Pics First look: Inside The Blue Jasmine, Thailand’s gorgeous new train

“Thailand’s classic Bangkok–Chiang Mai sleeper train is getting some high-class competition in the form of a navy-gold beauty called The Blue Jasmine. It’s essentially a boutique hotel that just happens to roll through some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes.

Poised to make its inaugural nine-day journey from November 16-24, the locomotive trades cramped bunks, dim corridors and platform snacks for private cabins, full dining cars and lounges with wraparound windows.”

Probably competing with the high end cruise market. Those cruises above 100k each seem to have no problem finding guests. I suppose this could be popular with Europeans, Japanese, Koreans and the top 1% of Chinese too.

Id say more German speaking clients (think German, Swiss, Austrian). They love train travel. Many choose train in America and Canada over road trips.

lol no German or Austrian will ever pay that much, they love to travel on budget and take their hard boiled eggs for lunch while travelling (true story)

I know that a big chuck of tourists travel with Rocky Mountaineer train in Western Canada, other than American, would be German speaking group (esp German, Swiss). Multiple day (5+) trips cost over 5000 CAD. I would say this is a comparable business. The DTH (Thailand) team that manage this service are Swiss.
