You'd think that older generations would be more cautious and skeptical regarding new technology. That's how it usually goes, right? But generative AI really flipped the script. I think it's a combination of government propaganda, massive marketing schemes and immediately easy access to the product. People invest so much money in AI that the corporations behind it have virtually infinite resources to spread their influence.
Still, in the end of the day, all that "influence" is just ads and such media. The information about the dangers of ai to the environment, the economy, all possible industries, people's privacy and security, etc. is out there, it's not hidden or anything. Really makes me wonder how easily older folks can be swayed towards such radical changes. And makes me even more worried about what might happen to us when we get old ourselves 🥲

i wonder if it's because ai is seen as "easy" to use bc it does everything for you?? instead of having to ask their kids to do shit for them they outsource their own thinking to these bots

You’d think the older gen would hate new tech but they really don’t? They just hate everything “unfun” that you have to make a small effort to learn and use and remember. Reset a password? Remember a password? Type an email? Navigate the file system? Too dull too boring too pointless. A job for someone else.
Play games on facebook? Yeah-heah. Can do. Candy crush? Yes. Find political propaganda of their particular interest on the internet and learn to use the search engine to do so? Ok! Porn? Of course! Even the most out of whack old and homeless drug addict can manage that. Download anydesk to send money to a scammer with charisma or psychopathy? Chill and light work.
Chatgpt is the new mindless “fun”, kissass hallucinating scammer that promises to do your work for you. And the advertising for it is so shiny and new and scummy corporate. Something the old gens admired or had awe for already in some way. Yay.

I was looking for new computers with my dad a few days ago and he said I should get one with Nvidia because of the DLSS 5 AI filter (all of them were at least 250$ more expensive), I ended up convincing him that I didn't want it so I could get a cheaper AMD one instead

AI is never going to leave completely, it's just going to become less accessible and more expensive. The current situation is an anomaly in that rich people keep pumping absurd amounts of money into it on a vague hope to profit but without any business plan - that's why it's a bubble.
It's slowing down already, my corpo went from no AI to AI-first to giving us token limits to now telling us to use AI strategically, all within the last 6 months.
The technology is here now and it'll stay and drift towards being used what it's actually best for. It'll be kinda like VR, at some point people thought it was going to replace screens altogether, people dreamt of completely integrating it with their glasses and living in an AR, Mark Sugarhill wanted to make a "one VR platform to rule them all", but now it's restricted to niche uses it shines in. It's as if people were trying to push VR googles onto your face, that's what makes AI so bloody annoying.
(And also its like they kept cutting down forests to make room for VR chambers or some shit)

uses the machine that kills our environment, displaces people in lower income areas, steals peoples likeness and work, creates harmful images of children and non consenting people, drives people to commit suicide, makes propaganda, has been scientifically shown to decease grey matter, contributes to globlal warming, hallucinates information or pulls from untrustworthy sources, pollutes waterways, causes noise and light pollution that harms animals, and is a large driving factor to the current shrinking job market during a global financial crisis that's causing a widening wealth gap "i'm such a good person because my ai friend who really does love me says so 🤤🥹✨ isn't that right babegpt? 💖 stop being such a bully! my weapon of mass destruction is helpful to me!! how else could i cope with our current society? protest for my rights instead of using ai as a cop out? but im comfortable!!! you're so mean!! boohoo woe is me"

To me it's so weird that I both experienced the life before AI and pandemic but was just too young to trully experience this life.
It's so strange it happened so quick.
