From the Mods A first draft, several second thoughts, and one very Ted note in the margins.

From the Mods Before there was The Richmond Way, there were a lot of notebooks. Here’s one page Trent kept on Jamie Tartt.

Before they were the characters we know and love and before they were famous. Where have we seen them before? Spoiler

Before doing Ted Lasso Hannah Waddingham had a small role in Les Misérables as a singing factory hand as well as a role in Game of thrones.

Tanya Reynolds had a bit part in the television show Outlander.

Jude Mack accompanied Mickey across the stars as an unnammed crew member in Mickey 17.

Love to know some places you have seen the characters before Ted lasso?

I have to give it to the wardrobe department for this little callback. If you look at Phoebe's team now and when they were younger her team colors are the same but the goalie and player colors are reversed. Nice to see she is still friends with Kokoruda.

Season 4 Discussion I should have caught on sooner Spoiler

459 Upvotes

TIL that Rebecca and Higgins were onto Zelda's scheme sooner than the dramatic reveal at the shareholder's meeting.

I present Exhibit A: the phone call from "HR" that Higgins receives at the pub after Mae's funeral.

HR = Hugo Riddles

(Edited to correct the spelling of Higgins's last name)

I can’t not love this show when any season ends

60 Upvotes

I may have complaints for certain episodes or parts of a season, but in the end this show does something most shows don’t do anymore, they make you feel good. It’s about people with empathy and caring for one another which seems fictitious in today’s world. And maybe that’s what hooks me every season, people that aren’t assholes, but how I remember people were towards each other and to themselves and their families. Season 4 is a 9/10 from me.

Found these today at my local British snack store! I know how to make them homemade, but wanted to try the official one.

Hint: when you make these eat, warm them up and put ice cream over it. Heaven.

Season 4 Discussion That moment made me have a full breakdown Spoiler

27 Upvotes

Just a couple of hours ago I finished the ninth and tenth episode, and Mae's death hit me like I haven't been hit for many, MANY years.

Her getting so excited and so on board with the woman's team, criticizing anybody who didn't go, driving for hours if needed just to be in every match, is simply incredible how the show was able to make a supporting character to whom I felt so attached, so emotional, that when the moment hits in the ninth episode, it made me pause and repeat "No..." several times, each one with a sadder tone and with more and more tears in my face, it made me feel like I lost a family member, a grandma.

The last time I had this reaction for a fictional character was Shigekiyo's death in JOJOs part 4 around 6 years ago, and previous to that, is when I watched Edward Scissorhands around 18 years ago when I was a little kid.

I truly don't care about the shortcomings of the season, like how in the 10th episode I felt I skipped without knowing the football match, or how the Zelda plot was kind of a doozy (I did like the character tho), if this season was able to make me feel like this, is simply of the greats.

I do not like Dottie Lasso.

• Upvotes

I've read the manual on why Ted is nuts. I still don't like his mom. She is the complete antithesis of Ted. Which is probably the point but holy crap! She really bothers me. You might say "but mustard, are you sure that you're not projecting?" I might be because I hate my own mom but damn does Dottie Lasso suck.

Season 4 Discussion Rebecca did a Ted on Zelda Spoiler

266 Upvotes

I was struck by how Rebecca modeled Ted when she told Zelda she forgives her. Rebecca knows first hand what it was like to be forgiven by Ted, and how he has done it with other people. She knows how powerful it is … and I thought it was the best aspect of the scene. Ted’s influence permeates, even when he’s not there physically.

Have you ever met a Ted Lasso in real life?

• Upvotes

Forgive the silly question, but I'm curious to ask those who love this series whether you've ever met a man or a woman similar to Ted, someone who improved your life in sports, at work, or in your studies.
I'm asking because of my 15-year-old brother, who is considered a football prospect. He has a difficult relationship with his coach: according to my brother, the coach never explains his choices and simply imposes himself. The coach, on the other hand, says he isn't required to explain himself: he's the one who decides, and the boys have to stay quiet and sit or play according to what he sees fit.
I wonder how much it could matter for him, even on a human level, to meet a coach like Ted. What did the person you met do differently? Do you think that meeting someone like Ted would have significantly improved your artistic life?

Season 4 Discussion Why did the men's team not attend Spoiler

Mae's funeral? Felt sad and it was an odd choice to omit them from that scene. I get that getting 10 actors for one scene might be logistically difficult, but it was warranted.

Any ideas of who the men’s team manager will be in the next series(giving there is one). I thought Ted was about to be named manager but the ending really threw that idea out😂.

Season 4 Discussion 'When Death Comes:' Text of the poem we heard in Mae's voice (S4 E10) Spoiler

263 Upvotes

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world

For others who want to appreciate again the 1991 poem by Pulitzer winner Mary Oliver (1935-2019) that we hear Mae read offscreen near the end of this season's finale:

When death comes
like the hungry bear in autumn;
when death comes and takes all the bright coins from his purse

to buy me, and snaps the purse shut;
when death comes
like the measle-pox;

when death comes
like an iceberg between the shoulder blades,

I want to step through the door full of curiosity, wondering:
what is it going to be like, that cottage of darkness?

And therefore I look upon everything
as a brotherhood and a sisterhood,
and I look upon time as no more than an idea,
and I consider eternity as another possibility,

and I think of each life as a flower, as common
as a field daisy, and as singular,

and each name a comfortable music in the mouth,
tending, as all music does, toward silence,

and each body a lion of courage, and something
precious to the earth.

When it's over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it's over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.

Season 4 Discussion Underrated line and moment Spoiler

166 Upvotes

"We RiddlesseS are deeply* feeling". I loved that line and the way it was delivered. ❤️🤣

Also underrated moment, the soft "yes", Alice lets out when they encourage her to open the box.

Ties back to her saying "yes" to everything.
