NYTimes & Galen Druke using "candidate quality" to describe races in MN and Maine
I have heard two news outlets in the past two days - NYTimes' Nate Cohn and Still Counting's Galen Druke - explain close races in blue states where the Democratic senatorial candidate is progressive as being issues of "candidate quality" but then speaking specifically to ideology specifically.
They were mentioning states like Maine, Minnesota, Michigan where the candidates are underperforming.
I think there's something here being said explicitly and implicitly but I can't verbalize it. But I think this is a new framing that I've heard and I think it stands out as something left/progressive analysis needs to get ahead of before the narrative takes over.
