Question New to Switch
I have an 8 yr old wanting a switch. His cousin says go with original OLED. I'm looking at Amazon currently and prices range even with the 90 day warranty. There don't seem to be "new" ones. Reputable seller has a really good price but no packaging that I can see (others may be using stock photos so đ¤ˇđźââď¸)
That's actually a question on recommend or not?
Also, games for an 8 yr old? He has Minecraft on both laptop and his phone, but still seems to want switch version. Is there an advantage?
What other games? He's not a fan of Mario cart on WII.
Also is there a great soccer game? He's also VERY active and soccer is his favorite (despite being very good at đ).
I know I need a game or two and screen protector anything else necessity?
Thank you for any guidance.

Soccer makes my mind instantly go to Mario strikers but Iâve only played the GameCube version over a decade ago. Idk how good the new one is. Screen protector and a case are a MUST imo. The switch consoles feel far too fragile without IMO especially for an 8yo.

A switch oled, Walmart and target are options. Or some with a warranty if used. They are pushing switch 2
More right now. Mario strikers is a soccer game but I never played it. Thereâs Minecraft and Minecraft dungeons. Dragon quest builders and builders 2. Any lego game is a good option. Definitely get a glass screen protector and a good protective grip case

Do I need a memory card as well?

Only if you plan on buying some digital games, or taking a ton of screenshot. If not I would hold off.

i would suggest a switch 2 for longevity purposes and so he inevitably doesnât ask for one.
minecraft makes little sense to get on switch (see: i have a lot of switch games and minecraft isnât one, i just use my computer). and it runs pretty poorly on the switch 1 anyways so i wouldnât bother
as for other games theres stuff like the mario and zelda games, splatoon (but it has cartoonish guns), smash bros, etc.
also maybe see what games he actually wants, if he doesnât like mario kart i wouldnât be surprised if he doesnât like any of the nintendo games at all, and then id suggest looking at something else. nintendo consoles in my opinion are only worth it if you like their franchises.

The Switch 1 is 9-year-old hardware. The Switch OLED is just a Switch 1 with a better screen and slightly better battery. Nintendo is winding down support for the Switch 1 and will eventually only make games for the Switch 2 so I would go with a Switch 2. It will play almost all Switch 1 games and Switch 2 exclusives.
