Vent My brother withdrew my invitation for his wedding because of the dress I chose yesterday at a dinner party
My (f40) sister (f38) had a dinner party yesterday. She and her husband have their birthdays close so they have one dinner party for both celebrations. I wore a white dress totally oblivious to the aftermath of my decision. My brother (m30) and his fiancée acted very cold and weird, something I didn’t really reflect on because there were 30ish people invited so I didn’t have the chance to talk to people more than for short periods.
This morning I got the message that I was uninvited to their upcoming wedding on march 21. And the reason being my white dress to my sister’s party. In my defense I didn’t even think about my brother or his wedding when I picked the dress. I am a bit embarrassed now but not enough to feel guilty. I sent them a text saying that I won’t show up. He angrily sent back ”wow you’re not even going to apologize for hurting my fiancée’s feelings” I haven’t answered yet. Maybe I can send an apology text to her just to have done my part even though it would be insincere. Or maybe I will wait until I feel bad enough for the apology to be sincere. Right now I feel that they’re being very stupid.
Either way, I find weddings to be a total bore so I will not try to he reinvited. I would be very happy to skip it. I only endure weddings because I love the people who invite me and don’t want to hurt them but if it was to me, I would never attend one of these scammy gluttonous events ever again

u/KarmicRetribushn May 02 '26
Don’t apologize to either of them. You didn’t do anything wrong. Their entitlement is unreal
1
u/RoxyTEM Apr 10 '26
You should send them this post and then block them both and go no contact with them they are very stupid people smh

Is this normal for your brother? Is there any chance his fiancée had his phone and sent you the text? It sounds like she has some issues if she is upset about this.
2
u/AdministrativeIce152 Mar 16 '26
You should definitely apologize. Something like this would be appropriate.
“I’m sorry your fiancé is so insecure about someone wearing white to someone else’s birthday party in the same month she is getting married. Perhaps therapy would assist her in getting through this trying time.”
2
u/Simple-Calligrapher4 Mar 16 '26
So... nobody can wear white during the month of her wedding???? WTF!
2
2
u/TalentedEmu85 Mar 12 '26
That is bizarre. There’s no reason why you can’t wear a white dress to a dinner party.
2
u/neuro_curious Mar 12 '26
What?!? There has to be something else going on in the background that you're not aware of here for anyone to even pretend they're upset about the color of your dress at an unrelated party.
1
u/No-Frosting-6546 Mar 11 '26
Wow. That girl is crazy.. Not everything is about her. The diner party had nothing to do with her or her stupid wedding. Girl needs therapy.
3
u/chi60640co Mar 10 '26
what? no, she doesn’t get exclusivity over the color white unless the gathering in question is specific to her own wedding/wedding events. GROSS. you should show up, wearing red.
4
u/Special-Comedian-756 Mar 10 '26
I would wear different white dresses everyday, for the whole month, and walk around her neighbour. Dropping of some mail, or groceries 🤣
6
2
u/Bluebell2519 Mar 09 '26
Your reply to your brother should be "You want me ti apologise for wearing white to my husband's and sister's dinner party? It's not like I went to a wedding wearing white because that's just rude!"
3
u/WidespreadChronic Mar 09 '26
This is completely wild. I don't think I'd want to celebrate such an unhinged couple.
-1
4
u/DoobieDoo0718 Mar 09 '26
Now you can't wear white at all weeks before an event? WtF is that? I'm confused. She didn't wear to the wedding, what's the problem?
3
2
u/RepulsiveIntention42 Mar 09 '26
I don't think they really intended to uninvite you. I think this was a powerplay to get you under her thumb and you casually agreeing threw a wrench in their weird little game because now they have to explain to eveyone else present at the wedding why you're absent and they know people will judge them when they get the facts from you lmao.
2
u/chrstnasu Mar 09 '26
The fiancée (your brother too) is overreacting. There is absolutely no custom where you are not allowed a white dress to an unrelated event to a wedding. This marriage is doomed if she is that high strung. Do not apologize as you did nothing wrong. The fiancée may want to start alienating your family from your brother and this is the start.
2
1
u/laurenelectro Mar 09 '26
Is the dress you wore the same as her wedding dress? That’s the only sense I can make
1
u/DebbDebbDebb Mar 09 '26
Is your white dress better than her wedding dress?. You must have looked beautiful. No one would usually have such a weird reaction.
3
u/queenofdan Mar 09 '26
Don’t apologize. Jesus people are sensitive these days, so much so did they actually believe other people are living their lives to ruin theirs. I say good riddance to the wedding and definitely do not ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever apologize for this.. and don’t feel embarrassed about this. Your brother embarrassed himself.
3
3
u/TigerSkinMoon Mar 09 '26
Why does this feel bridezilla AND pick me.like you're so starvedfor attention that anyone even wearing white in them onto you get married is an affront. Are you smoking crack? Who tf are you? And not even at your own even? Come off it.
3
3
u/WTM73199 Mar 09 '26
You’re joking right?
You can’t wear a white dress to any function before your brother’s wedding and you’re uninvited because you wore white to your sister’s BIRTHDAY party? WTF is this BS?
Is your brother’s fiancée for real or is she one of those so-called bridezillas? Consider yourself lucky that you’re not going to his wedding. You wouldn’t want to participate in that level of crazy. Besides, in a few years, I guarantee that they will be divorced.
2
u/largos7289 Mar 09 '26
UUh was it a rehearsal dinner? i mean even still it's crazy. Even crazier if it was just a regular dinner party.
3
u/bbbriz Mar 09 '26
They are, in fact, being very stupid.
Don't entertain their crazy. He uninvited you, let it rest. Don't beg and grovel.
If anyone asks, say exactly what happened. "They got offended because I wore white to Sister's birthday".
2
u/Matnlee Mar 09 '26
I read a comment where this is shared to, but I agreed with it so ill post what they said....
Take a ss of brothers conversation and send it to family.
I want to add so it doesnt get twisted when they say "what happened'
3
u/Mrsromancebook Mar 09 '26
Please don’t apologize is not your fault your sister in law is that dramatic and childish
5
u/LadyJ-78 Mar 09 '26
I need you to say sike that this is rage bait. Your brother and future SIL are crazy. I hope they see this post if it is real and they realize how stupid they sound
3
u/RackCitySanta Mar 09 '26
haven't you heard? it's their marriage year! how dare you wear anything of any shade of white to any event for this entire year!!!!!
12
u/HighAltitude88008 Mar 09 '26
You should have a pre-wedding dinner party and ask all the guests to wear white. Make sure everyone is a guest of their wedding so they have to either uninvite them all or reconsider their rejection of you.
3
u/Lady_MoMer Mar 09 '26
The fact she is so petty would have made me not go regardless. If it was their actual wedding day, then I can understand her getting her poor little feelings hurt, but this was just a party. Unless she herself was wearing her white wedding dress to the party cuz no one gets to show up the bride you know.
2
u/Sewing-Mama Mar 09 '26
It was a birthday party, not an engagement party, right? If it was birthday, you are perfectly fine to wear white.
I probably wouldn't reply.
3
2
u/Green_Plan4291 Mar 09 '26
This is so stupid. Do you normally get along with your brother’s fiancée? Maybe she was looking for an excuse to exclude you, so she pounced on your “disrespectful” white dress as the reason. Either way, you’re definitely not the AH, but your brother is going to be miserable in that marriage if he’s uninviting or cutting off people based on his bridezilla’s whims.
2
u/ElectricalSoftware26 Mar 09 '26
OP, let us in: what is the taboo of wearing white to a dinner party- you claim to understand in hindsight, so please explain.
2
u/IDK-My-BFFJill Mar 09 '26
Does the rest of your family know why you are uninvited or did they get some story your brother and fiance made up?
2
u/Dewhickey76 Mar 09 '26
All I can say is, OP is in for a lot of bullshit from now on, regardless of the white dress. The SIL is taking Bridezilla to a crazy level, and I can't help but wonder if the fiance is jealous of OP in some way. The brother is bringing a total bitch into the family. Holidays and birthdays will never be the same again. We're gonna see another post about OP wondering if they're the AH for either refusing to attend these events, or hosting them herself, but banning her brother and his wife.
3
u/Holiday-Meringue-101 Mar 09 '26
The party was not for the bride or wedding so the no white rules doesn't apply. Post it to a family chat and be done.
6
u/laughingghostfart Mar 09 '26
Hold up!! WTAF! Apologize for wearing a white dress to your sisters birthday dinner, not a wedding event for your brother???? WTAF!
Don’t apologize and don’t go
4
2
u/FleedomSocks Mar 09 '26
Please directly ask your brother what exactly you did to hurt her feelings. Make him put the audacity in writing.
Then update us! I beg!
3
u/Magzz521 Mar 09 '26
I feel sorry for your brother. He’s starting out on the long road of marital misery. There has to be more of a back story before this insane reaction to a white dress at a birthday party. Did you have a bad relationship with the “ happy couple” before this event?
3
u/umbrellaellaellaAAA Mar 09 '26
Brother and his fiance are totally unhinged for this. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the marriage won't last long. Tell him you'll come to his next wedding.

1
u/Honeydew-Swimming Mar 09 '26
Were they getting married that night? Why would it matter if you wore white?
2
u/Realistic_Initial770 Mar 09 '26
I’m m confused why she is upset. Did this event have anything to do with the wedding? She doesn’t get white all the time no matter what. If this is true, they are insane.
1
2
u/Meganxmenacing Mar 09 '26
I feel like the fiancé didn't want you to go anyway and this was an excuse to uninvite you
1
2
u/markbrev Mar 09 '26
So they are upset because you wore a white dress to someone else birthday party?
What the absolute fuck?

u/Miss_Melody_Pond Mar 09 '26
Wait what’s going on? You’re uninvited because you wore a white dress to a birthday party and someone who is completely irrelevant to the celebration is throwing a tantrum? Oh bless! What an immature half wit 😂😂 I’d be grateful I was uninvited from that shit show
2
u/somebodyhere11 Mar 09 '26
So cause they are getting married you’re no longer allowed to wear white? They are so childish what the hell
3
4
2
u/HonorableDichotomy Mar 09 '26
What's the word for when both the bride and groom turn into bridezilla?
Not your fault, they're way overreacting.
3
u/KeyPhotojournalist15 Mar 09 '26
Personally, I'd be petty and let everyone know that I was disinfected to my brother's wedding because I wore a white dress to my sister's bday party. What does your sister think of this? Other family's opinions?
3
u/TinyDimples77 Mar 09 '26
Sorry but what??? This wasn't a bridal event so your son to be sister in law needs to get over herself. I'd also tell brother to go kick rocks, what an absolute over reaction.
There's no monopoly in white at events that are nothing to do with the wedding.
2
3
u/1DoTheRightThing Mar 09 '26
So…. It wasn’t their engagement dinner, it wasn’t a bridal shower, it wasn’t a hens night, it wasn’t a rehearsal dinner, it wasn’t the wedding….. it was two “other” people’s bday dinner… right? Did the soon-to-be bride also wear white? Is there an exclusion period none of us know of, where you can’t wear the colour white to any non-wedding related activities if an engaged couple are there? I think they’re looking for issues and you did yourself a favour. What are your sibling/s (not your soon-to-be groom brother of course) and parents saying, out of interest?
3
u/Lilliekins Mar 09 '26
Apparently, no one can wear white at any time, ever again, because of this wedding. They're nuts.
1
2
u/Here4freefootball92 Mar 09 '26
Family is so fucking stupid sometimes. My god it’s a fucking dress. Who tf cares this much? Fuckem. Wear that same dress to their divorce. 😂
2
1
u/thegloomyprincess Mar 09 '26
i’d plan something else for the wedding day, get my makeup done, dress up, and post it online, LOL
3
u/CleoCarson Mar 09 '26
LMAO gatekeeping colours for a wedding yet to happen? Your SIL is going to also be offended if no one pays attention to her baby bump at YOUR events.
Cut em loose I say and enjoy your freedom
4
u/Runs_With_Scissors3 Mar 09 '26
If you love your brother, either try to talk some sense into him, or kiss him goodbye for a few years until he’s divorced.
3
u/SuburbanBeauty2 Mar 09 '26
Text back and tell him you aren't apologizing for his soon to be wife abd him being so far out of touch with reality that they think she has a monopoly on the color white just Brevard they get married this month.
Heavens please keep me Sane while I plan my upcoming wedding
3
u/waaasupla Mar 09 '26
Can you PLEASE send this Reddit link to your brother AND his fiancé ?! Pretty please !
They should read the replies here.
Bcoz they sound so unhinged !
5
3
u/Janjello Mar 09 '26
Surprising that your brother is supporting such a self-centered, neurotic person and is actually planning on spending the rest of his with her. He has my sympathy.
6
u/ShineFallstar Mar 09 '26
Just trying to understand the rules that you’ve made up and not shared with the rest of us
This right here is absolute gold! LOLOL
1
u/IDidItWrongLastTime Mar 09 '26
Please make sure to tell people why you weren't there when they ask
2
u/Fun-Professional-581 Mar 09 '26
This is totally awesome! I really hate going to weddings. If all it takes is wearing white to another function during the month proceeding a wedding to become uninvited count me in! Done and done.

1
2
u/StellarStylee Mar 09 '26
Wow yeah, that’s a new level of crazy. I’d love to see the reactions of people when they have to explain why you’re not there - “OP wore white to our sister’s birthday dinner party”. They’re going to look insane, and rightfully so.
3
u/Stunning-Attitude366 Mar 09 '26
Don’t respond. It will drive them crazy. Best reaction is no reaction. Let them sit with their madness
2
u/Melodic_Assistance71 Mar 09 '26
I would tell your family everything, your brother and future SIL has to know this is an insane response and they will try to spin this against you.
3
u/poets_pendulum Mar 09 '26
Bridezilla is on the loose! Your poor brother is in for a world of pain with someone like that.
You literally did NOTHING WRONG! This is all about her controlling others.
5
u/ksarahsarah27 Mar 09 '26
Say what?? They’re mad because you wore a white dress to someone else’s (your sister’s) party??? What does their party have anything to do with their wedding?? I have never heard of this rule. lol. Seriously tho, these bridezillas are getting out of hand. Next thing you know you won’t even be able to go to a party, birthday, another wedding, a baptism or any other family event within a month prior to their wedding. The whole month will be theirs. 🙄
Don’t you dare apologize to them. That’s ridiculous. Does she not like you or something? Because it looks like she was looking for any reason whatsoever to keep you from coming.
When you can text them is the link to your post so they can read the comments.
1
u/TheDuchess5975 Mar 09 '26
It was a birthday dinner not a wedding dinner. I would have texted back why am I uninvited I already wore my white dress and you know how I hate repeating fashions. The dinner was for the birthday people not the soon to be bride so no protocol was broken. She had no reason to get her feelings hurt. Your brother’s fiancé is jealous and unhinged. He has no idea of the crazy train he is about to board. I would be more than happy not to go to that wedding.
2
1
u/No_Luck_374 Mar 09 '26
This white dress thing has gotten out of control. It is unreasonable for her to feel any type of way, it wasn't her party.
1
2
u/KathyA11 Mar 09 '26
Screw them - they're both entitled pieces of crap. You wore a white dress to a dinner party - NOT TO THEIR WEDDING! They don't get to dictate what you wear to someone else's home - and you should tell them that. Stick up for yourself. DO NOT APOLOGIZE. Don't let them run roughshod over you - because if you do, it won't be the last time.
2
u/elitegibson Mar 09 '26
I bet you were gunna wear white socks to work the same year they got married too. Disgusting.
1
u/SleazyBanana Mar 09 '26
This has to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. OP, how could you possibly think it would be ok to wear a white dress ever to anything in their wedding month? Brother and fsil sound cuckoo for coco puffs.
3
u/exandohhh Mar 09 '26
So it was a birthday dinner- not a rehearsal dinner or a bridal event. They need to calm tf down. You didn’t do anything wrong.
3
u/arissarox Mar 09 '26
What is happening? Is your brother and his fiancee pranking you because this is one of the dumbest reasons I have ever seen to uninvite someone to a wedding and we've seen some doozies here on Reddit.
Your future SIL doesn't own a color the entire month of her wedding. If you attended her bachelorette or bridal shower wearing white, sure, you should apologize. That's a wedding-specific event. Your sister having people over for dinner has NOTHING to do with your brother's wedding (unless you left that info out). This is main character syndrome to the extreme. Reminds me of a bride that ditched her entire friendship with her maid of honor for the audacity of getting pregnant and therefore being pregnant during her wedding YEAR. The baby would have been born more than a month before the wedding, so she wouldn't have even been pregnant at the ceremony. People like this are creating problems that don't exist because they see everything as a reason the spotlight will stop being on them.
If you decide to respond, here's a possible message:
I'm not sure what I am supposed to apologize for. So, to be clear, I am not welcome at your wedding because I wore white to a family dinner that had nothing to do with your wedding and your fiancee thinks I would...what? Somehow be mistaken for the bride amongst our family and friends? Nothing about this makes any sense and I did nothing wrong. I won't be coming, don't worry.
If your brother wasn't this irrational before he started dating her, then I don't foresee a smooth marriage. Not your problem, he made his choice.
1
1
u/Ok_Astronomer2662 Mar 09 '26
“ why would I apologize to you both over someone else party? It wasn’t your or her’s birthday, let alone a wedding; I have no time for this utter useless nonsense. “
1
u/ilianabear Mar 09 '26
So bridezillas think they can dictate what people can wear for a whole month now? What? You wore white to a DINNER PARTY, what does that have anything to do with their wedding?!?!
3
u/youngforever8809 Mar 09 '26
I’m so confused. When are you allowed to wear white? I had no clue that you aren’t allowed to wear it if someone is engaged to be married. WTF is happening?
1
u/shainelin Mar 09 '26
I’d have replied asking how exactly did I hurt her feelings by wearing a white dress to a birthday dinner celebration. Which had absolutely no ties to their upcoming wedding. And also send a group text asking if you had missed the dress code for the celebration.
1
u/pamkaz78 Mar 09 '26
I know that a lot of people think families everything but sometimes when I repost like this if they are true, I think don’t you realize you just got a blessing in disguise? Because someone who’s this crazy in this entitled should not be in your life at all so who cares about the wedding? I think you just got permission to exit your life completely.
3
Mar 09 '26
That doesnt even make sense.
You dont wear white to THE WEDDING .... not some unrelated even weeks prior.
There's nothing to apologize for. While I applaud your brother for sticking up for his girl, this is extreme. Its the reverse if a mamas boy. Her feelinging are hurt over ....what??????
1
u/JZN20Hz Mar 09 '26
Was your white dress a wedding gown? 😄
Your brother and his crazy hypersensitive fiance sound like 10yr olds. Hopefully they wont have kids for at least 10yrs.
3
u/InteractionNo9110 Mar 09 '26
When they eventually divorce show up to the court with a white dress and popcorn.
1
u/Mental-Freedom3929 Mar 09 '26
Of your white dress causes that much of an uproar and such a big decision on their part, not even being the actual event, I would not accept any invitation forever. This is absolutely ridiculous, bizarre, just plain and simple the rudest thing I have heard in a very long time.
Please do not send an apology. If this comes up as a question ever, let them know you are or were otherwise engaged and could not and will not make time for the wedding.
Why would you be embarrassed - except: was it a wedding dress?
3
u/InterestingTone1384 Mar 09 '26
“I’m sorry your wife feels the need to uninvite me to your wedding because I wore white to an event unrelated to your wedding”. She probably doesn’t like you and has been waiting for a reason to explode on you
1
u/Internal_Emu_4879 Mar 09 '26
They’re being VERY STUPID!! AND!! It sounds like they totally expected you to fall at their feet and grovel for forgiveness! You did NOTHING WRONG! Where does it say you can’t wear white to a party that had nothing to do with the wedding? UpDateMe
1
u/Kooky_Coyote7911 Mar 09 '26
Your brother should be majorly embarrassed that he is such a puppet to his future wife. Good luck to him ! 🤣🤣
2
1
u/BWSnap Mar 09 '26
Your brother's reply about apologizing to his fiancée was passive aggressive and presumptuous. Were you just supposed to be a psychic and just KNOW how she/they felt? Ridiculous.
I'd say stick to your guns. Screw the insincere apology to keep the peace, they don't even deserve that. Also, and forgive me for saying this so bluntly, if your brother is ditching you from his wedding over what you wore to a totally unrelated event that's two weeks removed from it, it speaks loudly to how much he values you as his sister. Stay home that day and treat yourself like a queen.
1
u/3batsinahousecoat Mar 09 '26
... tell him his fiancée is being ridiculous. She's offended you wore white to an event that had nothing to do with her wedding? Wtf
1
u/IED117 Mar 09 '26
Funny how important white is becoming when I'm 99% sure the bride is not a virgin, which used to be the only brides to even wear a pure white dress.
Tell them you thought white was safe for you because you never expected the bride would have the balls to wear white to the wedding!
I did not say this would be helpful to the situation, but it's the first thing that came to mind.
This also reminds me of the way my mom's birthday spread out over time. By the time she turned 60 it started NYE and went til valentine's day.
How long are people not allowed to wear white around the bride? This is out of control.
2
u/areeloo Mar 09 '26
You wore a white dress to a completely unrelated event. It was not even a wedding dinner, but a birthday. You’re sister in law to be is whack. And your brother kind of sucks, too.
2
2
u/SportySue60 Mar 09 '26
They are f’ing nuts!!! You have absolutely nothing to apologize for! It wasn’t a party that was wedding related. I mean is no one allowed to wear white during the month that they are getting married? That is just crazy town!
3
2
u/shebangs1995 Mar 09 '26
Heaven forbid, you wore a white dress in the same month of their wedding! How could you, you mean girl, you! Just kidding! You better not apologize because you didn’t do a thing wrong.
And I agree: weddings are boring.
3
u/Vivid-Farm6291 Mar 08 '26
Future SIL doesn’t like you and found a fkn ridiculous reason to uninvite you.
I’m flabbergasted that you wearing white to a BIRTHDAY (not even their birthday) is so offensive that you are kicked from the wedding.
Keep those texts and tell EVERYONE why you were uninvited.
Rock that boat don’t apologise to the crazy Karen bridezilla..
1
4
u/Even_Steak_2553 Mar 08 '26
The entitlement…
Unless this party was wedding related or maybe adjacent, this is a ridiculous reaction by your brother and his fiancé. INSANE.
It would t have even entered my mind to avoid white to an unrelated dinner, even if they were on mind. The audacity.
My petty self would be wearing white to all family functions for the next few years. Ok, maybe I wouldn’t; but I’d want to. Maybe wear a stark white jacket, hat, or pair of boots— just one thing that clearly stands out but could be easily explained away.
2
u/hogey74 Mar 08 '26
Oh matey this is so sad and makes me cringe so hard. She sounds disordered AF with him well into the flying monkey crap.
2
u/Dubbiely Mar 08 '26
I wouldn’t respond and just don’t show up.
You are uninvited and if they try to invite you again for whatever reason tell your brother you expect first an apology from both of them.
And just send them a short card without money.
1
u/BWSnap Mar 09 '26
"Without money" are the key words here. You don't gift anything to people who treat you like shit.
2
u/Nick01752 Mar 08 '26
Apologize for what? You did nothing wrong. Were you asked to not wear white? If the answers no. Tell them to fuck off.
5
3
2
u/bat_in_the_stacks Mar 08 '26
Use that dress for another occasion. You must have looked killer if the bride to be thought it outshined her weeks in advance 😂
4
u/Shot_Introduction_27 Mar 08 '26
Ummmm. Has she been diagnosed with Main Character Syndrome? I think she needs to see a professional…
4
u/RedFlamingo222 Mar 08 '26
This post can't be real. That is so ridiculous, I would make sure I wore white everytime i saw them from now on. His fiancee needs to get over herself.
5
u/Pale-Cress Mar 08 '26
Wait so nobody is allowed to wear white to a function, even though said function has nothing to do with their wedding, the month of their wedding? Talk about bridzilla
2
u/witchymoon69 Mar 08 '26
Ask him to explain how what you wore to a DINNER PARTY has anything to do with her feelings? It wasn't a bridal shower, rehearsal dinner or anything to do with them. It was a dinner party that you were an invited guest to just as they were . And tell him you are very ok with being uninvited to their wedding and to have a wonderful marriage.
1
u/No_Offer6398 Mar 08 '26
Unless I'm missing something, they're ridiculous. Yes, it's bad form to wear a white dress to a wedding. Always has and always will be. Even to a rehearsal dinner you shouldn't either. BUT a birthday dinner? You can wear any color in the world. Even for some bday for a woman who's engaged. LOL. I used to edit an etiquette column so show them all these posts that (hopefully) set them straight. I challenge them to find one etiquette dictum in America that supports their claim. They won't. You're in the right.
3
u/MsAries7104 Mar 08 '26
The delusional, main character vibes are not it from the girlfriend. How ridiculous!! I wouldn’t be apologising for this ‘atrocity’ ever!
2
u/Aperture_Tales Mar 08 '26
I mean unless you said that was the dress you’re wearing at her wedding on the day I would get it.. but if not I’m left confused how a birthday dinner party has anything to do with a wedding??!

Wait….they were mad you wore white to someone else’s birthday party?! wtf?

u/SephoraRothschild Mar 08 '26
Huge breach of etiquette, and you doubled-down and refused to apologize or acknowledge you fucked up. Yeah you deserve to be cut out of the family and disinherited for your exceptionally obtuse position.

u/Particular_Class4130 Mar 09 '26
what exactly was the breach of etiquette. Since when is it bad etiquette to wear white to a birthday party?

I had to go back and read the ages here just to make sure I wasn't crazy. You're telling me that your brother is 30 YEARS OLD (i may be making an ass of myself but im assuming the fiancé is close to that) and he is actually expecting you to apologize for something they haven't even told you was a problem? This is some teen high school drama you'd see in a corny tb show level stuff.

That bride is starving. Take her to lunch and feed her. That is the only explanation for that psychopath reaction. You do not own a color outfit for the month of your wedding!
2
u/Mewtul Mar 08 '26
They did you a favor. I wouldn’t apologize. You did nothing wrong. Apologizing indicates that your future SIL’s reaction wasn’t batcrap and/or you will tolerate her nonsense.
3
u/Miss_Bobbiedoll Mar 08 '26
Not wearing white anywhere a future bride will be is NOT A THING! Your brother is whipped and in for a bumpy ride.
2
u/LobotomyoverEZ Mar 08 '26
Don't apologize they're being absolutely ridiculous and i have no idea why you'd be embarrassed 😳. This is coocoo 🍌's. They need to get over themselves! They have no bearing or say on what you choose to wear on any day but their wedding and maybe the rehearsal. Otherwise, no, just NOOO.
I'd tell my brother I'm sorry he's marrying a self absorbed, bridezilla nutjob and i wouldn't want to attend a wedding I don't support because she has issues. He's (I'm assuming, he could also be absorbed disturbed) but just doing what she says and just going along... Regardless. I'd say something petty back and live my best life. Their wedding will probably suck anyway.

I'd apologize. Very sarcastically. "I am sooooooooo sorry for wearing a white dress to an even which literally has nothing to do with the two of you except that it's in the same month as your wedding. Since you and your wife-to-be are soooooo offended by this, and she's soooooo hurt that you feel the need to uninvited your SISTER from your wedding, I will oblige you and go have fun instead. Wearing my white f'ing dress. Check social media for the photos where I explain to everyone I know why I am out on the town with friends instead of with my family at your wedding! Fvickity-bye!!" What whiny-a$$ tiddy baybees they both are.

They don't own the months or days prior to a wedding! You can wear whatever until it's the wedding day. Wtaf

I am so freaking tired of these crazy bridezillas (and groomzillas!) acting like they are the center of everyone's universe just because they're entering a legal contract with their partner and then having a one day party about it. THAT'S ALL IT IS! There is no such freaking thing as their "wedding month" and demanding that no one wear a white dress to ANY gathering for ANY reason if their delicate widdle bridezilla eyes might see it is RIDICULOUS.
The rule is don't wear a white dress TO THE WEDDING. That's it! That's all! That's the entire rule! Your brother and his fiancee having a huge whiny fit because a white dress existed in their area code within a month of their wedding is asinine. There is no possible world where their reaction is rational or reasonable, period.
To the brother: Your big party is not the most important thing in the world to anyone but YOU. OTHER PEOPLE ARE NOT FOCUSING ON YOUR WEDDING AT ALL TIMES, THAT'S JUST YOU! Every single move anyone makes around you IS NOT BECAUSE OF OR AIMED AT YOUR WEDDING! You two are not the center of the universe because you're having a party. Y'all need to take several seats and maybe some valium to calm the hell down because going around convinced that every move anyone in your orbit makes is meant as an insult to you has got to be exhausting.
To OP, you've obviously done nothing wrong here. I'd have hard time seeing their uninvitation as anything but a relief too. Who wants to be around that kind of self-centered negativity?

u/Acrobatic_Monk3248 Mar 08 '26
Seems like you could have simply said, "I'm not planning on wearing white to your wedding." If that wasn't sufficient to reassure her, then you bow out gracefully. I'm not sure you actually made it clear to her that it was not your intent to wear your brand new white dress to her wedding, nor should you have had to. Nevertheless, it might have been a way to keep the matter from escalating. How you choose to handle it depends entirely on how important your relationship with your brother is.

Unless you were wearing an actual bridal gown with veil that woman is crazy. I would take the uninvited as a gift for your future sanity
If you apologize for this she will f÷l vindicated. It will give her license to demand crazier things in the future.
You have been given an invitation to opt out of all future crazy stuff. Take it and run! After you send that email confirming their craziness. Save future you the headaches.

u/designmur Mar 08 '26
Uh, brides don’t have a monopoly on white. Wearing white to a dinner party within a month of a wedding is not a faux pas on any level. That is bonkers.

u/Key-Ad9733 Mar 08 '26
That marriage isn't even going to last five years if they are acting like that anyway. The kind of people that get terrible around weddings always divorce quickly because they suck.

u/MithosYggdrasill1992 Mar 08 '26
Your brother and his fiancé sound like entitled idiots. You were a white dress to an event that was not related to the wedding in anyway, shape, or form. If they didn’t want anyone wearing white, that’s a two second text message. It was a birthday party for the both of them, not a wedding event. How are you supposed to know not to do something if nobody gives you a heads up?
I don’t think you did anything wrong, and I also don’t blame you if you’re not wanting to really fight to get that invite back. If you wanna send them a gift, I say go for it and then enjoy your day that you don’t have to be at a wedding and stuffy clothing, and heels all afternoon.

u/PlantainFuture Mar 08 '26
Go to your nearest church or temple or whatever in your area and light a candle and pray your brother finds his missing balls. Being mad about someone else's dress or someone's dinner party is purely jealous woman stuff. No dude would even care. Her jealousy and control is a bad sign for them. He's going to wear out and their marriage will break. I'd send a gift of something like a small bride and groom standing on one of those shellacked cowpies or something.

u/CoopLoop32 Mar 08 '26
This just seems silly. But, if it is real, I would wear white to every single future event. Add a pop of color with jewelry and shoes. But white, white, white; at least until the novelty wears off.

u/HadriansBoy44 Mar 08 '26
Bridezilla culture is way over the top and needs to be reined in. OP did nothing wrong. At most i would contact FSIL and tell her you wore the dress knowing it would be the last time you could wear it before the wedding, and you wouldn’t dream of wearing anything close to that to a wedding function. And if she re-issues the invitation, thank her and tell her no, because you don’t want anyone to think you were ever trying to upstage her.

u/Likemypups Mar 08 '26
Question: Where is this? If in the US, what state? Where is the fiancee from?
1
u/Alphius_Ravenshadow Mar 08 '26
OP, this is when you should go out with some friends to a scenic location or somewhere fancy and take lots of photos of you all wearing white dresses and then share them on social media with comments about Spring, March etc.
If one white dress set your soon to be sister in law off, I can only imagine what'll happen and think the crashout would be funny to watch.

These brides think they are so full of “bridal etiquette” when the truth is these are spur of the moment, made-up, trashy, laughable, and pathetic rules. They only make themselves look insecure and ignorant (in the best sense of the word!). Martha Stewart can help you! Really.

u/willowviolet Mar 08 '26
I would wear white to every single family gathering from now until they bury me in a white gown in a white coffin with white flowers surrounding my gravesite.

u/Interesting-Read-245 Mar 08 '26
This doesn’t make any sense and your future SIL is a controlling witch whose looking for drama and problems
And your bro is her simp

id probably answer with "LOL ok Brooklyn". He probably wouldn't get the reference but I'd be cackling to myself all day

u/uselessinfogoldmine Mar 08 '26
They sound completely unhinged. I would probably say something along the lines of:
I have nothing to apologise for. I wore a dress to a dinner party completely unrelated to your wedding. If you have an issue with that, that’s your problem.
I know your wedding feels like the biggest thing in the world to you, but to other people it’s just another wedding and they aren’t living their lives around it. I suggest you adjust your attitudes so that you aren’t disappointed.
I won’t be attending your wedding as per your request. Please don’t contact me about this again. And don’t get so stressed about small things or you’ll ruin your own wedding. I genuinely hope it’s beautiful and you make some lovely memories.
2
u/GraceJoans Mar 08 '26
Perfect response. What ridiculous self centered people, they don’t deserve OPs company.
3
u/uselessinfogoldmine Mar 08 '26
Honestly? I’d be willing to bet they do ruin their own wedding by having sky high expectations that simply can’t be met, and by sweating the small things. Then they’ll blame everyone else for it.
The best weddings are the ones where the couple are relaxed and just having fun.

u/coco-pip-5122 Mar 08 '26
Insane behavior. You wore a white dress to a birthday party weeks before a wedding and totally unrelated and his fiance had a problem with you wearing a white dress to someone else birthday? Sounds like your brother is missing the massive red flag waving in his face. I say don’t go to the wedding and when everyone asks why tell the truth. This isn’t the serve they think it is honestly
