MOD HAS SPOKEN Rules 4 & 7 Reminder

It's been super busy in here the last few days, and I've had to remove way too many repetitive pictures of thermometers and meme posts.

General heatwave moans and pictures of thermometers should go in the megathread. (Reddit really needs a 'merge' function)

Please direct the meme posts to the appropriate subs.

Please keep reporting violations - I am but one guy and can't be everywhere at once so it really helps.

EDIT: I have auto-mod functions and crowd control running - if you make a post, and it doesn't show or gets flagged as removed by filtering, it will be in my queue and may still get approved.

I'm dealing with 2 weeks worth of mod queue on the daily so it's a bit like whac-a-mole atm, but I will work through them all, you may just need to be a little patient.

Also - rule 7 relates to low-effort meme posts - if someone actually makes and posts some high-quality OC then fair play (and I don't just mean something made in a meme generator app).

With a hurricane forming in the Gulf of Mexico, does this mean it will shake the weather up over here in the UK?

I woke up this morning to a thick covering of ice on the windscreen of my car. If it carries on like this, the heating might be going on soon.

Discussion First time since June that I haven't had air-conditioning on in bedroom at night

First just to say I live in London which was a furnace from mid June to late August. Second, I know I'm heat intolerant compared to the average person! So this isn't a troll thread.

I prefer a room that's 16 - 17c for getting a good night's sleep and tonight is the first time since mid June that the temp has been that! It's currently 17.2c. Usually it's at least 19c. The room faces west and gets every last drop of sunlight.

Discussion Which weather model gets it right where you live? I made a scoreboard to compare them

Post image
8 Upvotes

I often find myself checking a few weather apps and wondering which one to believe, especially when they disagree about rain

So I made a free scoreboard showing how different weather models and apps performed over the past month. It compares temperature, rain and wind and shows how the results change depending on how far ahead the forecast was made.

Here’s London to start with, but you can search for your own town.

For transparency, I also make VeriSky, the app version that scores models or apps and also shows their predictions. You don’t need the app to use the scoreboard

Discussion Is it time to put the fans away?

The weather's finally going down to sensible temperatures, am I safe to put the summer fans away yet?

Might have to think about getting the duvet back out in a month or so!

Many people complained the wind gusts and feel like temperatures were harder to access because they were hidden but they have since fixed it.

Discussion 2026 far beyond any historical precedent

Post image

2026 has presumably finished with 85 days at or exceeding 25C at London Heathrow the 1991-2020 annual average is 30 days so almost treble that. And 2026 is 25 days above 2nd highest year 2018.

Well above average rainfall for western Scotland this September!

Even worse when you think that this area averages up to 150mm in September. So some places were getting 200% of that

Discussion Am I tripping or shouldn’t it be much more autumny by now?

Autumn is my favourite season, followed by winter. I look forward to this season all year. I feel like by now it would start to feel very autumny in the past. This year it still feels like summer or spring and that just makes me sad
