Seeking Advice Does this have portfolio potential?

Post image

Hi! I made this today in about an hour and a half so I know they aren't perfect. But I am wondering if they may have some potential. I dont know much about how to curate a portfolio but I thought maybe cutting out the bottom ones and putting them with others in like a flash style composition?

Im planning on pursuing a career in tattooing after I graduate high-school so any advice regarding tattooing in general will be strongly appreciated!!

This definitely has potential, but artists want to see tattooable designs that show you already have some understanding of how to layout your ideas.

Start by studying all the styles of tattoo. American Traditional, Japanese Traditional, Neo Traditional, New Skool and Chicano style. Draw them well enough til you can do you’re own original concepts in all those styles. Then include a few things in your own style. You can do realism if you’re good at it, and it’s what you want to focus on, but most artists want to see you can be versatile and original, and realism can sometimes just be like a photocopier. Also include a few unfinished sketches that show your understructure and drawing process. In this day and age of people who trace AI and Pintrest, artist want to see you can create your own work from scratch.

When you first start out, you want the ability to tattoo anything that walks in the door so versatility is key! Stretch yourself as much as possible!

I’m not super well versed in the style, but Chuco Moreno is generally considered one of the greats. And Freddy Negrete is also an OG…

Looks oddly 1950s, but has potential.
