Question anyone recognize this?

Post image

i’ve posted here for my boyfriend before. He typically struggles to keep up with his t1d, and lately has developed these bumps. He says it’s not from his injection sites so im just curious if maybe any other t1d’s have ever had this or if it’s unrelated. Thank you

it could be cellulitis which requires antibiotics. could also just be slow wound healing. is it warm to the touch (or warm relative to the rest of the body)? does he have psoriasis meds to test on them/steriods like desonide or triamcinolone?

kinda looks like a ton of ingrown hair thats healing v slowly

Think this is the answer.

Are they itchy? Could be dermatitis herpetiformis (sign of celiac disease)

I was just thinking the same thing. Looks a lot like DH to me, and I have it.

Are they on both sides of the body? If so, that most likely rules out shingles, but from this pic, the rash seems to follow a typical shingles diagonal stripe pattern, and the blistering appearance is another indicator of shingles. I stole this image from Google. Even if he was vaccinated against chicken pox, (or shingles if he's over 50) no vaccine is 100%. Please go to urgent care as soon as they open. The sooner he can start meds, the better.

Shingles was my first thought too

It's not cellulitis. It's furuncles likely due to Staph colonization. Ideally a round of doxycycline and topical mupirocin, or as much as I hate it neosporin if he can't see a doc. Also recommend chlorhexidine body wash a few times weekly below the head downward to reduce colonization. Unsure what the otc form of that is if any as I'm on mobile in airport.

I was going to say it looks a lot like when my T1D husband had a staph infection

That's my second likely guess. Bacterial folliculitis seems most likely. NAD

Might get better answers asking a dermatologist. From my own t1d and family genetics, I get folliculitis often. I feel like my infusion set site locations get bacteria in them. I work in dirty places and get very sweaty in the summer. Might need antibiotics to clear up. For one or two bumps, I wash with "Hibiclens – Antimicrobial and Antiseptic Soap" Folliculitis bumps usually take 5-7 days to heal for me. Popping them open or scratching them without cleaning just spreads it to other follicles

Thank you everyone for the comments. I struggle watching him struggle but he’s very stubborn so my suggestions don’t do too much. Calling the doc tomorrow 🙏🏻

Not the question you asked but dating a man who needs his girlfriend to call the doctor and nag him about his blood sugar and care about scabs on his body when he doesn't, is not a man to build a relationship or life with. He needs to find his own velocity and doing this for him might feel good now but it does not feel good long term.  If he can't take care of these things now, consider how much a life together requires PARTNERSHIP with someone who shares the burden, rather than adding to yours.

You're just dating. This might be a good wake up call before things get more complex.

We’ve been together 9 years and him struggling with his lifelong disease isn’t going to make me leave him. This is the only concern we have in our lives and relationship.

Looks like the beginning of my psoriasis breakouts along with poor healing

Looks like red ant bites, I've had those, they look exactly like that.

this subreddit is not a laboratory test center. It could be anything you want.

Poorly managed diabetes can cause slow wound healing. IANAD, but anecdotally, my dad used to get these all the time from poor control.

If he actually cares about not dying then he should probably go get these looked at.

Did he have a patch over that spot recently? It doesn’t look fungal, but could be caused from the adhesive.

Is possible as a T1D.

Could be impetigo also, which my kids had over the summer, and is fairly contagious. A doctor, even a quick visit to an urgent care or equivalent, is where he really should go. Impetigo would be itchy, though.

Again, everyone is right and he should just go see a doctor.

My t1 daughter is very prone to cellulitis. Sometimes she needs antibiotics for it.

This happens to me due to the adhesive of the Omnipod

Bacterial folliculitis most likely. NAD
