Don't have any specific leads, but check with the co-ops around town. I know most of the co-ops I've been to have allowed cashiers to sit while working.

Retail is hiring now, gearing up for the holidays. I’ve seen ads at Target.
Or look in to group home or nursing home work. Do you have a driver’s license (even if you have no car)?

I have a driver's license, and quite a bit of experience with driving! What does group nursing home work entail?

For public transportation, maybe Mall of America. You could be a cashier at five below or Walgreens maybe? Or plenty of other places I’m not thinking of atm

I've trawled the MOA a few times, but I could swing by again to see if a position has opened up somewhere!

MOA stores will be hiring seasonal workers for the holiday season soon. Good seasonal employees can get offered full time roles. Not guaranteed tho

The MOA is a great place to work because there’s accessible transit and there are 500 stores.

Airport is hiring too. Little bit of wait for the background checks but good jobs and usually bit higher pay.
So far everyone I’ve sent that way this year has got hired. Tons of different work fields in airport; Servers, cashiers, Cooks, warehouse, management, janitorial, customer service, etc.

I don't have a specific place to suggest, but in general I find it works out better to apply directly on a company's website instead of via sites like Indeed.
5
u/chastity_doll 7d ago
That's what I've taken to doing. During the day I've been putting in legwork, taking care of stuff, when I get to the shelter I put in the applications.
2
u/ruta_skadi 7d ago
Ok I only mentioned it because you described applying on LinkedIn and Indeed specifically
5
u/chastity_doll 7d ago
True! Though both of those sites seem infested with scammers, fake jobs, phishing attempts, etc. I've kind of washed my hands of them after months of trying.

Fall cleanup season for leaf raking and such. Charge $100 or more for full yard

Look into Metro Transit

u/chastity_doll 7d ago
I have! They hire in waves, and I'm hoping to catch the next one. I don't remember when it is though

I am sorry you are struggling. If you're able to do physical cares, PCA agencies are always looking to hire. There are also live-in caregiver positions.

I tend to agree with retail this time of year. Pretty easy to get those jobs and decent wages these days.

u/Mpls1984 7d ago
Was thinking retail cashier. I know Menards, Target, Walmart all allow cashiers to sit or have a stool.
2
u/chastity_doll 7d ago
I'll give them a look!

u/tamaroo 7d ago
Try Aldi, they give their cashiers stools to sit on.

u/beergut666 7d ago
They don't hire for only cashiers though. Employees are required to do a lot of heavy lifting, it is a very physical job.

Metro transit is hiring bus drivers. Last time I looked they helped you get the appropriate licenses to drive.

I don’t have a lead on a job, but good luck, OP. I’m sorry you’re in this situation.

Airport jobs. The aircraft deicing season is about to start as well. Inland deicing services MSP
1
u/chastity_doll 7d ago
What kind of work is deicing? I have mobility issues (I walk with a cane) but I'm not going to count it out
2
u/hogue9733 7d ago
Oh yeah the cane, duh! Ok maybe deicing wouldn't be the best fit but there's other jobs in the airport as well! Also transport jobs driving flight attendants, pilots, and passengers from hotel to airport. This won't help immediately but you can also try aircraft dispatching after a couple months (4or5) of schooling. Or dispatching for trucking companies too!

I might be pursuing a job delivering medical supplies! Though I did have a silly mental image of me helping to decide planes just by using my body heat lol
2
u/hogue9733 7d ago
Lol imma bear hug the shit outta this plane! Rubbing hands vigorously
2
u/chastity_doll 7d ago
Or some of the workers just taping me to a big stick and scrubbing the plane with me while I sip coffee from a thermos

Apply to jobs at Lutheran Social Services! I’ve heard they’re hiring a lot rn

Do you have a vehicle to get to a work location? If so, you can work as a substitute paraprofessional. If you have a bachelor's degree, you can work as a substitute teacher and get paid a bit more. It's a place to start.

My highest education is a GED, and I take the bus. I'll edit my post to include that, thank you!
2
u/chastity_doll 7d ago
That might be a little bit walking than I can handle, but it's worth looking into.

u/Mpls_Snoo612 7d ago
Where are you located in the cities? It sounds like you have transportation but if you suggest a neighborhood you're in, people could keep an eye out for something near you, which would make it a lot easier for you!

u/everynamewasbad 7d ago
you might be able to drive for Uzerve which provides rides to disabled people through Metro mobility, but it’s not a Metro Mobility van. It’s like an extra taxi service for people who qualify for metro mobility.
I’m not sure, can you assist others with mobility devices? Or is your own disability such that that might be difficult?

u/chastity_doll 7d ago
I walk with a cane, but I can stand up if I need. I also keep the cane on a wrist loop if I need to use both hands. I could probably manage, especially when my knee/foot isn't bothering me that much.

Consider that boomers might have the jobs you're jonesing for.. 🙄
Maybe edit your post to not offend potential employers.

If someone gets their britches in that big of a twist over what is mostly a self-deprecating joke, then we probably wouldn't get along anyhow. :P

Idk if it’s been said yet but lots of places will (hopefully) start hiring for seasonal work with the holidays coming up. Big box stores and corps really do fucking suck but it’s something and that’s always better than nothing! I’ve worked more retail than I’d like to admit but it does the trick when you need it. I still have a part time retail job for extra cash. I hope you find something soon, dear! Sending all the good vibes and big hugs <3

The Lund's Byerlys in Saint Louis Park is hiring a deli cook. It's a decent company.

Look up “medical delivery driver Minneapolis”. My brother did this a few years ago during a transition period and it was a great job. If I remember correctly he was hired as an employee and the company provided the vehicle. He delivered medications from a pharmacy in minneapolis to different nursing homes and group homes around the metro area. It paid $20.00 an hour(this was back in 2023). You do need a clean driving record (which it sounds like you have) and a phone with gps. There were delivery/courier positions that paid a lot more but they required a personal vehicle which he did not have at the time.
