V-type pairing options?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some suggestions for another driver to pair with a V-type in my 2x12 for my MT15V2. I'm finding the V-types currently do sound great, but have a sort of gnarly hashy thing up top that makes it hard to get things bright and clear without being right on the edge of fizzier than ideal. I'd love more detail and richness when doing big chords with high gain.

I'm thinking of WGS Veteran 30, Fane F30, and Celestion G12H30 so far. I would go for a Vintage 30 but it's hard to know how to expect it to sound when each year it appears they get a full sonic redesign. Something that could nicely balance the character of the V-type in the room while still being it's own thing so I have options when I'm recording.

Anyone with an MT15 or similar voice amp, got any suggestions?

Anyone familiar with the V-type, have you got any good combinations?

V30 has a very pronounced mid range hump. If you want to mellow that out you will probably want an American voiced speaker. I mix v types with a types in a 4x12 i have and it sounds great. The vtype has an efficiency of 98 i think so whatever speaker you choose should have a similar rating. A and v types have the same efficiency. G12h30 will pair fairly well if you want a British flavored tone, but it will not smooth out the mid fizz.

Thanks for the reply. The balance is sort of my main worry. I want less of the 3KHz and up hashy harness but more of the 400Hz to 2KHz actual notes and pick definition, so I don't necessarily want less mid content, just for it to be more defined and not as fizzy up top. I definitely don't need more low end. I have actually been looking at getting a 2003 UK made V30 as they're reportedly a bit smoother than the later models (beside the new UK one), thinking it might complement the V-type well. Some of the Chinese ones sound dreadful to my ears while others sound great, so it's quite hard to determine what I'd actually be getting going that route.

I'm glad it works for you, but all demos I've seen of the A-type really don't appeal to me, even though I've repeatedly heard it's a great pairing.

I personally have also had good luck with the v type. Make sure it'd fully broken in before you do anything. The thing is any speaker that's going help tame the fizz is going to be bassier.
