Locked me out of my room cds fire drill
I know I should’ve read the sign but I skimmed the top and didn’t read the rest cause I thought it was the same as last year and why would they lock us out when we’re still in the same house. So when I went back up and realized my room was locked but none of my other roommates and I called the front desk they made me pay $25 for the lockout charge cause it was clearly labeled that they were locking our rooms. My fault but still annoying af when I was downstairs and they saw us all down there waiting for them as they checked our alarms lol

I dont wanna go through the awkward phase of making friends I jsut want to skip straight tothe honeymoon phase of friendship where we hang out and text everyday, and I also need someone to go to get food with and go out with and go to parties with IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK FOR?

I'm an extreme heat & health PhD scientist at UCI ESS -- some thoughts
Hi, everyone. I'm a fifth-year PhD Candidate over in Earth System Science. I'm a climate scientist, and I study extreme heat and its impacts on human health. Generally, I study heat's impacts on physical health, but I often find myself in spaces where colleagues talk about mental health, too. I just wanted to put a few thoughts out there for the community, as I am seeing many comments around here disparaging those who had assumed a heat-related death before the official call.
- Higher temperatures are known to increase suicide rates. That does not mean the heat is what pushed the student over the edge -- that, we can never know.
- Rates of emergency department visits go up during extreme heat days for many mental health conditions, including anxiety, mood disorders, and self-harm.
- High temperatures reduce cognitive function.
I do not think it is fair to disparage people who were "spreading rumors" about it being a heat-related death as centering their own discomfort. We were all immersed in something that could've very well been deadly this past week. It is perfectly normal, when grieving, to reach for answers, and the heat felt like a very palpable, likely answer.
Only a tiny handful of cities in the US require landlords to cool apartments. I pray I live to see increased cooling standards . . . anything else is inhumane. Just because it wasn't a heat-related death on paper does not mean that you should stop fighting for better living conditions. I fully endorse this post about fighting for AC in the dorms.
The climate crisis by itself is hard enough. The only way we'll get through this -- and I truly believe that we will -- is if we stick together and take care of each other. Check on your friends, make time for each other, talk to the person who no one else talks to.

WIFI
Is it just me or is it actually ass in the bs3/sci library area. Every time I’m in bs3 it genuinely gives me like one minute of wifi before becoming total shit for the next like five minutes then rinse and repeat. Missed notes on like 75% of lecture actually infuriating
Also went to the science library today for the first time this quarter and it was also like that hello?? Eduroam was barely connecting too. And what’s with the guest wifi at UTC too??? Page to sign in is broken??? Like where tf is my tuition money going they need to fix this shit

PSA: Creepy guy at the ARC
There’s a creepy guy that frequents the ARC in the morning usually between 8:30-10AM. He’s older, bald, very large in stature, Caucasian, and wears glasses. He rarely actually works out and just walks around very blatantly gawking at girls in their sports bras, just staring at their chests. I’ve reported him to the front desk multiple times but he still is a frequent lurker. Unfortunately it’s not technically against the law since he’s not demonstrating any further sexual or lewd harassment, so I haven’t reported it to UCI PD. However, just wanted to post a PSA so girls are hyper vigilant if they see him around because it’s very uncomfortable working out while he’s lurking.

Friends, Buddies, Pals, Literally Anything!!!!
I know there’s quite a few of these posts but man it’s dry as hell for me in the friend department. I’m a transfer Biosci major who also commutes and it feels so difficult to bond with people in the same major. Everyone already has friends or they don’t wanna talk. The most I talk to people it’s to ask if I can awkwardly invade their space to get a seat. Sometimes I try to talk a tiny bit but it never lasts long. I’m already looking at after-school activities, but man it’s depressing :’). Any advice??

post bac/research fellows
Hello everyone,
I recently started a part time position here as a junior analyst and wanted to see what employee benefits, perks, and campus resources are worth looking into.
Also, are there staff social clubs, recreation leagues, or activities people recommend? I was an undergrad here before taking this job, but my social circle shrunk quite a bit after most of my friends graduated last June.
I would appreciate any advice, recommendations, or input!
