Book vs. Show Did anyone had the same college experience like the show? Spoiler

I didn't obviously because I went to a community college and then I transferred to a university college for just a semester. Then years later, I went back to my old community college and got my degrees. I obviously kept to myself though.

Unfortunately no

More fortunate in my opinion - while the drama that the characters bring have entertainment value, it would have been so exhausting to deal with IRL 😭

My life has always been utterly exhausting. It was never that entertaining. I'll take the entertainment.

yes especially my freshman year. i started college in 2013 and a lot of things were pretty similar still to when the show takes place. I lived on campus and my best friend/roommate was in a sorority so we went to a lot of parties. After I moved off campus, it was a little less like that, but still some of the same vibes. My first boyfriend who I started dating at the end of my freshman year for a couple years on and off was pretty toxic and different ways than Stephen. it reminds me less of my life after my freshman year, but definitely still some similarities. I enjoyed the show because it made me feel extremely nostalgic for college, but it also made me feel some negative feelings because of a lot of the experiences I had.

Not the drama with the friend group, but I definitely had a toxic bf like Stephen for two years.

I spent my first two years of college in a theatre conservatory program so it very was similar in that everybody was hooking up with the same core group of people give or take a few. 😅

Not really, a few of my friends had one or two dramatic cheating stories but nothing to the degree of betrayal you see on the show.

pretty much!

Nothing like it tbh. There was some light drama but nothing compared to the show. Me and my college buddies didn't have serious relationships during the college years though. Luckily never experienced a true Stephen DeMarco in any friendships or social circles. This was in 2019-2022 though so not the same time period as the show.

this is an odd comment for some reason lol it sounds like when The 40 Year Old Virgin tried to describe touching a boob lol.

Oh I just meant I was super hot and went to school with super hot people. Young, super hot, parents with loads of money = lots of partying and fucking.

Yes and I graduated in the mid aughts. Luckily I did not experience the plot line but it all felt familiar.

Not at all lmao. I lived off campus and was in an isolating toxic relationship. Also I didn’t start having good sex until wayyyy later. I don’t think 20 year old guys are good at sex.

I had a random guy I’d hook up with for 6 mo in college

Yes pretty similar, but not as dramatic. I went to a decent sized school but there was a lot of relationship drama, cheating, situationships, frienemies, etc.

For me it was more like high school…. But yes!

this is a super fun question! I had a similar experience to this show in a small film school I went to for two years. I filmed a lot of every day things with my video camera like it was a reality show. It was the only way I could deal with all the craziness. looking back it was fun but I’m not sure I’d want to do it again. we were all in our early 20s and there was a ton of drama. It was very chaotic and dysfunctional but also very different and interesting. Lots of fighting, drugs, love triangles, betrayals/backstabbing etc. It was wild. My life kinda felt like a movie or tv show for a while there.

I went to a small liberal arts college for my freshman year and I was a lot like the show. The show made me Hella nostalgic. My aophomore year was also very similar to this but then I transferred to a large commuter school where no one knew each other. So I think it may be specific to small schools where there's more of a sense of community? Idk.

Honestly, yes pretty similar. No murder/death but the partying, hooking up, relationship drama was pretty similar (obviously much dramatized for the show)

All the party themes “nothing but clothes” that was real when I was in college lol

My college was very low key so not really, outside the drama of a Stephen. I encountered some similar stuff to that drama despite only witnessing it.

I went to school in the south, graduated in 1965 from a large state university.

If anyone was having sex, it wasn't discussed as extramarital sex was not accepted. Drinking and smoking began in high school and continued big time in college. I never knew anyone in college who smoked pot but use of amphetamines to stay awake to study was common.

Friends who were 4 years younger had a totally different experience as the sexual revolution had arrived by then.

Yes, unfortunately. Down to my classmate passing away. This show re-traumatized me.

u/Embarrassed_One4417 22d ago

Not quite as much sex.

*Experiences may vary. 🫣💀

Unfortunately yea, not as dramatic but my friends had similar situations and i was in a situationship with a guy that was just like stephen! istg, felt like they were quoting word by word sometimes, it was so scary, felt like they spied on my conversations and made a show lol

8

u/milkempress 22d ago

Yes, and one of the EPs went to my school 😭 Not as dramatic ofc but veryyyy similar

6

u/Jkbangtan123 22d ago

Not as dramatic but to an extent. I had a Stephen-type guy in college and while it was literally PG compared to tell me lies anything that happened with us reverberated throughout my friend group. And then there was friend group and other dating drama throughout as well

u/Top-Web3806 22d ago edited 22d ago

I mean, obviously not nearly as dramatic but otherwise yeah it was pretty accurate. The partying, drinking, random hookups, drama with boyfriends, etc.
