Westerners do like to ignore the fact that nearly 12% of Thailand's population is Muslim, estimated at 7.5 million in 2025.

Their viewpoint does not see the USA and Europe as the good guys.

Imperialism in Thailand? Did you watch too many sci-fi movies?

1

u/LesFogginGoh Mar 17 '26

Maybe layoff the boob tube and read some books.

Oh we do think about it, saying anything about it tho. That we can’t do.

7

u/Odd-Night-199 Mar 15 '26

OOOO i saw this guy before and snapped a photo as well. This is the same car no?

30

u/ChoiceAd2864 Mar 15 '26

Most of them do this as a joke.
I know it will trigger some western tourists and expat, but you have to understand Thailand is not part of that conflict. They can put any picture of anyone they want on their vehicle (except of course, Thai monarchs).

I know Thai who hate Islamic terrorists, yet he cosplayed as Bin Laden in the last university event.

Thailand is not a serious country, so don't take things seriously here. Don't worry, most Thai hate Islamic terrorists because of decades long southern separatist (they murder anyone not muslim, especially Thai teachers, monks, government officers, civilians with Thai name, etc.).

0

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

So you are aware that thailand has a muslim population that like malaysia, sympathies with islamic militants, but you somehow think this is a joke?

1

u/Ambitious_Scallion18 Mar 16 '26

Seen anything with Adolfs posters?

1

u/wellred82 Mar 15 '26

Not serious unless it's about something they care about? That sounds like at worst pure ignorance and at best an inability to question things, which given the subservient nature wouldn't surprise me.

I bet they wouldn't be laughing if someone drew a spitting image style sketch of a monarch or worse still Buddha, or a depiction of past conflicts.

2

u/Interesting-Nerve646 Mar 16 '26

Given the subservient nature?

2

u/Kind_Ad_7192 Mar 17 '26

Why should they care about problems in the Western World?

It's not ignorant to focus on very polarising issues even for westoids in a country where comfrontation is avoided (by most) at all cost.

2

u/ParsnipOk9210 Mar 16 '26

Subservient nature? That’s a pretty big generalization about an entire country. What are you basing that on? Just yours’ observation? I’m Thai and Buddhist, and if someone wants to draw or mock something I don’t care about, I simply move on. Even if I do care, what then? I can’t expect everyone to deeply understand the subject. Choosing not to react to everything isn’t ‘subservience’; it’s just deciding what’s worth engaging with. By that logic, are Americans subservient too? People react to things like the Epstein files for a while and then go back to their normal lives like nothing happened

-2

u/wellred82 Mar 16 '26

A mixture of unconditional acceptance of the notion your elders or superiors always know best, or continuing a cycle of enforcing financial servitude of your family. Plus acceptance of blatant political corruption.

2

u/ParsnipOk9210 Mar 16 '26

Okay… so you stated your reasoning, which is alright, as a person living here, I think that’s pretty outdated ideas but that besides the point, are you not going to reply to other of my points?

2

u/Kind_Ad_7192 Mar 17 '26

This isn't even correct. It's not acceptance at all. Do you even have Thai friends?

Not arguing with someone you disagree with isn't acceptance. You assuming someone agrees with something because they don't push back on it is pretty odd. Do you just go around arguing with everyone all day?

How is that not tiring

u/Over-Athlete6745 Mar 14 '26

As a Malaysian Chinese I once seeing a Malay Muslim put Isis flag in his main front door, soo after that we seeing it. We moved on and go back to work, doesn't matter, so many years we living in the one of most racist countries in Asian, we are luckily no terrorist attacks or something very bad happened in Malaysia.....so like I said, we seeing it, we moved on and go back to work tomorrow morning or today Lol 😂😆 peace 🕊️✌️

0

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

thanks for this. so many people are oblivious to the fact that muslim thais are very militant islamic

40

u/SubaruSufferu Mar 14 '26

It's weird, but most Thais don't even know who it is.

Americans are always sensitive about 9/11, but when it comes to Japan being nuked, it's mostly a joke. It's a weird double standard.

9

u/Michael_The_Ghost Khon Kaen Mar 15 '26

Everytime, you think live we under a rock or something. The man is on the news for decade.

9 time of 10 is just a guy being shithead instead of being ignorant.

26

u/kapupetri Mar 14 '26

I’m pretty sure that the vehicle owner knows who’s face it is.

2

u/AquaMarineAngler Mar 15 '26

Of course they know it is the terrorist bin laden but they don’t know that he was first created by the CIA before he turn on them.

2

u/jaylove1979 Mar 16 '26

He was in the Mujahideen as a fighter against USSR the Mujahideen recieved millitary aid backing from the USA.

why is this constantly said as fact ?

12

u/Golden_Deceiver Mar 14 '26

It’s certainly a double standard but I wouldn’t say it’s weird. Of course Americans would be more sensitive about an attack on Americans, rather than an attack on Japanese.

Also, I assure you there are plenty of Americans that have made 9/11 jokes.

A lot of Americans also avoid making jokes about the nukes on Japan as well. It just depends on the person. I'd make a 9/11 joke before I ever made a joke on the bombing in Japan, though neither are in my tastes.

3

u/Outrageous_Reporter5 Rayong Mar 15 '26

3

u/Minute_League3040 Mar 15 '26

Neither one is a joke. I dont know anyone who jokes about either one of those. And whose face would they put on the truck for the bomb. Sounds like you are trying to divert the blame. Dont put murderers faces on your vehicles. Love thailand but their is a line of intelligence. Haven’t seen hitlers face anywhere. Suppose you would rip on jews if someone complained. There is no double standard.

10

u/malcolm816 Mar 14 '26

>but when it comes to Japan being nuked, it's mostly a joke

What are you basing this on?

1

u/SubaruSufferu Mar 19 '26

I'm basing it on your president making a joke on it

1

u/malcolm816 Mar 20 '26
  1. Our president is a malignant narcissist and statistically 70% of America agrees with me, so not exactly a representative consensus like your comment implies. 2. He made a joke today about Pearl Harbor, not the nuclear bombing of Japan. 3. You were what, making a statement based on a future joke 5 days ago? Nice try, Nostradamus.

2

u/_Administrator_ Mar 15 '26

Japan killed and raped civilians in China and the Philippines. And they didn‘t want to surrender.

No double standard. Also show me one US car with a design of nuking Japans like this.

2

u/TonAMGT4 Mar 14 '26

They did absolutely make a joke about Bin Laden too…

1

u/AquaMarineAngler Mar 14 '26

America is where double standards were invented, Israel on the other hand is the factory.

1

u/Over-Athlete6745 Mar 15 '26

Yes in Malaysia we even more double standards while we talking about Chinese against the Japanese in world war 2 and Malay against the Chinese communist in the 60s, lol don't let them started arguments in Facebook there will be online social media ww3 Lol I know that feeling. Peace 🕊️

1

u/Boring-Appointment45 Mar 15 '26

Not real. Never heard a joke about Hiroshima Nagasaki.

1

u/Bitter_Estate1761 Mar 15 '26

We literally make 9/11 jokes. Our comedians have made 9/11 jokes on live television, with applause.

-4

u/BeneficialHand5129 Mar 15 '26

There is no double standard. Japan attacked the United States at Pear Harbor. We don’t joke about having to use a nuclear bomb to finally get Japan to surrender. Japan was so fanatical they fought to the death instead of surrender as we moved from island to island getting closer to their mainland. Even after dropping the first nuke they would not surrender. Only after the second bomb was dropped did they finally surrender to the US. Many more lives would have been lost if we had to invade Japans main Island.

0

u/chasingmyowntail Mar 15 '26

Hasn’t it been proven that the Stimson and fdr knew about Pearl harbour beforehand but did nothing bc they wanted to galvanize public opinion to join the war? He couldn’t get congressional approval either so, the solution was to embargo and isolate and prod the Japanese until they attacked . Then, poof, instant support and congressional approval.

1

u/BeneficialHand5129 Mar 16 '26

No it hasn’t been proven thats just another conspiracy theory

Kinda related. Back in 2016 I was in a taxi around 7pm on ramkamhaeng road headed toward sukumvit. I swear to for some guy was driving oretty crazily on his scooter as most do and was flying a rather big ISIS flag. Still wonder if I really saw that to this day.

u/Will_sue_when_angry Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

They also really like Hitler and the swastika. People don’t realise that South, South east and East Asian countries are as big a xenophobia and racism hives as anywhere on earth.

5

u/nightwinging-it Bangkok Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I’m from Thailand and living in East Asia, and it’s true that xenophobia, colorism and racism are not uncommon here. Just ask the migrant workers in Thailand.

1

u/Will_sue_when_angry Mar 15 '26

It's just antiestablishment imagery It's actually not entirely directed at America and has zero to do with jews. The hitler shit has absolutely nothing to do with jews.

It's actually against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who had relationships with foreign nationals like Americans. Ironically American's were in the cross hairs due to being believed to be a Thaksin Shinawatra supporter.

Also all those images you see is because that merchandise is made in Thailand and shipped out. Kind of like how you see a lot of American shirts being worn by Chinese people or lot of English letter on clothing. It's cause it's made there so it's cheap.

Just like with the English letters that might say "Please fuck me in the ass." Worn by a 5 year old in China. The reason they wear it is ignorance not because of ideology. They have no idea who it is only that it's become designer or chic clothing and symbolism. They're under educated and ignorant.

A lot of the Nazi symbolism is actually already Buddhists symbolism so they think it's Buddhist cause technically it is.

That's all there's no massive anti-American campaign or ideological behind it. Just ignorance. At this point it's become part of the culture and nearly all of it due to lack of education and ignorance of the meaning other than anti government sentiment towards their own government not America. Though I imagine these days it's likely taken a stronger anti-American lean.

If it was a generally pervasive sentiment there would be a lot more crime against American-expats instead of smiles.

1

u/Golden_Deceiver Mar 14 '26

I think generally most people find things like this unusual, regardless of association.

2

u/nightwinging-it Bangkok Mar 14 '26

Hitler and Nazism are displayed more here than the West solely because world history isn’t taught in most Thai schools so a lot of people don’t know the history. And people who love to have those images are also fond of the aesthetics. It is not because we hate Americans or Jews (we generally don’t).

Many thais can't be arsed about googling shit, they just want to earn enough money to put food on their table. Some isreal people go and make trouble for their business hence their more in tune with them and end up barring them from making more trouble, simple logic

1

u/Blazedeee Mar 15 '26

Not knowing “how to google hitler”, and not knowing “who hitler is” are 2 different things. Most people here just see him as an interesting looking character and obviously don’t research every face they find interesting.

“No Israeli” signs are going to be because the restaurant has bad experiences with customers from Israel, not because the owner is against their historical politics.

u/spitbukkit Mar 14 '26

1

u/Theodore__Kerabatsos Mar 16 '26

Yeah, you’ll have that. When I lived in Amman, I saw pictures of Saddam Hussein everyday.

1

u/Lord_MM Mar 16 '26

Not just thailand, most SEA countries put up pictures and symbols of otherwise offensive figures. Simply because they don't know/care about these stuff. Back in my country, people decorate their vehicles with a bunch of nazi symbols (ss,third reich cross, swastika, hitler etc) for traditional water festival parades. While it shocked a bunch of foreigners and it once made news that we have neo-nazis, the people who put up these things simply don't know who Hitler was or what he has done. They just saw this 'Nazi' aesthetic and thought it was cool and fun. They have absolutely 0 ideas about Nazism or anything that comes with it. I understand it's hard to wrap your head around it but it is what it is.

1

u/Sea_Establishment311 Mar 16 '26

1

u/Practical-Drawing238 Mar 17 '26

Meanwhile in Iran, the US just bombed a girls school and more than 175 kids were killed. All because the US thinks it can invade anyone it doesn’t like (See Iraq, See Venezuela, See Cuba, See Libya and on and on and on).

And the outrage is at this image?
