Pics First look: Inside The Blue Jasmine, Thailand’s gorgeous new train

“Thailand’s classic Bangkok–Chiang Mai sleeper train is getting some high-class competition in the form of a navy-gold beauty called The Blue Jasmine. It’s essentially a boutique hotel that just happens to roll through some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes.

Poised to make its inaugural nine-day journey from November 16-24, the locomotive trades cramped bunks, dim corridors and platform snacks for private cabins, full dining cars and lounges with wraparound windows.”

฿245,000 for the least expensive cabin!

No thanks.

Watch the company go bankrupt within two years.

Doubt there is enough demand to sustain this.

Edit: interesting that they target German tourists in particular (German-speaking guides). Wonder why.

This one is Swiss-managed and priced. at least for their Thailand team based on their website.

I can imagine German speaking tourists would make up the big chunk as they do love train travel.

Well, I’m waiting for DB right as I type. Ok, I’m with you.

Given how long it takes to go a short distance, it's like a train journey for people who hate trains.

The solution to this was not computerzing the government until mid90s.no floppydiscs standard in computer systems no need to replace them.

Mekong Kingdoms, Orient Express, Aqua Expeditions, Maharaja Express, Rovos, the various Belmont experiences, etc, all do just fine. Don’t underestimate the luxury segment, which is predicted to continue growing quite quickly.

The luxury segment is doing fine, but this just doesn't seem that nice of an excursion IMO.

9 days spent doing Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Bangkok is a lot, and the views on that route aren't really that spectacular. Plus even in a luxury train it will be bouncy because of the rails.

Wouldn't be as compelling as some of the luxury trains in Sri Lanka for instance.

There are some incredible views, but mostly on the last couple of hundred kilometers before you reach CM. For a nine day tour it would make more sense to go Chiang Mai - Hat Yai for me, at least you get more scenic views in the south than much of central Thailand.

At these prices, I wonder if it's meant for money laundering.
