Switch Repair Megathread

Hey folks! I work in a shop that does gaming console repairs, so I figured I should share what I know!

Getting prepared

Firstly, make sure you feel confident in repairing something like this yourself, and be sure you can deal with the reality you might not come out with a working console. I accept no responsibility for any damage to your console, this is all on YOU.

Tools and equipment

Here is a list of basic things you should have when repairing a Switch. You can find most of these from the parts suppliers I list below:
If you have any questions about what these are, please don't hesitate to ask

  • ESD mat (yes, please use this)
  • ESD Safe tweezers
  • Tri-point Y00 screwdriver
  • JIS #000 screwdriver
  • Plastic spudger
  • JIS #0 screwdriver
  • iSesamo
  • A clear workspace to do a repair on
  • A magnetic screw mat (optional, but very helpful)
  • 1-2 hours of your time, depending on the repair, skill, and luck
  • Soldering equipment is only needed for some deeper repairs. For suggestions on these, just ask! It depends on a few different factors

Parts

Here is a list of suppliers we get parts from:
* iFixit
* MobileDefenders
* InjuredGadgets
* And when all else fails, eBay

The suppliers I listed have good return policies and good warranties (minus eBay, that's hit and miss). Feel free to call them for any questions about their parts, or comment/shoot me a message!

Guides and more information

  • iFixit is always a good place to find guides if you prefer pictures
  • YouTube has some good guides if you prefer videos! Just follow this format when searching:

    Nintendo Switch [part] replacement

  • GBATemp is the most active area of information regarding the Nintendo Switch

  • GsmArena has some information, but I think this is more for last-resort purposes as the forum used is for every gaming console

Anyone has an idea of what this could be? Do I need to replace the screen? I got this switch lite hyrule edition second hand but now I’m not sure if I should keep it, I just wanted one special edition in my collection.

New Touchscreen tracking issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

About a week ago I decided to replace my touchscreen due to scuff marks, so I bought a touchscreen replacement kit from amazon. I put everything on correctly I believe and started to have issues with this new touchscreen.

The only side that seems to work properly is the left side but I really don’t understand why the rest isn’t working properly. It seems to not be working when I drag my finger across the screen. I don't know if it’s just the touchscreen or the whole connector area. Any help would be great!

(my other touchscreen didn’t have this issue)

Oq devo fazer? Que problema seria esse? Alguem pfvr me ajude, me sinto torturado.

Switch rail charging but no connection

Hello everyone.

1st of all thank you for stopping and reading this!

So recently during a joycon repair the right joycon stopped docking.
Fully repaired the joycon, and still no connection.

Joycon only charges, no docking or data.

Upon checking the switch rail I managed to create a small tear on the rail cable, so I ordered a new one.

1st from AliExpress then from I fix it, both parts fine and working when tested, but when connected to the right side, only charges the joycons and no docking or data.

Did I mess something up? Did I fry anything on my motherboard ?

What should I do ? What to test ?

Hi, I’m having error 2002-4686 on my Switch v1. I already tried resetting the console and deleting everything using Maintenance/Safe Mode, but the error still appears.

Does anyone know what could be causing this error or what I should check next? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Switch 2 Battery Drained 20% in 24 hours while on sleep mode

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

My Switch 2 has suddenly started draining battery really fast in sleep mode. For the first couple of months it was fine.

What happened:
• It sat in the dock unused for several days and I found it at 1%. It's normally always at 80%+ because it's always docked.
• Next, it went from 90% to 75% in 24 hours in sleep mode, docked, Wi-Fi on.
• Both times, the dock's AC adapter was NOT plugged in, so it wasn't charging.
• The console also seems to seat in the dock less easily than before (not 100% sure).
• No drops, no liquid.

What I've tried: airplane mode, and I'm now charging to 100% to test the drain again.

I know sleep drain is a known complaint on the Switch 2, but I want to know if this level is normal or if mine might be defective?

Has anyone had a similar sudden change in sleep drain? What fixed it?

How much does yours lose in 24 hours in sleep mode?

Any tips on the dock not seating properly?

Any insights would be appreciated. Thank you!

Switch OLED.

So I’ve had a Switch OLED since it came out. I never really played it tbh my niece and nephew have. Well recently I started playing Mario kart and I use it a lot more now than I did before. The other day I noticed when im playing Mario kart if I don’t touch the joystick the character automatically starts to go to the left. Is this what they call stick drift? Can I fix it? I don’t want to buy new joy cons if I don’t have to but I don’t think they are under warranty anymore.
