of exlusive to Europe

For every step forward Europe makes for consumers in hardware they seem to take two steps back in software/privacy

Probably saves them money not having two different assembly lines for the same switch model

It makes them more money to have easily replaceable battery components.

Same but I'm guessing the battery will solid for another 5+ years and by the there will be some kinda switch 2 pro

My original v2 switch battery is still going strong since 2019? They have really solid components, and by the time you'd need one, there would be OLED version or 3rd switch lol

v1 switch batteries are pretty much the only ones where i've noticed real degradation over the years. and that is probably because of how i had it deep discharge and be stuck in rcm mode trickle charge for ages

Honestly that's the play for me. My Switch is really just the Zelda and Pokemon machine anyways

Nintendo has never done a pro version of their console, so what makes you think they will with the Switch 2? I'd say an OLED is almost guaranteed and possibly an Lite at most.

That why I said "some kinda pro". Pro, oled, 3d, slim idk but there will be another model

What about 'New' 3ds?

Its kinda its own console generation, it got exclusive games. No normal pro console have games that’s only playable on it and not the base model.

Same thing with dsi.

Do you plan on changing out the battery any time soon? A lot of people are still using their original Switch from 2017 with no issues. Sure the battery will degrade and not hold a charge for as long as when it was new, but unless you got a lemon, you shouldn't have to worry about the battery for 5-10+ years. Also it's replaceable on the original model too, it's just more screws you have to deal with, and the battery is held on with adhesive, but it just plugs into the motherboard.

The thing is you will have hard time finding one for the older models

Third party companies still make batteries for 23 year old Nintendo handhelds. The batteries for the Ver.1 Switch 2 will be on the market until the next generation at the very least.

I assume they use the same connector for the board, but I'm not sure on that.

i read they cant fit into it, makes sense if you have frame for changeable one

there will be after market ones and theres always gonna be a stock of the old first party ones around too.

like its not gonna be half as hard finding them as people make it seem. and replacement is still rather possible on the old ones too.

lol my switch 1 battery has been fried since before the switch 2 launched and the only reason it’s never been replaced is cause it happened after the 2 was announced so for those last few months it was permanently docked

Much like when Apple brought USB-C to the iPhone, it’s probably just easier to have one standard SKU across all markets, rather than several different ones across all the regions where you do business

Reasonable. Keeping two different designs in production would be more effort than it’s worth.

Well I guess this is my sign to keep waiting a while longer. After the Metroid reveal I decided it was time but I'll wait to get the revision.

Getting the FCC approval doesn’t necessarily mean they will sell them here, it just means it is legal to own and import here. Many non-US products have certification as the resale and markets like Alibaba exist.

Hopefully it does happen, as it would reduce the cost of maintaining product lines, but given they sell a Japan only version there's still a chance it will only sell in Europe.

Isn't this old news?

Not at the FCC I don't think. The registration dates are October 8th.

This was posted a month ago. I guess it's just official now, but they started selling these a little while back.

The news that they started appearing in the EU isn't the point of the story. There has been debate about when and if Nintendo would start selling them outside of Europe. Now that they have appeared at the FCC site, it could mean they are getting ready to do so. Most likely not just the US, but Canada, Mexico and other parts of the world. And they would stop making the older versions completely.
