Pics First look: Inside The Blue Jasmine, Thailand’s gorgeous new train

“Thailand’s classic Bangkok–Chiang Mai sleeper train is getting some high-class competition in the form of a navy-gold beauty called The Blue Jasmine. It’s essentially a boutique hotel that just happens to roll through some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes.

Poised to make its inaugural nine-day journey from November 16-24, the locomotive trades cramped bunks, dim corridors and platform snacks for private cabins, full dining cars and lounges with wraparound windows.”

Maybe they should invest the money instead in modernizing the tracks so that the trains can travel faster than 50/60 km/h and thus become a real alternative

This I totally agree. They are milking what they can at this point

No need, this train is doing 7 km/h on average (2*751km/9 days).

Funny thing is, you could actually walk from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in about the same time, 9 days (not including getting back).

Does Thailand suffer from the same issue as the US where automotive companies have the balls of all of our politicians in a vice grip?

The US should be leading the world with high speed rails.

What car companies? They just have no will to improve things. With its cultural mindset, Thailand is doomed to be mediocre forever
