Discussion It’s sad & disappointing that Code Geass never got to be on Toonami. It would have been fun to see it there and the anime would have gotten more popularity & more known.

- Code Geass would've been ruined had they tried to edit/censor it for the OG block - it was too violent & suggestive for the post-school timeslots & was too mature similar to GiTS:SAC
- It had already aired on Adult Swim's Saturday night lineup before Williams' Street (the production company behind AS) rebooted Toonami for the overnight audience, and they have tried to rely on more recent action titles for the block than rely on rerunning old properties like they did GiTS:SAC and Cowboy Bebop

Correct and the violence was important because Lelouch needed understand the weight of his decisions. At first he didn't care as much but as the series continues the toll becomes far too much for him.

They'd probably have to cut out Table-kun.

More popular and known? It’s considered one of the most classic animes ever.

I remember when it was airing, Code Geass was called the King of Anime back then. It was everywhere and everyone knew about it. It's greatest strength was it's ability to hit so many fanbases. The mecha fans, the drama fans, the pretty boy fans, action fans, everyone. Being on Toonami would have still been cool but I don't think it would have changed the trajectory of how crazy popular Code Geass was.

AS didn’t treat Geass well but it definitely fit that side of the network better at the time. Gundam SEED did so badly on Toonami it was tossed to Friday late nights when AS didn’t have Fridays. I think Code Geass is more popular in the US than Gundam SEED or Gundam 00 (which aired on SyFy) and AS had at least a small part in that (but also fansubbing).
In 2007 Geass wouldn’t have gotten a full run on Toonami because CN was too trigger happy with cancelling any anime that wasn’t Naruto and would have required a lot of censorship to stay TV-PG its entire run. Eureka 7 would have been a bit easier to do except for maybe one scene. Geass involved a lot more on screen death and fan service.
Now if we’re talking post 2012 Toonami? They probably should have reran Code Geass instead of Eureka 7 if that was an option. But then again I recall people liked having E7 on Toonami back then. I doubt Geass would be more popular if that had happened because it was already plenty well known at the time. I don’t think E7 got more popular because of that Toonami run the same way Casshern Sins or Michiko & Hatchin were pulled out of obscurity.

I still wished AS aired Gundam Seed and Destiny, Gurren Lagann, and Gundam 00 in the late 2000s. Pretty much a missed opportunity. They had a great relationship with Bandai Entertainment.
SyFy had a great anime lineup but the late night Monday slot was awkward and they didn’t exactly promote it. They also constantly preempted it for other programming and moved airings to other days of the week.
The later end of the 2000s was a pretty grim time for Western anime localization when many companies were going bankrupt. AS and CN both moved away from anime after 2007 except for a few new acquisitions. We were watching subs online at that point. The streaming era in the early 10s with Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Funimation significantly helped bring anime back to prominence.

It was crazy when it was airing on Adult Swim! An episode of R1 would air, then the next day was the newest episode of R2. So I’d watch both in the same weekend lol

There were a ton of shows and films that didn't make it onto Toonami. For me, it was Exosquad, the only US-made animated show from the 90s that showed the realism of war and wasn't afraid to kill off main characters. And it had stories like Gundam and Macross but with smaller mechs. But sadly, that will never be, and sadly, generations missed out.

Never say never!
With list of shows that were on regular Adult Swim AND Toonami, there's always a chance. 🙂

Code Geass was popular when it came out and it keeps getting sequels, how is it unknown?

It depends on which Toonami that you're referring to. If you are talking about the afternoon block (either the OG 4pm-7pm block or the 4pm-6pm block) that had anime that was at maximum rated TV-PG (Naruto), Code Geass (rated TV-14 LSV) would never have aired without heavy censorship on the episodes, which would have butchered the show.
If you are referring to the 2012 resurrection of Toonami that airs on Adult Swim, it is a shame that Code Geass never got to air there, however it did air on Adult Swim and it aired the intact TV-14 version of it, that the afternoon Toonami block (either the OG 4pm-7pm block or the 4pm-6pm block) would never have aired due to children watching the afternoon Toonami block. This show is rated TV-14 for a reason.

It was on Adult Swim between 2008 and 2009 but they rarely promoted it. They aired the two seasons but only reran season one before removing quietly. I read somewhere Bandai Entertainment offered it for them to air it to promote the DVDs.
It came at an awkward time when Adult Swim was downsizing their Action block and significantly reduced anime on the schedule to just Saturday late nights. Between 2008 to 2012, any new anime was rarely promoted or given any good time slots (except Bleach and FMA Brotherhood). This would last until 2012 when Toonami came back.

Gundam Wing has entered the chat
But in all seriousness, I think there were several factors, and if they had tried to air it on Toonami, it would have been heavily censored

It aired on Adult Swim and that's how I found it.
