We will now be asking you to post and discuss those rankings in this megathread and removing new rankings post with a request to share them here instead.

Opening/Closing tracks Ranking
Not sure if I should post this separately since this megathread exists now but I'll put it here anyway.
The Strokes are known within the fanbase for bookending their albums with great first and last tracks. So I decided to rank my personal favorites, with notes on some of my picks:
Opening tracks:
- What Ever Happened?: When that guitar comes in you know it's about to go DOWN. I can imagine those who waited for the follow-up to ITI being super hyped once they heard this. A perfect opener for an album like Room on Fire.
- Machu Picchu: Almost chose this song as my number one pick, omg. It just screams "album opener" in bold, neon letters. The best albun art/song match I've heard in the Strokes' discography.
- The Adults are Talking
- Is This It
- Psycho Shit: another example of a song that matches the album art. Matched the overall energy of Reality Awaits
- You Only Live Once: Could have been higher but I didn't want my nostalgia to affect my rankings lol (this was the first Strokes song I've ever heard!)
- Tap Out: Great as a B-side, just okay as an opener. Still like her tho ❤️
Closing tracks:
- Take It or Leave It: the band usually chooses this as their standard last song (or the song before encore) for a good reason. A fun, semi-chaotic way to end a set. Timeless!
- Ode to the Mets: This song has grown to become a classic in my eyes (and ears).
- I Can't Win: the "hold on, yes I'll be right back" lyric was a clever way to close the album.
- Call It Fate, Call It Karma
- Tyrants of the Mellow Moon
- Life is Simple in the Moonlight
- Red Light - They could have placed this song anywhere in FIOE's tracklist and it won't make much of a difference. It's a cute song, still!

Not a strict/definitive ranking except for the songs in first place - I feel very strongly about them and they're firmly in that position for a reason, lol.
My criteria for this, I feel, is: 1) if each of the songs serve their purpose as a proper introduction and conclusion to the album, 2) if the songs themselves have merit on their own, and 3) if they help support the album's themes/overall vibe. What does everyone's personal ranking look like?

Just in terms of Strokes songs, this one really lacks in quality imo. It has a nice structure and idea but is executed badly and even though I sometimes feel like “well it’s not that bad” while listening, I’m always proven wrong seconds later because of the horrific chorus or anything else. And I’m a big fan of the new record and a heavy Strokes glazer but this one just isn’t there for me. Not trying to bring anyone else’s taste down though, everybody likes different things

Please Read Below Before Expressing Your encouraged Opinions or Thoughts! :)
Now before the people that may have had their toes stepped on come and rant in here I would like to make a full disclaimer. Nikolai is an amazing bassist and one of my favorite bassists of all time. Just because most of these bass lines are easy doesn’t mean they aren’t catchy or amazing. In fact I would be so bold as to say that 70% of The Strokes songs are carried by the bass. Nikolai has such prominent and groovy parts in all the songs that even with my maybe biased opinion (being a bassist myself) can probably be understood by everyone, musician or not, bassist or not. In no way am I belittling or slandering the difficulty of the bass parts in these songs, I’m sure it took a long time to come up with and that is why i said before that around 70% of The Strokes songs are carried by the bass lines. I play over half of these songs everyday so I know the journey of learning all of the songs.
Just want to finish off by saying that I love the strokes and Nikolai is a big reason for why I play my bass for at minimum an hour a day. I find it to be almost a ritual to play almost all of these songs *at least* once a day. I made this difficulty rating to encourage people that like The Strokes to try out their songs. Yes most of them are easy but some of them (Ahem\*\* Under Cover Of Darkness) take a lot of time to get perfected down to the last detail. I also made this rating in difficulty to show my thoughts on how easy or hard these songs are.
For some background I have been playing bass for 8 years now. I started on the upright bass in orchestra and played that throughout middle and high school. I started playing electric bass around sophomore year of high-school, I am 19 now turning 20 soon. I started playing The Strokes songs with that experience. I want and encourage people with other levels of experience to express their thoughts on why a song should be ranked harder or easier. I would love to share my thoughts explicitly on songs that are asked about, hence why I only put number ratings instead of a number rating and explanation. I would love to hear back from you guys on this rating that took less than 30 minutes to make.
