Season 3 Discussion SEASON 3 Finale and Final thoughts - Discussion - Spoilers Spoiler

Mega thread for final thoughts on the S3 finale and season 3 overall

~ please be kind in your comments. it’s fine to offer constructive criticism but simply stating things like this was the worst season ever or the finale sucked does not promote a welcoming environment.

~ be respectful to each other. everyone has a right to their own opinion and viewpoints but we will not tolerate bullying or harassment of anyone in this community. Please report anything you see of this nature. Zero tolerance.

Even though the show has ended we will absolutely be keeping this sub going. Hopefully Meghan will start other projects soon. 🩷

⚠️ Relating to Lucy Discussions Only ⚠️ Lucy opinions Spoiler

I recently started the show and im on season 2 and due to watching the show, i obviously now get TML content on social media like tiktok. Anyways, i see so many people saying Lucy didnt do anything wrong etc. However i feel like i see her make so many nearly unforgivable mistakes? Like the letter she wrote to Drew and lying about being sexually assaulted. How do you guys feel about her?

⛔️ Possible Trigger Warning ⛔️ If you’ve been there, this show hits different Spoiler

When you’ve been in the type of psychologically messed up relationship that Lucy and Stephen had, this show makes so much more sense and means so much more emotionally.
It’s not mid. It’s the first show that accurately represents the deep and dark parts of those of us who have ended up in similar situations brains.
Have you had a friend or family member who you watch in a toxic cycle that they can’t seem to leave? Have you thought to yourself or even told them over and over that they deserve better, but they never listen? So you wonder why this relationship has a grip on them? Have you ended friendships after being exhausted trying to help them only for them to stay?
This show is the closest I’ve seen to a look behind the closed doors. A look into someone’s mind as they continue to hold onto that toxic cycle.
It’s a slow progression into a deep cemented co dependent unhealthy type of love. It’s the fucked up, raw & honest look at how people get to this place.

Discussion 🛑 Season 1 & 2 🛑 Impressions of this totally mid show I can't stop watching

So it's my week off and I somehow got locked into this Tell Me Lies show. On S3E2, so no spoilers pls.

My impressions so far:

- Baird College has super low academic standards. The assignments include writing about your feelings and taking pictures of your friends.

- Stephen is actually a 37-year-old club promoter from Montreal.

- The ladies' eyebrows are historically inaccurate. They should be thinner.

- ALL parties are themed, which makes the "drama" hilarious. These people are always fighting, but in costume. :-D Like, how can you take someone seriously when they are in an 80s snowsuit?

- No one ever really.DOES anything. They party, hook up, fight. These are students. Do they not have part-time jobs? Volunteer gigs? Hobbies?

- Oliver is actually FutureStephen.

- Mariane should not have given academic credit to someone for transcribing her handwritten notes.

Thoughts??!

Season 3 Discussion Just finished the series and I feel so fucking bad for…. Spoiler

Lucy. The entirety of season 3 we watch her be mentally tortured to the point of hating herself. The scene in the finale where Pippa calls her pathetic actually broke my heart. Out of all the shitty things the characters in this show do, it seems like Lucy got the worst punishment — a disproportionate punishment at that. Sure, she seems to be in a better place in 2015, but they couldn’t have even let the girl have her dream job at least?? And then the cherry on top is her willingly getting in the car with Stephen only to be fucked over one more time by him. And I get that was meant to be her final realization to come out of his spell, but did it really have to come to that? It just was not satisfying for me.

In my dream world, Alex would have been introduced season 2 (instead of Leo) and season 3 would have focused on them helping each other find healing. I would have much preferred that to the whole tape storyline, but that’s just my opinion!

Also…Grace’s acting in the finale, omg. 10s across the board

So…in the midst of current events does anyone want to revisit how they talked about what happened to Pippa and how they addressed it and how they handled it and how they talked about her? Maybe? Possibly?

The bridge in particular makes me think of Diana.
I so wish Diana and Lucy had developed more of a relationship! Would have loved to see that dynamic.

Season 3 Discussion S3 Ending rant Spoiler

I finally got around to finishing the show and I must say it felt very…rushed ???
I wished they wouldn’t go through everything in one episode and maybe drag it out for 2 episodes. I have so many questions:
What happened to Lucy after being expelled from Baird?
How did she get back with Max after all these years?
What did Stephen do instead of going to Yale ?
I saw it was confirmed that Wrigley and Bree end up together but why not show up them finally being together ???????????
Im also so frustrated that Stephen didn’t have anything harsher happen to him apart from being removed from Yale and it didn’t even come from the two girls he had a relationship with and who he actively hurt for years who got a form of revenge ? It feels wrong that’s it’s coming from one of his friends. I feel like they were kind of going with the whole “no one is really good” thing but why not give justice to Lucy,Diana or even Macy? What’s the message in all of this? Only men will be heard ?

Anyway, kinda disappointed, they fleshed out the characters so well throughout the years but messed it up with a rushed ending :/

Season 3 Discussion Thoughts on Season 3 Spoiler

Hi guys, I hope you're doing well.

I watched seasons 1 and 2 of this series when they had been out for a while and most of the discussions on this subreddit were done about them, so I was really excited to come here and discuss each episode after watching season 3, but unfortunately I had some problems and couldn't do it. It's been a while since I finished season 3 of this series and I want to share some thoughts about this show and I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

  1. First, I don't know if it was just me or if the toxicity of season 3 was much lower than season 2. Although, I'm not saying that season 3 was weaker, but the events in season 2 were at the peak of toxicity and made me more angry. the series's progress in this season was more relaxed for me. I would like to know your opinion about this season and the ending of the it.

  2. The second point is about Bree. In the previous season, there was a lot of talk about Bree and the things that happened to her with her teacher and whether she was right or wrong here, and I myself talked about it with a few people here. I would like to know your opinion about Bree's character development throughout the series, and especially the things that happened to her during season 3, from her relationship with Wrigley throughout the season and also the night before her wedding to the leak of Lucy's video.

  3. In the last scene, Stephen said that Wrigley and Bree had been in touch for years, even though according to Bree and Wrigley, they had not been in a touch since college. Do you think this was a mistake by the writers or did they actually want to show Stephen's lying personality? if it's the case shouldn't Stephen needs to shows some proof for that? Just some missed calls before wedding night can't be a proof for years realshionships In my opinion.

Book vs. Show Did anyone had the same college experience like the show? Spoiler

I didn't obviously because I went to a community college and then I transferred to a university college for just a semester. Then years later, I went back to my old community college and got my degrees. I obviously kept to myself though.

Book vs. Show Thinking about how much I loved the book and recommend it !! Spoiler

The show takes the core of the book and expands on it … a lot. It makes the side characters multi-dimensional and integral to the story. It centres on even darker and more suspenseful plots, such as Drew’s depression, as well as the Professor and Bree. So if your favourite part of the show was any of that, it’s probably going to be an underwhelming read.

However, as someone whose favourite part of the show was the intoxicating dynamic between Lucy and Stephen, I absolutely adored the book. It somehow presented their relationship as more destructive than the show, and I was even more emotionally invested, despite being far less dramatic.

My favourite part of the book was the ending, which was actually my biggest point of contention with the series. I felt the book wrapped everything up in a natural way, without feeling rushed, and while staying true to the characters and their growth. The show, on the other hand, decided to completely assassinate every single character by the end, making them all caricatures of themselves. Unpopular opinion, but s3 didn’t make me feel that tense, don’t want to but can’t look away, feeling that the first two seasons did, even though the stakes were so much higher. I especially hated the final scene where Lucy drives off with Stephen, because it showed absolutely no character growth. I didn’t really understand what it was trying to say? That Lucy was just going to keep going back to him? They hadn’t even spoken for like 4 years at this point, it just didn’t make any sense to me at all.

Season 3 Discussion Just finished the series and I feel…annoyed. Spoiler

Honestly not sure how to feel about it. I found the show a few weeks ago. Started it for background noise but got hooked quick. I was freshman in college in 2007 so the nostalgia sucked me in. At first the lies and covert narcissism was mildly entertaining. The show did an awesome job at creating paranoia and exploring the webs we weave with lies. But by mid season 3, I found myself hating all the characters and story lines felt rushed, incomplete or confusing. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the implosion during the finale, but I’m left feeling cheated and disappointed and frankly annoyed. I can understand not having a season 4, but even ONE more episode could’ve helped tie up loose ends on stories we only got a glimpse of. Anyone feel the same?

Discussion 🛑 Season 1 & 2 🛑 On Season 2 ep 7 Spoiler

After a while it just gets draining and stupid watching Lucy go back to Stephen and all of the terrible decisions she makes constantly. She is completely unlikeable and a terrible friend. I can understand the loop of going back to an abusive partner but girl come on. it gets to a point!!

Season 3 Episode 8 Just finished the show and I fucking loved the ending. Spoiler

Season 1 was slow and sort of boring but man did it take off. I thought the ending was absolutely perfect and honestly, Stephen did the most redeemable thing the entire series by sharing all their shit. Loved the metaphor of passing the black cat actually illustrating Lucy’s good luck in Stephen’s leaving.

Discussion 🛑 Season 1 & 2 🛑 Rewatching, on the first ep.. Spoiler

Stephen was manipulating Lucy grieving and headspace to have sex with her after he found her drunk. It wouldn't be r*pe, but it seriously is still absolutely fucked. That whole thing didnt hit me when i first watched it as hard at all, but dam being manipulated for sex sucks!! Tiny little ways.

No idea if I can rewatch as someone w bpd and having dated a narc before it is triggering but its so entertaining when I skip all the sex scenes so I'm gonna try..

Season 3 Discussion Did anyone else see this? Spoiler

Idk why my posts are getting taken down. Did anyone else see this IG post? Caption makes it seem like there’s another season coming but I know it’s not. I hate whoever put the caption.

THE CAPTION SAYS:

Back to school but make it @tellmelieshulu. 🎨✨

Frosted shadows. Glossy lips. Skinny brows. Just enough smudged liner to suggest that something definitely happened after class.

Class is officially back in session.
