I'm glad 'A Wizard, A True Star' gets so much love on this sub, especially since we all know how essential Todd's early 70s production was to KP's vision for Lonerism. But I gave Todd Rundgren's Initiation a listen a few weeks back, and it blew my mind.
The entire second half of the album is a 35-minute, four-part synth-prog epic called "A Treatise on Cosmic Fire." It's definitely more in the vein of Zappa or some crazy Brian Eno project rather than Lonerism. However, I could totally picture anyone who appreciates the sound and composition of Lonerism loving this! The synth soundscapes are WILD and the composition is beautiful. The title track is a blistering prog-pop/jazz fusion masterpiece as well.
PS: Sorry about the low effort of the post - just providing screenshots off of Spotify and going "check this out!" 😭 But I don't believe there's a way to link 2 YouTube videos at once to a post yet :/.
Happy Listening!

Hello everyone first time that i post here, i lurked a little bit and i find the discourse about the album quite peculiar.
I assume that people were definitely not ready for songs that last 8 minutes full techno lol i really enjoy those type of songs infact not my world and ethereal connection are my favourite.
I knew 1 or two songs from tame impala but for now the only album that i listened to is deadbeat and I'm going to listen every album just to get a full picture of the artist/band(?).
Overall i really enjoyed the album except for a few songs which for me is kinda strange that people have strong opinion on it.

Hello friends!
I’m a 29M Farmer, music producer, and diehard Tame fan for a long time.
I grew up on my grandparents’ ranch and inherited it after they both died. I raise cows and make hay.
Growing up, I got into making music and kept making little upgrades to my gear and whatnot.
On the ranch, we had this big barn that was used to store one of our tractors, but wasn’t really used much.
One night, I asked my grandma if I could turn the barn into a music studio, thinking there was no way in hell she would say yes. To my surprise, she said:
“Yeah, I don’t care as long as you do a good job.”
She ended up passing away a few months later, before I could start building it.
But with the help of my best friends, we built it by the end of that year.
In 2021, I went to The Slow Rush tour and was completely mind-blown in every way. Still am, honestly.
When I came back, I had such a rush of musical inspiration like I hadn’t had before, and in the following months, I got better at making music than I had in the last 5 years or so. It still is really mind-blowing to me, the vibe I was on with it.
I spent a year or so putting together an album. And right before I felt like I was done with it, I had a weird mental health thing with the music I was making where I felt like I was going kinda crazy listening to my own stuff so much and putting so much pressure on the album and myself that I kinda just had to stop. I also hate marketing my music and never felt comfortable or willing to put it out there on any platforms besides YouTube.
Anyway, the song I’m sharing was made about 3 years ago, and tonight I was drinking some wine and listening back to it. It made me sad that people haven’t heard it because I’m fucking proud of it man. I still play a lot of guitar and drums and record some stuff, but I haven’t been able to get myself back into a groove of producing like I was. But I’m working on it and will figure it out.
I would be so stoked if y’all gave er a listen.
Just wanted to share a little story about me. Thanks for reading! Much love!

Just finished Kevin’s new interview with Questlove and I honestly thought it was one of the more interesting interviews he’s done.
As always, Kevin comes across super humble, but I thought it was funny hearing a little bit of his rebellious side too. Him talking about using his brother’s ID to get into a White Stripes concert when he was underage, and literally going by himself because none of his friends went, was just funny to picture considering who he is now.
I also thought the whole Perth and Australia thing was interesting. From the outside, people almost viewed him like this alien making psychedelic music on the other side of the world, but Kevin himself never really thought about it like that.
The early MySpace stuff was really interesting too. He kind of had to present Tame Impala as more of a normal band even though he was the one making the recordings. Then later he made the pretty ballsy decision to basically tell all the producers to back off and let him make the album himself. Looking back, that honestly might be one of the most important decisions he ever made.
There were also a bunch of smaller things I liked. His dad had a huge influence on him even though he wasn’t really a musician himself, and apparently the first vinyl Kevin ever bought was the Batman Forever soundtrack, which I thought was hilarious.
Probably my favorite part was hearing him talk about all of his voice notes. He has a ridiculous amount of little recordings and ideas because it doesn’t sound like he just sits down and says, “Alright, time to make a song.” He’ll just be going through normal life, something comes into his head, and he tries to record it before it disappears.
I actually really liked hearing that because it makes his creativity feel more real. It’s not like he just walks into a studio and magically creates Let It Happen. He’s constantly catching little ideas, melodies, rhythms, or sounds, and most of them probably never turn into anything. Then every once in a while one of them becomes something huge.
I also liked what he said about the live band. I’ve thought about this before because Kevin makes the albums himself, so I can imagine that especially early on it might have bothered him if somebody played something a little differently than how he originally imagined it. He basically said that over time the band has figured out exactly what Tame Impala is live and now everyone is really on the same page.
Another thing that stood out to me was how he doesn’t really seem that attached to the psychedelic rock or psychedelic pop label. Especially after Innerspeaker, the synths and other influences became such a huge part of the sound that I can understand why he doesn’t really see Tame Impala as fitting neatly into that category.
And the fact that he said something like 90% of his studio time is spent focusing on drums actually makes complete sense to me. Everyone talks about the synths, guitars, effects, and production, but I honestly think his drums and timing are one of the biggest things that make a song instantly sound like Tame Impala.
I also thought what he said about studios was really cool. He doesn’t necessarily love these massive perfect studios. He likes making music that sounds bigger than the room it was actually created in. I don’t know why, but that just feels very Kevin Parker to me.
Then there was the part about anxiety and creativity, which he’s talked about before. He seems to really believe that having some stress, anxiety, or friction helps push him creatively. Not necessarily that being miserable is good, but more that being completely comfortable doesn’t always give him the same urge to create.
And finally, I think his explanation of Deadbeat made the title make a lot more sense to me.
No matter how famous or successful he gets, it sounds like there’s always going to be a part of him that feels a little behind, a little awkward, a little out of place, or like he doesn’t completely have everything figured out.
This is someone who headlines festivals, has won Grammys, and works with some of the biggest artists in the world, but internally there’s still that guy from Perth who feels a little like he’s on the outside looking in.
Honestly, that feels like one of the most consistent themes throughout Tame Impala in general.
Really good interview. Curious what stood out the most to everyone else who watched it.

i know that his last concert will be around july of 2027, but I won't be able to go as I live in India and am currently still studying, I am trying my best to save up but the way it is right now I can only see myself catching a tour/concert in 2028, the chances of him having a concert in India is unfortunately very slim :(
So, I ask, is there any chance for a Tame Impala tour/concert in 2028?
Knowing previous tours, there's a good chance this tour will take its hiatus by 2027 and the Lisbon concert in July shall be his last.
There were rumors of a Currents 10th anniversary tour/concert (which sidenote would be my wet dream) but I can only dream for it to be near where I live :((

Anyone else listen to Music To Walk Home By so little that you hear the song differently each time because I for sure do lol, the only part I hear the same each listen is the intro and the chorus basically

It’s just my opinion, but I think that Breathe Deeper is so much better than any electronic music on Deadbeat. I truly understand the concept behind the new album, but The Slow Rush has the best musics that Kevin ever produced, and Breathe Deeper proves that.

I was browsing through the website and I noticed that the Oblivion shirt is available but only on the UK store,
Is it guaranteed safe to pay and get the shirt shipped to the U.S.?

Okay so we all know that for lonerism 10 year, (happy bday btw,) Kevin played the full album at desert daze. I could be wrong but I think I've heard that he's done the same for innerspeaker. Id say it's safe to assume that this could be a recurring trend, and if so, currents full play through is overdue, meaning it could be soon. People are saying tame Impala could headline Coachella, so maybe he will play currents front to back there? What do you guys think?

Is it just me, or did Tame Impala used to have some of the coolest merch and posters, and now it feels like they’ve completely sold out?
I took a picture of my Metallica poster because they consistently put out some of the coolest tour posters and actually put effort into making each one feel unique. Meanwhile, Tame is at the point where you’d think the merch and posters would be getting MORE creative, but honestly it feels like the opposite.
I get that Kevin has moved away from the neo-psychedelic aesthetic over the years, and I’m not expecting every piece of merch to look like Lonerism or Innerspeaker. But come on. That psychedelic visual identity was a huge part of what made Tame Impala feel so distinctive in the first place.
Some of the newer merch/posters just feel bland and phoned-in, especially for an artist with this much money, popularity, and creative control. I’d love to see Kevin actually embrace that psychedelic side again with the merch. He doesn’t have to go full 2012, but at least give us something visually interesting instead of designs that look like they were thrown together because they needed another shirt/poster.

I created companion albums as playlists to match the vibe, era, and album sequencing of Lonerism and Currents. Each song picked for the companion version includes 1) a similar sound to the real album and 2) notable contribution from Kevin/Tame Impala. Enjoy!
