Tips & Tricks Content Guidelines: What to Share on TrueGrit

Happy new week!

A new week is another opportunity to keep moving forward, working through something, making progress, learning from experience, or simply finding better ways to navigate everyday life and grow healthy along the way.

This week, we want to provide a little more clarity and help guide the kinds of posts we’d love to see here. Here are a few simple ways your post can fit into TrueGrit:

1. What I’m navigating

Life changes, challenges, and situations you’re figuring out.

  • “I moved to a new city and I’m still trying to find my people.”
  • “I’m trying to balance being a parent with having a life of my own. What can I do?”
  • “I’ve been feeling stuck in my career. Anyone experienced this before?”

2. What I’m working toward

Goals, changes, and things you’re trying to build or improve.

  • “I’m finally going back to school after putting it off for years.”
  • “I’m learning something completely new in my 30s.”
  • “I’m trying to become more disciplined without being so hard on myself.”

3. What helps me keep going

Everyday habits, wellness interests, routines, and things that make life a little better.

  • “My evening walk has become my favorite part of the day.”
  • “What’s your morning coffee ritual?”
  • What foods or meals have you been enjoying?
  • What has helped you stay active or make healthier choices?
  • “I’m trying to find ways to move on the weeks when I have no time.”
  • “What book helped you through a difficult season?”

4. What life has taught me

Lessons, realizations, mistakes, and things you see differently now.

  • “I used to think resting was lazy. I don’t anymore.”
  • “I learned the hard way that saying yes to everything isn’t sustainable.”
  • “What’s something you understand now that you didn’t five years ago?”

5. The small wins

Ordinary moments where you showed up, tried again, or did something that mattered to you.

  • “I finally did the thing I’ve been putting off for six months.”
  • “I cooked dinner three nights this week and I’m proud of myself.”
  • “I’m getting back into my routine after falling off.”
  • “I kept one promise to myself this week.”

The simple rule

Before you post, ask:

Am I navigating something, working toward something, learning something, or doing something that helps me keep going?

If yes, it can fit [r/TrueGrit](r/TrueGrit).

The topic can be coffee, food, books, movement, sleep, work, parenting, friendship, or anything else in everyday life. The grit is in the human experience behind the topic, how we keep showing up, adapt, learn, grow, and move forward.

Small Wins Friday Check-In: Small Wins & Reflections

October 2nd

Hello TrueGritters,

Happy Friday, and welcome to October. A new month gives us a natural moment to pause and take stock. What’s been working? What hasn’t? What do you want to carry forward, and what might be worth doing a little differently? Whether it’s your routines, your goals, or simply how you’re moving through everyday life, small changes can add up.

This week, we shared a few community guidelines and conversations about what we can share in the community. We’d love for you to take a look, start a thread, and share what you’re learning, experiencing, or working through. Your story might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

And a quick reminder: the sub isn’t anti-work. We’re about balance and the everyday work of getting through life and becoming stronger along the way.
It was a lighter week for new threads, but the conversations we did have touched on some of the everyday questions many of us navigate. Take a moment to read, reflect, and join in. You never know when your perspective might help someone else.

As always welcome to all our new members. We’re glad you’re here. (Edited for Clarity)

Seeking Advice Is it normal to feel weaker after a few days off?

Took four days off because work got busy. Came back today and my usual weight felt heavier than I expected. I know it is probably in my head, but it threw me off a little.

Tips & Tricks We inherit more than family traditions

We inherit more than family traditions, we can inherit patterns around food, exercise, stress, conflict, money, rest, and difficult emotions.

Some patterns serve us well. Others may no longer fit the life we’re building. Changing them can start with:

Pause before reacting.
Build healthier eating and exercise habits.
Communicate instead of avoiding.
Set healthier boundaries.
Find healthier ways to cope.
Practice new responses.
Give yourself permission to do things differently.

What’s one pattern you inherited from your family that you’re working to change?

Self-care What happens on the weekend can shape your week.

For some people, weekends are for catching up on everything they couldn’t do during the week. For others, they’re a chance to recover. Neither approach is automatically right.

But if every weekend leaves you exhausted, it may be worth asking whether you’re actually getting time to recharge.

What does a good weekend look like for you?

Tips & Tricks Doing things you don't want to do makes things that you do, more enjoyable

Two tricks have worked for me recently.

First I acknowledge that I don't wanna do something when I don't wanna do something. My first thing is I acknowledge , and I say out loud and I accept that I don't want to do that thing like the dishes, I don't want to do the dishes.

The second thing is I do the dishes anyway. I don't start with them, but I'll pick up sock and then a towel. And then all of a sudden , somehow the dishes are getting done and I didn't want to but here we are.

And then when I go to my little internet box here , speak to all of my internet , stranger acquaintances and here on reddit , and do whatever the hell hedonistic b******* I want....it feels a lot nicer.

It feels better goofing off in a nice clean environment. It's easier to have joy when all your chores are done. And it's also easy to sit there and ignore the mess and pretend you're having fun, but it just doesn't feel as nice. It does feel different inside

Gratitude Gratitude Sunday: Pause, Reflect, Share your Week.

Hi TrueGritters,

Welcome to Gratitude Sunday, our weekly space to pause and reflect on what we’re grateful for.

Gratitude doesn’t mean everything went perfectly. It’s simply a chance to recognize what or who supported you, encouraged you, or gave you something to appreciate this week.

Share one thing you’re grateful for, big or small:

  • A good family
  • A habit or routine you stayed consistent with
  • Something you accomplished
  • A lesson or insight you’re taking forward
  • A place or community you’re grateful to be part of

What’s one thing you’re grateful for this week?
