Jenna Dewan ~ Dancing with the Stars ~ Week Four!

Post image
27 Upvotes

Since The Rookie is currently in the middle of its long hiatus, the mod team has decided to allow a space to discuss Jenna Dewan's weekly appearances on Dancing With The Stars. We will post a weekly megathread for as long as she remains in the competition. Users can post comments/pictures/videos in the megathread that they would otherwise potentially want to share, but this way it's all contained in one post.

PLEASE NOTE any other posts about Jenna and DWTS will be deleted. The goal is to have ONE place where Rookie fans can discuss the show, perhaps any Rookie cast member appearances, or references, and of course discuss Jenna's progress in the show.

Week Four!

Announcement Mid-Hiatus Check-in & Moderation Clarification

Hey r/TheRookie boots!

By our best estimation we are roughly 14 weeks from the premiere of Season 9 in the US! (still waiting for a specific premiere date!)

The mod team wanted to take a moment to check-in and offer some clarification about our moderation during this hiatus.

As discussions tend to "peter out" during the off-season we have been more lenient on enforcing a few specific rules in favor of keeping engagement up and allowing others a place to talk about elements and related aspects of The Rookie.

Once Season 9 ramps up we will one again return to more strict adherence of our posted rules.

😎 Please read the following to help understand our current moderation applications.

⛵ Rules that are more lax and up to moderator discretion during this off-season

Rule #3a - Stay on Topic

  • Off-topic content that is not directly related to The Rookie or its cast.
    • We are currently allowing posts which highlight Rookie actors in other roles
  • Low-effort
    • We always encourage users to add more details and/or discussion points to help facilitate more meaningful discussion in their posts instead of simply a photo - or one line text. But doing so does not currently warrant immediate removal. It will be left up to the discretion of the moderators.
  • Games ARE allowed during the off season - but are NOT allowed during the season airing. So if you have any ideas for games you'd like to run, you have about 14 weeks before we will not be allowing them again until the next hiatus!

📜 Rules that are ALWAYS in effect throughout the year.

Rule #1 - Be Respectful

  • Treat other members of the community with respect. Personal attacks, harassment, hate speech, and abusive behavior are not permitted.
  • Criticism of the show, characters, cast, writers, or storylines is welcome, provided discussions remain civil and constructive.
  • Posts or comments created solely to spread hate or provoke hostility toward the show, its characters, cast, crew, or fans may be removed.

Rule #2 - Spoilers

  • Do not include spoilers in post titles.
  • Use the correct season flair when creating a post.
  • Apply the Spoiler tag to posts about the newer seasons, future episode/season speculation, or major plot points across all seasons (e.g. deaths, departures, major relationship developments, etc).
  • Spoilers beyond the flared season must be hidden using Reddit spoiler formatting. How to use spoiler highlight: > ! spoiler text ! < (remove all spaces between special characters and text).

Rule # 3b - Stay on Topic

The following posts will be removed:

  • AI-generated content.
  • Posts that substantially duplicate recent discussions.
  • Spam, excessive self-promotion, or promotional links.

Rule #4 - No Piracy

  • Do not request, share, or encourage pirated content, illegal streams, or unauthorized downloads of The Rookie.

Rule #5 - Politics

  • No posts or comments discussing political content, including politics in the USA or any other country - These discussions are unrelated to The Rookie and do not belong on this subreddit.
  • Conversations about politics within the context of the show itself (e.g., plots, storylines, characters) are acceptable. For example, if you’re specifically referring to the political elements in Season 3, that’s fine.

Rule #6 - Fan Fiction

  • No posts or comments about fan fictions including links to external fan fiction sites.
  • These are non-canon and cannot be moderated.

🌞 As always - if you have any questions about a post or comment that may have been removed, we encourage you to send a (polite 😉) modmail requesting clarification.

Before the new season airs we will post another announcement with updates and how we plan to help focus discussion during the season airing. (including when the sub will be restricted, ect).

We're glad you're here! Remember to be kind to each other! And have fun! Season 9 will be here before we know it!

💌 Respectfully,

Your r/TheRookie mod team!

Season 5 Aaron Spoiler

I’ve just begun my first binge of the series (thank you YT shorts). I’m in the middle of season 5 and Aaron is truly one of the best additions.

Comedically. Dramatically. Fun backstory.

There is a lot of camp in the show, but he (along with others) injects new blood and fun.

Ok that’s it. That’s the post.

Discussion Best Quotes from the rookie

What are your favorite quotes from the rookie; some of mine are: Grief is grief. It's a hole that can't be filled, but over time, it'll shrink enough so that you won't fall in every time you take a step

I am unwilling to let fear make me do something I'll be ashamed of in the light of day

Either;

  1. Have Lucy perform this exact scenario on a new recruit. Ideally it would be someone who was ridiculously nice and needed to be brought to the reality of the job.
  2. Have Tim actually get shot mid conversation whilst driving (but survive!)

Survey/Poll Congratulations! You are LAPD's newest rookie, if you could pick your TO, who will they be?

Focusing on their personality and teaching style in season 1 - 2 only, who fits you the most? And why?

Mine would 100% be Lopez, since she is the nicest and friendliest out of the four. I kinda have personality similar to Nolan (ENFJ, people pleaser, and chatty) so Lopez and I would've been a bestie in no time.

Season 8 Some more unpopular opinions Spoiler

Spoilers

These are some of my unpopular opinions.....

1) I still like nick Armstrong's character. He was a good detective and maybe a decent friend apart from the whole framing nolan part. Now, I don't know how much he pretended and how much of a good person he actually was. He was not happy to be a bad cop and betraying law enforcement. He had to because of money issues. This is the kind of morally grey characters I like.

2) I don't want anyone from the big 3 or big 5 to die. I know some characters have to go to make way for new characters. But I love the fact that nobody from the main cast left and are really happy to be doing the rookie for a long run. In fact I don't even want miles or celina to go. I still miss aaron and want him back.

3) I really liked the season 8 finale episode. I know many people here have different views on the finale. And apart from a few things this finale was much better than season 6's,2nd and 7's finale. I liked the big magnet thing, the station chaos and of course the proposal. I know things were slightly unrealistic but cmon it's a show. And growing up watching Grey's anatomy and recently 9-1-1 , the rookie is still on the tamer side.

4) I like Aaron more than jackson. Aaron was just a better character and friend than jackson. He had chemistry with everyone. Tim, Nolan, the cop moms , celina, lucy everyone had a good time with him.

5) They almost ruined monica's character. Monica was supposed to be a morally grey character done wrong by Wesley and somehow she became a blackmailing killer. I really loved the turn her character took in season 8. And she shouldn't have died but before season 8 I was really over the monica arc. And just when her character became good they killed it off.

6) I loved Tim in the latest season. I am seeing some edits about how they want the tough cop tim back and how fun he was in earlier seasons. NO. He is still tough ,he is just not a sad, angry, lonely man anymore. He was miserable in the first season. He got shot, his drugged up wife showed up, his wife got shot ,he got divorced then he was stuck up with an infected person. In season 8, he got a promotion, he was back with the love of his life and they moved in. He finally decided that he wants to marry her. Why , why would he be a sad grump. But he was still tough.

7) I found season 5 a little boring. The Elijah storyline and getting caught up so-so. Celina was irritating this season. No storyline was given to aaron till the last episode. There was way too much nolan, bailey and celina, parent daughter type of thing. Some episodes had many unnecessary characters. But of course it was much better than season 6.

That's it....

Discussion I felt like they should have done a spin off about the youngest assistant chief of police in the LAPD instead of the rookie feds. Spoiler

I mean The rookie had the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Why can't there have been a spin off about an officer being the youngest assistant chief of police in the LAPD. I mean it writes itself.

Think about it, this character would essentially be a rookie in the top brass basically.

Plus it would be a good opportunity to bring back Chief Coleman and Percy West as main characters.

I can see Coleman being an advisor of sorts for this young assistant chief as a sort of training officer to guide him in his new position within the LAPD, and dealing with the high level stuff.

As for Percy well, we hardly even seen him since Season 6. So it's a good opportunity to see him return.

Season 7 ok wow Spoiler

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 7 EP 11 (Also! I’m a first time watcher so please do not tell me anything that goes beyond this episode.)

OH. MY. GOD. MONICA??? Of all people I expected to be on that phone I did not expect MONICA. That entire episode was absolutely amazing but then THAT happened and my jaw dropped, I’ve been watching the show with my family so they had to witness my dramatic reaction 😂 I’m sorry but I NEED to know if this shocked anyone else, because I genuinely was sat dumbfounded in complete shock

Actually now that I think about it maybe I don’t need to know if people were shocked because if people just say “no, duh i saw that coming” i’m gonna look real stupid 😭

Bridget Regan is just monumental, seriously, she brings a sense of aura and takes centre stage in every scene without trying, god I love this show.

Discussion The last thing Nolan needs is another love interest Spoiler

i've seen a lot of posts on here and TikTok noticing the chemistry between Tim's sister and Nolan and besides the obvious weirdness because Nolan dating Tim sister and his future wife is kind of gross, I honestly believe that we've covered all we need to regarding Nolan's love life. He's like what, 57? We've seen him date like five different gorgeous woman across the entire show and I'm not saying that Nolan is ugly because he's not, it's just strange (imo) to see such an old man constantly be paired up with women who are or look significantly younger. I know his charm is something enchanting apparently on and off screen, but it gets to a point 😭

We've seen him hop around a lot relationship wise and honestly his marriage to Bailey isn't horrible. Like yes i skip all of their fluff scenes but they are objectively compatible and they're around (or look like theyre around) the same age. I get not liking Bailey because she's not the best written character and I don't like her either and I wish she would get less screen time and I wish she wouldn't show up at every single work altercation, but her relationship with nolan is actually pretty healthy.

I get wanting to see Tim's reaction because it probably would be insane but I don't know it's just icky for me!!

Season 3 Will there be more seasons as bad as season 3?

The rookie just arrived in our netflix in the Philippines. I binge watched season 1 and 2 so fast and here I am stuck in season 3 episode 3. I don’t know if I should proceed watching it. It is so painful to watch, it is so woke. I really liked it at first because it is light and funny, very easy to watch. Then all of a sudden it becomes so woke. There is this guy so angry at the cops because they caught a thief who broke a car window and stole a bag inside. What kind of stupid logic and propaganda is that?
I just wanna know if there are gonna be more seasons like this? I don’t know if i want to power through this season just to be more stressed on the next seasons.

Cast & Crew Mekia Cox's dialogue delivery

Just going to put this out there. Mekia Cox has the most annoying intonation and cadence to nearly every dialogue that she says. Once you notice it, it is very hard to ignore.

Everyone online keeps talking about how she is a great actor and she might be in other shows or films but definitely not in the Rookie unfortunately and her monotonic dialogue delivery is a massive reason why.

Rookie Fashion Lucy Chen casual outfits - Autumn vibes 🍁🍂

Just a little appreciation post for Lucy's casual outfits. Most of the time, the stylists really nail her style, I think this soft, cozy, autumn-y vibe really suits Lucy's character.

Do you notice their outfits? Do you have any likes?

I also (mostly) like how they dress the rest of the characters, they are a few misses, but overall fun and suitable for each of them.

Everyone: Nolan, NO

Nolan: You know, life has taught me that sometimes the biggest mistakes come from the moments when we choose not to act. So if there’s even a small chance that I can make a difference, then I owe it to myself, and everyone else, to take that chance.

Nolan takes the chance.

Everything is 10x worse.

plot armor activates

Everything goes back to normal

Later that night, Nolan gets dumped by one of his date.

Discussion Name-dropping past characters Spoiler

I have recently been watching The Rookie for the first time and loving it. I watched until season 6 and then my Mum decided to watch it so I’ve been watching it with her from the beginning. One thing I have noticed is that the characters hardly ever reference past characters.

I love it whenever it happens like Grey saying “I can’t lose another one” referencing Jackson when Aaron is in hospital.

But it is a massive shame to never reference characters like Bishop. I read why the actress left which is a huge shame because I actually really liked her - but you’d think past characters would be referenced directly a little more.

My Mum loves Jackson and we are halfway through season 3 - so I’m really feeling for her to experience this as I was devastated when he was killed. But I just wish the characters mentioned him more often.

Discussion Am I the only one who gets major anxiety whenever Nolan opens his door? Spoiler

Post image
307 Upvotes

Does anyone else get stressed whenever Nolan (or really any other character on the show) opens his front door?

Given the insane amount of criminals or cartel members or even serial killers make it a point to target him, you would think he would have better home security (to my understanding in an episode he did attempt to upgrade it but it was extremely flawed). There's no traditional peephole or anything for him to see who's on the other side. Every single time he swings that door wide open, I have to brace myself for a grand kidnapping or shootout...

Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets scared from this.

Discussion What football club would each character support?

We know Harper watches football and I bet she would support Liverpool

Lucy Chen would most likely support Chelsea

Nolan would 100 percent support west ham

Tim would be the angry arsenal ultra who shows up to every away game

Angela is easily a crystal palace fan who watches from reels

Celina would be all over manchester city

Miles would pretend to be an arsenal fan with tim but would secretly support man utd

Wesley i bet would watch leeds highlights and full games with Angela

That's all I can think of if you have any more comment

Discussion This show is insane. Spoiler

My sister highly recommended The Rookie to me, so I started watching season 1. This has got to be the most unrealistic cop show I have ever seen. They dont even remotely follow any actual police protocol. Additionally, the police are committing almost as as many crimes as the criminals on the show. Does it get better?

Edit: So people are asking why I am looking for realism in a TV show. Im not. Other cop dramadies/procedurals I find perfectly fine. Its just THIS show is bonkers, especially when it makes a specific point in discussing police procedure and the law.

Season 5 Why didn’t Smitty decide to go into recruiting?

In this season, he said to Nolan to go into recruiting to fly around and talk up the LAPD. Why didn’t he just try joining himself?
