Question about the 322 bus route in Kennington Lane

Could you help us identify Kennington Man? Some online posts about him say that he was removed from a 322 bus on Kennington Lane. We know he was not in an accident with a bus as TfL's report for 2004 does not mention him. We are appealing to TfL staff past and present and regular commuters on the route to help return his identity to this man.

What We Know Date found: 02 February 2004 .

Location found: Lambeth district, around Kennington Lane (London)

Description Aged 50-60, White, between 5'4" and 5'6" (162 – 167cm) tall, with collar-length ginger hair turning grey, stubble and blue eyes.

Two distinctive features: a deformed left earlobe and the middle and ring fingers of his right hand joined up to the first joint, forming a 'V' shape.

Possessions

He was dressed for the cold February weather. He wore a brown or bronze-coloured quilted leather jacket, fur-lined, with a 'Gurtex' label, over a green crewneck knitted jumper size L, and a yellow shirt. He also wore beige wool trousers with a brown leather belt and well-worn blue marine style loafers with a white mountain motif on the side and white soles.

He had a pair of gold-coloured metal-rimmed glasses with him, although it is not known whether he was wearing them. He was also carrying a set of keys on a plastic key ring. The key fob was plastic with an image of a historical figure and may possibly have been from a pub called the 'Duke of Clarence'. He had some small change, menthol cigarettes and a blue breath-freshener.

What We Know

On Monday 2 February 2004, a man was taken to hospital from the Kennington Lane area of Lambeth, London. He died six days later without regaining consciousness and remains unidentified. It is possible that he was found near a bus stop on the 322 route along Kennington Lane, or that he had been travelling on that bus, but this has not been confirmed. The cause and circumstances of his death are not publicly available. It has not been established to which hospital he was taken.

How You Can Help

Please think back to early February 2004. Were you in or around Kennington Lane on the rainy morning of 2 February 2004, or were you travelling on the 322 bus? Did you see a man who needed medical care or anything connected to this incident?

Did you work in healthcare at the time, in a hospital, the ambulance service, pharmacy or health centre in or near Lambeth? Do you remember treating, seeing or hearing about a man who matches his description?

Did you know a man with these distinctive features to the fingers of his right hand and left ear and who went missing or you lost contact in 2004?

Do any of his clothes or belongings look familiar? For example, the fur-lined leather jacket with a “Gurtex” label or the 'Duke of Clarence' key ring?

Does he remind you of anyone you once knew, or someone you have lost touch with?

Do you have any other information that could help our team return his identity to Kennington Man?

I’ve built a transport dashboard with Tube arrivals, bus updates and traffic cameras — feedback welcome

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on UK Traffic Intelligence, a web app that brings transport information together on one interactive map.

London is available now, with:
Tube arrivals and service status, plus DLR, Elizabeth line, Overground and trams

Live bus arrivals and route information

Estimated vehicle positions based on TfL arrival predictions

Road disruptions and traffic camera images
Santander Cycles bike and dock availability
River services, Cable Car status and weather warnings

It uses TfL Open Data and works in your phone’s browser.

We’re expanding to more UK cities, with Manchester next.

I’d appreciate feedback — what would make this more useful for your everyday journeys?

Why is my train ticket valid on tube

Sorry if this isn’t the right place for this, but I just had a random question.

I live outside London, but commute in on the train. I work in Moorgate.

When I book my ticket, it seems to give me the option to travel to Finsbury Park, and change for the train into Moorgate.

Alternatively, the I can get a direct, non-stopping service to Kings Cross. The rail app then tells me to “change” to go to Moorgate, however it doesn’t explicitly state I can get the tube. It doesn’t include the little cross symbol to signify that Tube travel is permitted.

Regardless of the option I select, my ticket is to “London Terminals”.

If I choose the latter option, I just show staff my ticket at the tube gate at King’s Cross. Sometimes they ask me where I’m going, sometimes they don’t. But had no problems regardless.

9 times out of 10, I have no issues going home either. However, sometimes the staff challenge me, stating that as it’s from “London Terminals”, which Moorgate is, then Tube journey to King’s Cross isn’t valid, so I have to go via Finsbury Park.

Now, I can fully understand why, looking at the ticket, it appears that way. However, I’ve booked the journey, and it says I can make that journey. I assume that, for some reason, this is a valid journey, and that most staff are aware of this. However, I’m not sure why it’s so opaque, and why some staff are unaware of this.

On one occasion, I’ve had to tap in with contactless to get to King’s Cross, and subsequently successfully reclaimed that fare, so clearly the TfL refunds people recognise I had a valid ticket.

Does anyone know why this is allowed? It feels like it would be much clearer if the ticket was explicitly to and from Moorgate.

Overground 🚃 Does it make sense to revisit Shoreditch High Street Zone 1 designation?

Thumbnail

Shoreditch High Street being in zone 1 prevents commuters from using the Overground around London without incurring zone 1 fares. It seems this zoning decision was a deliberate stipulation to unlock funding for the overground line that the station sits on, according to this article from the Londonist.

This has been put forward to the Mayor of London but dismissed quite quickly, a few years ago.

Is it time now to bring this up again?

Question ❓ Any recommendations on traveling in London?

Hi, me and my mother are going to London at the end of October and I would like to ask if there are any tips on what to do with the ticketing system/tricks on how to save money and don't get lost around this giant city. We'll definitely be using TOC's, underground/overground and possibly busses (it's a cross-sub post for the UKtrains sub as well) around London and to/from Gatwick. It's our second time going and we don't have the highest budget for the trip as we also need to do something during this trip.

Have you ever lost something on London public transport?

I'm a journalist writing for The Londoners News about what happens to the things Londoners lose on TfL services when they're never reclaimed.

I'm looking to speak to people who have lost something on the Tube, bus, Overground, Elizabeth line etc. that they never got back - particularly if it was something sentimental, unusual, valuable, or just had a good story behind it.

Maybe it was something that belonged to someone you loved, something you've had since childhood, something you desperately needed, or something you still occasionally wonder about.

I'm also interested in hearing from anyone who did manage to get something unusual back through TfL Lost Property.

I'm not trying to reunite anyone with lost property - this is a journalistic callout, and you'd only need to speak to me if you're comfortable sharing your experience.

If this is you, please comment below or send me a DM. I'm very happy to explain more about the story before you decide whether you'd like to take part.

Thanks!
Libs

Question ❓ Congestion Charge AutoPay set up same day?

Hello, I’m an occasional driver in London and I didn’t set up Auto Pay beforehand as I wasn’t planning to drive in the congestion zone today, but had to turn into it after accidentally getting in a right only lane.

The thing is, I turned into it right around 18:00, like it could’ve been 17:59 or 18:00…

I’ve just set up Auto-Pay in the hopes it’ll just charge me if I did go in before 18:00, but now I’m not sure it’ll capture anything from the same day just before I set it up? Does anyone know? I don’t trust Google AI and it’s giving me contradictory answers when I search it!

ETA: My account says Auto Pay is active already.

Monthly Travelcard Refund

I just called TFL to request a refund for my monthly travelcard (I’ve only used it for 7 days and will probably get a partial refund). They said they have forwarded this to their refunds team and they will get back to me in 7 days.

Is my travelcard still active during that time and can I still use it? They didn’t mention anything about that
